RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Unknown location in Sao Miguel
Cheri, She was born 1/25/1859 in the Azores and died 5/3/1938 in San Jose, CA. I don't know if she ever became a citizen or not or whether or not she had any siblings. The person giving the information was my grandmother's sister who was raised by her from about the age of 4. I have very little information on this branch. Her son (my g grandfather) was killed in 1909 in Oakland, CA when my grandmother was 2. When he was killed my g grandmother gave my great aunt (age 4) to her to raise and kept my grandmother. She soon remarried and there was little contact after that. The only info I was ever told by my grandmother was that her father was born on Sao Miguel and his name. She didn't even know her grandmother's first name. You're going to have to find more records on this ancestor. What year did she die? Was she a citizen of the US? RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Unknown location in Sao Miguel
Margaret, That does have some familiarity. Her husband was born in Faja de Cima. He arrived in the US via Hawaii in 1882 when he was 7. It's always possible that their families were friends. I don't know when she came to the US yet. This might be a clue as to where to look for that JC _ From: azores@googlegroups.com [mailto:azo...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Margaret Vicente Sent: Wednesday, December 23, 2009 11.38 AM To: azores@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Unknown location in Sao Miguel Hi JC There is a place in Sao Miguel called Fajã it sounds just like the written word you show "Feigao".
