[Bacula-users] zlib problem when restoring files
Dear all, I am using bacula to backup several of our machines and I have run into a problem restoring one machine. All files are restored, but for some of them I get something like this in messages: 01-Aug 15:31 fretka-fd: MilaRestoreFiles.2006-08-01_15.31.09 Error: Uncompression error on file /home/restore/home/nicmila/.thunderbird/fpjdjhkm.default/Mail/LocalFolders/Sent.msf. ERR=Zlib buffer error and the resulting files have zero length. This machine is a pretty new AMD64. When I have tried to restore to an older pentium4 machine, everything went ok. Both of them are running Gentoo Linux in similar configuration. Therefor I suspect the problem is in the 64bit machine. However trying to find any information on problems with zlib on AMD64 was not successful. I have tried to recompile both zlib and bacula, even with optimization turned off, but the errors remain. I would be glad for any suggestions how to fix this problem. Best regards Beda - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Re: [Bacula-users] Error configuring bacula
Thanks. It was a dumb error on my part as I like to keep an autoconfigure file (bacula.config) that is executable and holds all the environment flags as well as the ./configure command with appropriate switches. Apparently, if you don't put a space before the '\', the next line becomes part of the current line's parameter. This caused --with-mysql to be ignored completely. Re: [Bacula-users] Error e-mails caused by Nagios monitoring
hello, I wrote something up about monitoring with Nagios, I prefer monitoring each server being backed up for backup status, this means that even if I accidently delete/disable a host from bacula configs I'd still pick it up with my nagios: http://www.devco.net/pubwiki/Bacula/MonitoringWithNagios You can also create a hourly job that does a watchdog type thing for your nagios: http://www.bacula.org/rel-manual/Tips_Suggestions.html#SECTION000355000 That way you can be sure your backups are working end to end without connecting to the daemon ports and confusing them. [Bacula-users] rpm wizard script
Hello all, I read an article this week about using gnome's zenity utility to display gui dialogs and input information into shell scripts. I did some fooling around today and the result has been placed in cvs as platforms/contrib-rpm/rpm_wizard.sh. This handy little script will query your build parameters through a series of dialogs and then rebuild a bacula source rpm package. Regards, Scott - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. [Bacula-users] Recovering data without a .bsr or db entries (feel free to start laughing now)
Hey peeps, So, because I cocked up my config and didn't notice, Bacula purged a job pretty much right after finishing it, mea culpa. This wouldn't be a major problem if it wasn't for the fact that the job in question was the contents of "Documents and Settings" on my workstation, because I was doing a re-install...and I noticed afterwards (yeah, mea culpa again). I've removed the two tapes it used from the library, so it can't physicaly lose the data. I'm wondering if I have anyway of getting the data back off the tapes. I also took a copy of the pgsql data directory as soon as a I realised; I've taken at look at the page files and it seems like the data may still be there (pgsql hadn't vacuumed yet). Anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed? Or am I just going to have to chalk this up as one of those lessons that mean you don't do it again. In many ways I'm just glad I am super paranoid and copied the contents of my development trees to another system as well. -- Chris Crowther Developer J&M Crowther Ltd. - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Re: [Bacula-users] Restore error
It looks like you're trying to restore files backed up from a Windows client to the same Windows client. But you'll need to modify the Where parameter, because it points to a directory that doesn't exist at the client side. Create a C:\tmp folder and tell Bacula to restore files to C:/tmp and all should be fine. I've run into this issue myself. This is possible and worth checking (i.e. > was anything pruned while the job ran?) but if you previously had database > problems, it is not very likely to be the cause. I discovered this a couple of minutes before getting your reply. You're right, the job was pruned during the backup! Here's the complete output: 29-Jul 19:00 bacula-dir: Start Backup JobId 108, Job=Bang.2006-07-29_19.00.00 29-Jul 19:00 bacula-sd: Job Bang.2006-07-29_19.00.00 waiting to reserve a device. Something was wrong when the job started on Saturday evening, I can't remember exactly what I did to fix it yesterday, but I think I issued the mount/umount command. Thus the backup started 1.5 days later as expected... That was the reason for the pruning. Last week I changed the 'Volume Retention Period' for the tapes to 2 days. Because of the crash, I had to start the weekly backup on Thursday and the next full backup was scheduled for Saturday (I keep the full backups only one week at the moment, not the best way but I cant' change it) 31-Jul 09:43 bacula-sd: 3301 Issuing autochanger "loaded drive 0" command. 31-Jul 09:43 bacula-sd: 3302 Autochanger "loaded drive 0", result: nothing loaded. 31-Jul 09:43 bacula-sd: 3304 Issuing autochanger "load slot 3, drive 0" command. 31-Jul 09:43 bacula-sd: 3305 Autochanger "load slot 3, drive 0", status is OK. 31-Jul 09:43 bacula-sd: 3301 Issuing autochanger "loaded drive 0" command. 31-Jul 09:43 bacula-sd: 3302 Autochanger "loaded drive 0", result is Slot 3. 31-Jul 09:44 bacula-sd: Recycled volume "Bang3" on device "AIT-2" (/dev/nst0), all previous data lost. 31-Jul 09:44 bacula-sd: Spooling data ... bang-fd: Filesystem change prohibited. Normally, there should be additional output with the first error that was printed (affected_rows = 0). I have seen this kind of problem when a job is pruned while the job is running. The job starts, creates a job database record, it is pruned, the job terminates, and the job record no longer exist, hence the job fails as in the second error message above. This is possible and worth checking (i.e. was anything pruned while the job ran?) but if you previously had database problems, it is not very likely to be the cause. > > * status dir > [snip] > Terminated Jobs: > JobId Level Files Bytes Status FinishedName > > [snip] > 108 Full755,497 226,024,976,679 Error 01-Aug-06 03:55 Bang > 110 Full350,469 62,591,189,371 OK 01-Aug-06 08:55 SMTCZB0003 > 109 Full 1348,330,920 OK 01-Aug-06 09:03 BackupCatalog > 111 Full 1348,330,998 OK 01-Aug-06 09:12 BackupCatalog > > > * list jobs > [snip] > +-+--+-+--+--+--+--+--+ > |jobid| name |starttime| type | level| jobfiles | jobbytes |jobstatus | > +-+--+-+--+--+--+--+--+ > [snip] > | 105 |SMTCZB0003|2006-07-24 14:51:55|B|F|349,640|62,232,279,458|T| > | 110 |SMTCZB0003|2006-08-01 03:55:33|B|F|350,469|62,591,189,371|T| > | 109 |BackupCatalog|2006-08-01 08:55:07|B|F|1|348,330,920|T| > | 111 |BackupCatalog|2006-08-01 09:03:35|B|F|1|348,330,998|T| > > > I have no idea what happend to job 108.
