This method will work, I have done basically the same thing before
with good results.

Is the backup RAID array at least the same size as the original? Your
best bet is probably to use tar + gzip to send the whole raw partition
over the network to the remote machine, but for this to work, you will
need to be able to unmount the primary so that it doesn't change
during the backup (which will take a while over a 10Mbps link).

CVS is broken, and the language files are not in sync.
By Sunday night I expect to check in changes to make
it work.

Do you have any large files, in particular bigger than 8GB?

[BackupPC-users] Strange files in Windows 2003 backup - more

2006-01-28 Thread Tomas Florian
Actually it's even worse than I thought ... I am actually missing a few
folders in some backup sets.
Also, another thing that's different is that I'm running backupPC in
VMWare 5

[BackupPC-users] Unable to run makeDist

2006-01-28 Thread Raf

Kind list's Members

Since I'm very interested in trying the new editConfig.pm
module, I've just downloaded BackupPc from CVS.
I'm not a software developer, so this may be
trivial, but I can't run makeDist. I've read the CVS_README
but now hints to resolve the problem.

I report the complete output error at the end of
the message.

Thank you all

Regards

Raf

[BackupPC-users] Strange files in Windows 2003 backup

2006-01-28 Thread Tomas Florian

Hello,

I'm backing up a Windows 2003 server using SMB ... everything works
great except that I see some weird files or folders in my backups:

for example:

OTElOSUVOQdIT0xESU5HQNIT1JB0hPUi1HRU5B0hPUi1NRVREUhPUklaT05UQUwtQUNIU0VOQhIT
1JNSUdPTkESE9VUkLSE9VU0VMQVlPVVRAkhQQJIUkCSFNAkhUQNIVENBEhUQ0hBEhUVTFA0hUV0

or
0JQ09NUEFRX1Rf
QlDT01QQVFfVV9CUNPTVBBUV9YX0LQ09NUEFSQVRJVkFDUNPTVBMRVRBTUVOVE9B0NPTVBSQVNB0
NPTVBVVElCkNPTVVfVEVSUkFBkNPTVVORUDQ09OQVDT04tMUIQ09OX0xBX0JC

I have about 20 of these sitting there. And quite understandably they
also show up in my error log.
I'm guessing these are left over from some shadow copy ... or something
like that. I know BackupPC doesn't use shadow copy at all.. But I do
use NTBackup on daily basis (as a secondary)

Any ideas what this stuff is? ... Of course when I browse the server
using explorer these things are not there ...

Thanks for any ideas,
Tomas
