I'm fairly sure Maria's second post had the mother's name correct as Anna
do Rosario (not Anna Rosa). What I interpret from this record is as
follows:

Jose born 6 March 1877 and baptized on 16 March 1877 at NS de Purificacao,
Santo Espirito

Mother: Anna do Rosario who is the widow of Antonio Francisco

Father: Bartholomeu de Andrade, son of Domingos de Melo and his wife
Antonia ?Pereira? (not sure) naturals of this parish

Maternal grandparents: MIguel Fernandes and his wife Maria de ?Morena? (not
sure), both naturals of this parish.

Godparents: Jose Francisco do Rego and Antonia Jacinta do Rego, children of
Bernardo Jose do Rego

Once upon a time, Jose was born to Ana Rosa. Ana Rosa was married to
Antonio Francisco, but he died (apparently 7 years prior). Now, Ana Rosa
has found happiness again with her fiance, Bartolomeu de Andrade son

Yeah, what Margaret wrote makes sense. Maybe Ana Rosa and Bart were waiting
on a dispensation. Was one mentioned in their marriage?

Hi,

It is not exactly that way. It reads:

Jose, son of Ana Rosa, widow of Antonio Francisco, and of her (esposo)
fiance Bartolomeu de Andrade, son of ...

The child is that of the widow (Ana Rosa) and her boyfriend Bartolomeu.

Nothing to do with the first husband. It uses his name as a identifier
only.

I've not seen a record like this either but I figured she was expecting when
Antonio died.. since baby was born in march and she married in November, I
assume baby is antonio's. And that's why the priest brought his name into the
record and that she was widowed.

I believe it is saying that Bartholomeu is the father of the baby. This
looks like it says he is her "esposo" which I thought meant "husband" the
same as "marido", but they didn't marry until 5 months later (according to
your post) so maybe esposo does not necessarily mean husband.

If she were expecting when Antonio Francisco died I think it would say:
"Jose, filho de Antonio Francisco, ja defuncto, e de sua mulher Anna do
Rosario".

I could be wrong. I've never seen a record quite like this before.

Yes, what Rosemarie says is so true! It appears that often the books were

[AZORES-Genealogy] Help with first 3 lines? Totally confused!

2016-10-09 Thread Maria Lima
TOP LEFT

I'm seeing:

Jose, filho de Anna de Rosa ... weird couple of letters...de Antonio Francisco
and his exposto (???), Bartholomeu de Andrade, son of Domingos de Mello,
deceased, and his wife Antonia Pereira
.. I got the rest but confused in the relationships. I have the baptism of
Bartholomeu who's father was Domingos de Mello and he wasn't an exposto. So I
can't imagine what this says. HELP??!!

Thanks

Thanks, Cheri. I was just using Google Translate last night and realized
that there is a 'speaker' feature! When you turn it on and click on the
speaker you will hear the words in Portuguese that you've just had
translated! I wanted to know how to pronounce the surname Carregueiro and
it was great! Now if I can just remember how to say the name, LOL!!

Don't forget that if there are more than one book for a Councelho to check
out the oldest book. Often the men who joined were single when they joined.
They gave their Mother as beneficiary and then when they married they
changed it to their wife's name. Often the older book has the name and the
place in the Islands where Mother lived!!

copying the UPEC membership records that have been filmed by the Family History

Hi Kathy and Susan,

What a treasure to have at our finger tips!!!

Kathy, you were kind enough to look up my great uncle's info years ago. That
opened a few doors. Thanks again for your help.

For some time, I have been looking for more info on my paternal great uncles.
I will need to do a bit more investigating, but I think I discovered my 2nd
great grandmother's name, as well as my great uncle's wife, in the Pleasanton
records. I am so excited. More paths to follow!

Thanks for your time and efforts on everyone's behalf.
