Thank you all for your kind words, and offers, I'm re entering some of the
data that I lost, I appreciate you all with your kind words and generosity
of wanting to share, I realy apreciate in having you as friends

Again i don't have words to explain how I feel from the responses I
received here on the list as well as private e-mails.

George,

There is a place in New Bedford that can help you. My old computer crashed
a few months ago and I kept on getting the blue screen of death. I took it
to this place on Allen st and the guys there were able to recover 8 years
worth of pictures, music and files for me!

Did you have your backups on an external drive? Some backup programs hide
the files. Look at the properties by right clicking on the folder to see if
you can unhide the information in the folder. David

I  cried for 4 hours solid when this happened to me a few years back.  I now 
run 2 backups and have the info on both my laptop and my mini.  My son was able 
to restore abt. 90% of my data.  Guess he couldn't stand to see his mom cry 
anymore.

what little I have I can share with you - just let me know.  And don't give up 
trying to recover the data.  Rolling back the computer to an earlier time is a 
great idea if your hard drive is still spinning.  Also, for the future, check 
into a program called SPIN RITE.  It has already saved my Windows side once and 
I recommend it highly!

There is a place in NYC - TekServe that was able to recover lost
information for one of my students when his computer crashed.  There must
be someplace similar in the Providence or Boston area.

George, I should be a tiny bit more specific. You should reset to a month or a 
couple of weeks previous. It should take a little while, but it should reset 
your system back to the date you specified. Anything between the time of the 
date specified and your crash will be lost, but it's not as great a loss as all 
your programs and info.

George, a while ago I had a crash and had a similar problem.

I had to restart my computer in safe mode. Go to accessories. System tools. 
System restore. Restore my computer to an earlier time. Click next. Select a 
date as far back as you can.

I would recommend for you not to give up and to try and find a good
computer "geek" in your area that may be able to recover all your lost data
from the hard drive.  It's a matter of know how and the right tools.

Thanks for the warning George! I am so sorry for all you lost! What a  
nightmare. I am updating my Gedcom file now to my flash drive. I try to keep it 
 
updated just in case of a computer crash or some problem. This is a good 
time to  do it. I am always afraid of something happening to my laptop that 
has all of my  genealogy on it.
