Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Looking for documentation of g.grandfather Antonio Goncalves Born 1877

2018-03-21 Thread luiznoia .
He is Antonio Souza Gonsalves. There is an UPEC death record for him dated
17 Mar 1936 at Ancestry.

Member 176 of Conselho # 56 East Oakland , joined 30 Jul 1913. Wife is Anna
Souza Gonsalves

He does not appear in the UPEC register for #56 at AzoresGenWeb. It ends
with 1911.

In the 1910 census Antone and Anna are living in Sparks, Washoe, Nevada
with daughter Evalina. He says he naturalized in 1900.

The 1920 cenus shows Antone and Annie living at 1175 63rd St, Oakland . Two
daughters born in Nevada, Evelena and Margarite

Antone arrived in 1886 and naturalized in 1902. Annie arrived 1906, and
naturalized 1906, so that would be the year they married likely.

Here is a news article that names Antonio as a cousin from 18 Mar 1935
Oakland Tribune . The address is same as census of 1920. 1175 63rd St

They had 2 daughters: Margaret (my grandmother) and Evlin/Evelyn(?). I
believe that at least one daughter was born in Nevada.

I think the SPRSI merged with Luso. I don't know about their "privacy" issues.
Most of my knowledge is from UPPEC, Hayward council #15, that merged with
PFSA. They don't give out any information as far as I know about any of their
members alive or dead.

They married in the US. My Dad is the historian, this is my Mom's side.
I'm looking for birth records.

Since you are searching for you mom's citizenship, I suggest you do an
Internet search for genealogy services and hire a company to do the
research for you. Good luck, Cheri

2018-03-21 Thread Cheri Mello
Sarah S,
I thought this was your mom's side???

I searched the entire Flores marriage book (it's basically an index of the
records that are online at the CCA) and there is no Antonio Gonçalves who
married Anna anywhere on the island. There is no Antonio Gonçalves getting
married in any parish on the island of Flores.

You'll need to do more U.S. research. If you are SURE he's from Flores,
then he's dropped a name and you'll need to find out what that name is.

Ola group,
Here's what I learned from my Dad:
"Antonio Goncalves b. Jan 8, 1877, Flores, m. Anna Diogo b. June 18, 1877,
Flores. Came to the US around 1902. Eventually moving to Carson City area
of Nevada where two children were born. Moved to Oakland abt. 1920. Antonio
died 1936, Anna in 1938. Both buried in Contra Costa County, CA."
I'm searching for the birth certificate/record of Antonio Goncalves to help
my Mom apply for Portuguese citizenship.
Again, thanks for your help!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Pico History and Portuguese Customs 1825

2018-03-21 Thread Anna
I am interested in this, too. Would like to know more about life in the
Azores around 1880, 1890.

My great-grandmother was from Flores but she was sent to another island for
school, around 1890 (probably Faial). I don't think they had separate
schools then, I think they would have gone to a convent for eduction. Would
love to know more about this if anyone has more info/recommendations!
