[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Ossuary

2020-01-16 Thread 'Monica C' via Azores Genealogy
Many have been exhumed without the family present; my dad for example. It
may have been a rule or more likely that the family are still there that
would be notified of the pending exhumation. Attendance may be mandatory in
that instance. However, I know my father's family is still there and there
was no family present Not even sure if they knew what was going on at that
time.

It's one thing to experience a burial. I can't imagine experiencing an
exhumation. Extremely heartbreaking.

Yes Cheri it is.

Looking at yours, mine is much bigger. I believe that if a family member of
my father wants to be in there, they can share the space with my dad.
Perhaps that's why they make it a bit bigger.

Thanks for sharing.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Ossuary

2020-01-16 Thread 'Monica C' via Azores Genealogy
Hello,

I've recently had to deal with my father's bones being placed in an ossuary.

My father passed away in 1987 and the cemetery had placed him on the list
to exhume back in 2017. Instead of his bones to be placed in a mass grave
of bones, I had the option to have him placed in a n ossuary in the same
cemetery. There was a fee.

I have provided a link to the image from facebook when it was being blessed
by the parish priest. Just copy and paste it in your browser.

DBM,

I have mapped out the Paiva's in capelas as far as the records go up to. We
are probably a match as well.

To confirm a paper trail, you will need to locate information/dates before
1911. Is that an issue for you?

Hope to hear from you.

that line. The family was very kind to my family in the past. Mom my told

She was a Cabral Rego. I will have to confirm with my mom though. just in
case.

[AZORES-Genealogy] conflicting baptismal records

2016-12-15 Thread 'Monica C' via Azores Genealogy
Hello Group!

I have an interesting situation.

I found my great grandfathers baptismal record – so excited!

I expanded my search to siblings…I found 3 others. Two other boys and 1
girl –super excited!

Excitement quickly turned to confusion…

My great grandfather is Jose.

His father is Joao.

Jose’s grandparents (Joao parents) on his baptismal record is listed as
“avos incognito”.

On all the other siblings for Jose, the grandparents names are listed.

Jose is the youngest.

Would anyone know why his record would not have his paternal grandparents
names but all of his siblings did?

Thanks
Monica

Alexandre's daughter Maria, had my grandfather, Manuel. (Pai incognito) he took
his grand mother's maiden name, Revoredo. These records are my family.

Took a long time to find this out, but I did. Thanks to this thread, other
questions I had have been answered.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Parents unknown

2016-07-15 Thread 'Monica C' via Azores Genealogy
Hello everyone.

I was wondering how a child was given a Last name if their parents are unknown?
I have finally found my gg grandfather and more digging resulted in his grand
father having unknown parents. My gg grandfather was in ultimately given my ggg
grandmothers maiden name.

Are there any orphanage records online? Would the birth/baptism records note
such status?

Your help is always appreciated.

Cheri, both are deceased. Antonio Paiva died in 1977 and Agueda died in 2008.
If they were alive, I wouldn't be having this conversation.

It's not a matter of finding the records. It's knowing if it is the right
person to continue.

My mom remembered a very specific clue that allowed me to trace my maternal GG
grandmother's line. There are no helpful clues for the men in her family
(father and grand father).

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo

2015-12-06 Thread 'Monica C' via Azores Genealogy
Cheri...I'm such an idiot! Lol

My maternal grandmother (Agueda Revoredo) was born in 1932. So far, I traced
her mother's side up to 1832...easy peasy. She was a Maria Jorge (or Gorge) and
Fonseca. My great grand father, is the elusive Manuel de Luz Revoredo. Without
his parents names, I'm at a stand still. He has always been in Capelas.

My maternal grandfather (Antonio Paiva) was born in 1929. We have his parents
names but since I don't have their ( my GG gp) parents names, I'm at another
stand still as there is no resource that I have to confirm/deny relations. I
indexed what I could find of them just in case though. Apparently they are from
Sete Cidades/Ginetes.

I was thinking of getting Agueda's marriage certificate but no one knows that
day they got married. I can only guess that it was in 1951/52 since my mom was
born in 53. My mom said that they weren't married long before they had her,

Would the church in Capelas, Nossa apressasao ( bad spelling) research with
the "around" date? I would get her birth certificate but it won't answer my
grand fathers side.

Hello Cheri, I should better explain. She knows her grand parents, it's her GG
grandparents so her baptism record won't do me much.

My uncle is still there. Maybe my mom can ask him to pop over to the church for
my grand mothers baptismal record or her marriage certificate. I would be
hoping to see the full names, if they are in the same format I have been
researching. She was married about 1951 or 2. My mom was born shortly after.
Thanks for all your guidance.

Hello Nelia,

Have you started your tree? We lived on grotto do morro. My mom doesn't know
who her paternal grand parents were. They didn't talk about those things. To
make matters worse, she had cousins on the street as well so the records that I
have found could be theirs. I've indexed them to see if there are any clues.
That is what I'm struggling with now.

The Montreal Gazette has their newspaper on line free of charge. It would take
a while but you can search for a possible article that may have mentioned this
tragedy. I would also suggest that you find exactly when he died so that you
can focus on that time period when researching.

Good luck to you!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo and Paiva in capelas

2015-09-01 Thread 'Monica C' via Azores Genealogy
They are all from the island of San Miguel. The males that I note (Manuel de
Luz Revoredo and Jose Paiva), were from Capelas according to my mom. I have
checked the records of that parish, Nossa Senhora da Apresentação, which is the
one I was baptised in as well. In fact, I have checked all the baptismal
records for all of the Ponta Delgada area for these men. The only record I was
able to find was Manuel's wife, Maria Jorge in Candelaria.

I hope that is clearer. It was my first post and I wasn't sure of the proper
protocol.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Revoredo and Paiva in capelas

2015-09-01 Thread 'Monica C' via Azores Genealogy
I've be scouring the parish records for my great grand parents. I have only
been able to find the birth record for my great grandmother in candelaria.
Her name was Maria Jorge born 1904. She married Manuel Revoredo who was about
two years older than his wife. I can't find his record anywhere.

There is also my great grandfather Jose Paiva, who married Maria do carmo
Pereira. They had many children, one of them being Antonio Paiva (b 1926) (my
grand father), who had tragically died in Toronto. Articles and a book was
dedicated to my grandmother after this event. Her name was Agueda Revoredo.

Finding records for my father's side has been very difficult. It was suggested
that my father, Eduardo desousa, was not the son of the person whom I have
always considered to be my grand father as the wedding of his "parents" was
after he was born. Also, on my fathers birth certificate, it notes that his
birth was registered in 1976, a year before we came to Canada. This is very odd
to me as he was born in 1944. He also took his mother's name and not his
father's. (All children born after took the father's name) Their names are Jose
Rego and her name was Olivia camara de sousa. I know nothing besides that.

If anyone has any information, that would be great. Every time another page
loads, I tell myself that this will be the page...

Thanks
Monica :)
