[AZORES-Genealogy] religious items
Aloha Mike, I'm not sure if there are any specific traditions. Both sides of my family were from the Azores and now I have two rosary beads from each side. My paternal grandmother told me that she was leaving her rosary in my care. It was handed down to the first born girl in the family and since my father didn't have any sisters, I was fortunate enough to receive them after my grandmother passed. It has been handed down for at least five generations from the stories I've been told. It's nice to know I hold a part of each of them. So I'll hand them down to my daughter, someday. [AZORES-Genealogy] de Barros from Santa Maria to Hawaii Silva from Pico to Boston
Hi, I'm looking for help regarding another family member Marie de Barros who came to Hawaii and then moved to the USA mainland. She was born abt 1872 in Villa do Porto, Santa Maria. That info was given by a cousin, who was not really sure. Marie de Barros married Joseph Peter Silva in 1887, she was age 13 or 14 at the time. We assume they were married in Washington State since Peter Silva was living in the area and they later had 5 children that were born in Washington. The only information I have for Joseph Peter Silva who was just known as Peter, he was born Nov. 15, 1863 in Pico (here say). He moved with his brother Manuel to Boston then moved to Washington State. He later moved to Hawaii with Marie and their 5 children. They later had 4 more children. I've heard that they had 2 other children that died at a young age but we have no record of them. Would you be able to tell me where I should start looking? I've been searching for a couple of weeks but I haven't been able to find anything solid to follow and I'm still new this. They sent me pdf's of the correct documents in a week or so. I think they have a Francisco Barrela document where your Manuel should be. What I mean is the link reads Manuel Teixeira, but the document is not his. Research it a bit more and see what you can come up with. These are nice documents to add to your family collection...and they may give you additional clues. When I initially located one of my ancestors from the Ponta Delgada passport registration list, is listed her as being from Ribeira Grande. So, I thought I would either have to wait for the CCA to post RG records or order the microfilm from LDS, Then one day someone posted a link to the emigration records. I found my ancestor's document; and it listed her as living in Rabo de Peixe but a native of Achada Grande. From that information I've worked back as far as I can go with her direct lineage. One more link for you: this is actually from the CCA website, it's information that's found on the passport registration. It's easier if you search through the advance search tab.
