Thank you for your quick reply. I know and I use include/exclude (only exclude really) directories. What I want to achieve is not changing the regular backup, which is the whole machine, but only archiving part of it. In other words, backup the whole machine but only archive two directories. Hi List As stated in the README.Debian, I tried to move my DATADIR to a remote location : A Windows machine wich sees its content backed up daily by corporate backup system. I created a backuppc folder on the samba share and made a symbolic link in /var/lib to that folder. [BackupPC-users] cross backups (gentoo - WinXP)
Greetings, I am a newbie in BackupPC but so far so good - everything works fine. I backup a laptop (WinXP) on a desktop (gentoo). I now would like to try doing cross backups and am looking for some guidance to avoid reinventing the wheel. My goal is to back up on my laptop some parts of the desktop when the laptop is available on the network (say, /etc to be backed up in C:\SERVER_BACKUP\etc). In other words, the backup store for desktop (which also hosts BackupPC) should be on the WinXP laptop. Is there a straightforward way to achieve this? I would be grateful for any pointers. Note that the defaults aren't bad for most people if most of the machines you back up are on all the time so backups can run at night. If they aren't you may want to encourage people to use the web interface to start their own backups at a convenient time and end the blackout early enough to catch everyone who doesn't. -- Les Mikesell [EMAIL PROTECTED] - This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
