Good morning all. I am hoping someone here will be able to answer this
question for me, as it is pertains to 4 of my 9 living children.

What Percentage of people of Portuguese ethnicity is RH -? I have just
found out, due to the pregnancy of my daughter that she is RH- and due to
her father's ethnicity, is very doubtful that negative factor came from his
 genetics.

While I am on the subject, I suppose I ought to explain a little more. I
have 9 living children, 7 girls, 2 boys. I have been married twice, and from
the first union, I had 2 girls, one of which is o- rh factor; I lived with a
man and had one female child with him, whom is also rh - (a-), and then
married my current husband and we had 6 more children, 2 of which (girls)
are also rh-( one is* O-* one is *A-)**. *
My mother is Swedish, scottish, indian and my father is full blooded
 portuguese.
my mother blood type is *O +* , my fathers blood type is *A+, *and mine is
 *A+.*

from the research I have done,it is extremely rare for native american,
black, and scottish peoples to carry the rh negative factor, but a race of
people called BASQUES have a very high rate of rh negative blood. Is the
Portuguese race considered Basque? and What is the ratio of negative blood
 type in the Portuguese Race?
Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] [AZORES-Genealogy Dna Question

2010-03-17 Thread Jacki G
Type O and type A are the most prevalent blood types in all countries. It is
the same for Azoreans. In fact someone with type O- is considered to be a
universal donor with only a few rare exceptions. O+ can be given to people
with A+, B+, AB+ and O+, but O- can be given to the other blood types + or -
without causing problems. While everyone who is able, should donate blood,
people with an O or rare blood type are especially needed as blood donors.

As for the RH factor (the + or -); Everyone has two genes that determine
your RH. One from each parent. Positive is the dominant gene. If one or
both of a person's genes are positive they are positive. Which is why more
people are positive. Both genes have to be negative for you to have a
negative RH.

Nancy, your family is a perfect example. Your father had to have had one
positive gene and one negative gene and your mother has two negative genes.
That one positive gene being dominant was passed on to 4 of his 6 children
while only 2 managed to get a double negative from him.

While I think that we a special in so many ways...;) I don't think that we
Azoreans are any more likely to have rare blood types or a certain RH factor
than any other race. Statistically, we have basically the same ratios as
everyone else. For myself, I am very glad to have the most common blood
type on the planet (O+). In case I ever need it, it won't be hard to find.

My mother is Swedish, scottish, indian and my father is full blooded
portuguese.
my mother blood type is O + , my fathers blood type is A+, and mine is A+.

from the research I have done,it is extremely rare for native american,
black, and scottish peoples to carry the rh negative factor, but a race of
people called BASQUES have a very high rate of rh negative blood. Is the
Portuguese race considered Basque? and What is the ratio of negative blood
type in the Portuguese Race?
Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

Sorry, my aunt and uncle were both RH- and when they had six children back
in the 50's and 60's I remember my mother telling me they all had to have
blood transfusions because of it. They were called blue babies? I think
that's how it went.

Good morning all. I am hoping someone here will be able to answer this
question for me, as it is pertains to 4 of my 9 living children.

What Percentage of people of Portuguese ethnicity is RH -? I have just found
out, due to the pregnancy of my daughter that she is RH- and due to her
father's ethnicity, is very doubtful that negative factor came from his

The Basques are from the region bordering France Span and Portugal. So
having Basque in your DNA is possible. I would think there are studies
that have been done which shows blood types and what determines the type
we are.

However, my mom was Italian with a drop of English, Scottish, and Irish for

2010-03-15 Thread Gayle Machado
To all,

The chart that Jackie found seems to confirm what the doctor once told me
about Americans, that the Rh Neg factor shows up in about 15 % of the
population. I¹m curious as to the figures for Portugal as to whether it is
restricted to the mainland or includes all the islands (Azores, Madeira,
etc.) It also seems to be about 15 % ± Margin of Error.
