I have no clue as the 2nd name of the wife. The writing is a cross between
print and cursive and rather "bubbly." Makes it hard to read, especially when
squished.

I see the marriage date of 10 Nov 1923. I think he died 28 Jan 1979. Compare
that 1 (looks like a cursive lower case "L") with some of the other 1s in that
column. The 1s are written 2 different ways. Also the 9s. Some of the 9s are
closed loop and some are not.

I think the 3rd note says he married under the name of Domingos Pimentel, but
you probably got that part.

Hopefully someone else can get the bride's 2nd name.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Baptism translations

2019-01-08 Thread Cheri Mello
Mike B,

Women are more likely than men to change their religious middle name. They
marry under one (that perhaps they have had since confirmation) and after
going through their first pregnancy, they become devoted the Virgin Mary of
the Conception (Conceição) and begin using that. Also, the women were not
present at the baptism. They were typically home on bed rest, as was
customary for the day. The father and the godparents went to baptize the
baby. So when they ask for the mother's name, they know her as Delphina,
but take a guess as to the religious component. As you collect all the kids
of the couple, you'll start to realize that they are guessing at mom's
middle name. I poke fun at it saying "Too much vinho."

The marriage you attached is in the 2nd time period. These records don't
include the detailed information of the 3rd time period (once in a while,
you will find the detailed one, but that is not the norm. And this marriage
is normal for the time period). So no ages for the bride and groom.

If you have collected all the kids for this couple and you know where your
ancestor fits in the family, then you can take the birth of kid 1 (pretend
it was Jan. 1, 1818) and subtract 18 years and start looking for their
births in 1800 on back. The bride could have been 25 and the groom could
have been 30. You just don't know. You just go back in time. It's how we
all did it. I don't know if that freguesia has any indices. I believe I
posted the link to Tombo.pt for you to check in another email.

Here's what to expect for the 3 time periods. I arranged it by event
(baptism, marriage, death). You can copy and paste it into a Word type
editor and arrange it by time period if you prefer. Then you can print it
out and have it handy until you get used to them: https://goo.gl/ie5McX

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] The elusive, "Maria Cristo"

2019-01-08 Thread 'celeste perry' via Azores Genealogy
They were married in Bristol, R.I. on Nov. 24, 1907 at St. Mary's Church. I
saw the church record of the marriage when I visited St. Mary's this summer.
There was written in the entry (and the other entries of that page) that said,
"Copy sent." I asked what that meant and the person to whom I spoke did not
know. I thought maybe it was a copy of the marriage that had been sent to the
Diocese or back to the Azores.
I went to the diocese office and was told there were no records there of this
type.

I do have a marriage certificate signed by Asst. Pastor, Clyde J. Walsh on
March 3, 1953, (when I began the search of the marriage.)

Maria Cristo and her husband, Filippe P. Da Silva (aka, Philip Perreira Da
Silva or Felipe Pereira da Silva; Felippe Silva and/or Philip Perry) lived with
Maria Cristo's brother, Seraphine Morais (Morris), at 15 Estabrook St. Bristol,
R.I. in the 1910 census they were still at 15 Estabrook St., Bristol, RI. and
Maria Cristo's mother, Jacintha Libiana, lived there too.

In the 1920 census, they lived at the same address with Jose Perry.

In the 1930 census, they lived at 66 Blossom St., E. Providence, R.I.

Thank you for any help you can give me in finding "The elusive Maria Cristo's
birth record.

E,
I thought that might be it; however, all of the records had the same writing on
them. Since my husband is the oldest grandson of this marriage, we do not have
any of her "papers." The rest of the family does not seem to be at all
interested in documenting her birth place.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] The elusive, "Maria Cristo"

2019-01-08 Thread EMIL SILVEIRA
Hi Celeste,
Please Ask my cousin Bob to please get "Er Done!" DNA that is of course. I
have mine done up to Big Y. He should be interested to see how we compare. Dot
also had her's done. And I had her brother's done to Big Y also.
Dot and I now live in Peoria, Arizona, moved here 6 months ago. I have
been working on Bob and my cousins who descend from those in your file. I was
surprised to find the Cruz family who also lived in Arizona and have made some
additions on them in my file now.

  Regards and Love to all.

2019-01-08 Thread Cheri Mello
Felipe SR,

That's it. No more records exist. You have hit your "End of Line" ancestor
and have exhausted the records. You can search other sources like Saudades
da Terra to see if he was mentioned. If not, that line is done.

Hope you are that successful on your other lines!

2019-01-08 Thread Margaret Vicente
Felipe,

You may wish to try the Parish of Nossa Senhora da Estrela in Ribeira Grande.
Estrela was the mother church for the Ribeira Grande Region.

Good luck.

Sorry, Cheri. I have been trying to find Maria Cristo's immigration record.
Seems I have put it "in a safe place" and can't find it right now. I will
continue to look through my files for it.

4/15/2015:  I have searched through all the baptismal

addition, I have searched through all the records of
 the

"Maria" whose grandparents were the same as
 Maria

 searches.

As of this date, I continue to follow any leads I find
 that

 she

1/12/2017:  Wrote to St. Mary's Church in Bristol,

 gave

[AZORES-Genealogy] The elusive Maria Cristo

2019-01-08 Thread 'celeste perry' via Azores Genealogy
I can't seem to find the immigration document I copied for her from
Ancestry.com. I no longer subscribe to Ancestry. I have her listed as
arriving in Boston, July 31, 1909; she is listed as Maria Moraes and 25 years
old, and the ship was Crotic.
