[Bacula-users] AutomaticMount doesn't work on a simple LTO3 drive

2009-10-20 Thread Adam Cécile
Hello,

It seems SD behavior changed between 2.X and 3.X.

Here is what I do:
1. Unload tape from the drive
1. Run a job
2. Wait for Bacula to send a mail asking for a tape
3. Load a tape in a drive
4. Wait, and see that bacula never found the tape
5. Type mount; it works

st st:
Device status:
Device LTO3 (/dev/nst0) is not open.
Device is BLOCKED waiting for mount of volume Weekly-004,
   Pool:Weekly
   Media type:  LTO-3

st dir:
71 Fullbackup.2009-10-20_14.33.22_09 is waiting for a mount request

bacula-sd.conf:
Device {
  Name = LTO3
  Media Type = LTO-3
  Archive Device = /dev/nst0
  AutomaticMount = yes
  AlwaysOpen = no
  RemovableMedia = yes
  RandomAccess = no
  Maximum File Size = 4GB
}

Could you help me to figure out what's wrong ? Thanks in advance.

Regards, Adam.

Hello,

I juste replaced an autochanger and the new one adds L3 at the end of

 Check if the files for which the ACL errors are reported are
 dangling symbolic links, that is, a symbolic link where the file
 linked to no longer exists.

No, they are real files, not symlinks.
 We have some Solaris machines which contain a number of dangling
 symlinks, and they result in errors similar to those you report
 (though from the path names, I'd guess your system is running
 MacOS X). I speculate that Bacula's file daemon tries to read the
 ACL information from the linked-to file, then logs an error when
 that attempt fails.

 I've thought about patching the bacula's acl.c to not log such
 errors for dangling symlinks, but so far have just lived with the
 extra messages.

[Bacula-users] Difference between HFSPlussupport and xattrsupport ?

2009-08-25 Thread Adam Cécile
Hello,

Since 3.0.0 Bacula understand the xattrsupport in fileset to backup
extended files attributes.
Previously their was an hfsplussupport option to support Apple's fork
file extensions.

What's the difference ? Should I drop hfsplussupport, keep both ?

Thanks in advance.

 What distribution do you use?
 For Fedora {6,7} you can just do yum install bacula-client (do yum search
 bacula to see the other available packages).

 For CentOS 5 I recommend that you enable the Fedora EPEL repo and proceed as
 described above.

 I will make other RPMs available as soon a 2.2.3 RPM is out.

 You should wait until bacula 2.2.3 is realeased which fixes a
 serious restore bug. Kern has hidden several downloads due to this
 issue.

 I guess the release will be today or tomorrow if all goes well.

Thanks.

However, I'm working on the really small setup this time, just one

So, 2.0.3 would be fine for me.

 Bacula and Dirk has made a few updates to bat, so I am thinking of making a
 new beta release today or tomorrow. I will wait to get some feedback from
 Eric concerning a problem Bill Moran has found in regression testing with
 regexwhere before cutting this beta.

 If anyone thinks there is any other critical item to implement/fix before the
 final release, now is the time to speak up.

 Best regards,

 Kern

Hi,

I have some issues with a two drive autochanger and concurrent jobs.
It works fine until two drive got tape from different pool.
Let's assume there's one tape in drive0, pool weekly; one tape in
drive1, pool daily; one job running on each tapes.
If a new daily job is run, bacula will try to run it on drive0 and then
fails because the drive is in use.

Is this bug supposed to be fixed in 2.2 ?

It's my only whish, bacula is great ;)

Thanks in advance Kern,

Regards, Adam.

 don't
 know how its correct on exabyte tapes.

 Normally the /dev/st* device makes a automatic rewind after write,
 the /dev/nst* make no auto rewind. Bacula needs imho a non auto rewinding
 device. You dosn't write wich OS you use, here are little differences
 between
 the OSes.

 Thanks Falk,

 My permissions are:

 crw--- 1 root root 21,   0 2005-02-25 22:38 sg0

 so, maybe that is my problem. Can I just change this, like any file,
 with chown (assuming that the disk part is important) and chmod?

 As far as the /dev/nst0, I had this working with the old version of
 bacula (1.36), and I found then that only nst0 worked, I would get
 errors if I tried to change it to st0.

 I am using Debian.

 cheers,
 maria

 hi there,

 have u tried to use mtx itself from shell?
 and see what results will give simple
 mtx -f /dev/sg0 status
 or whatever your autochanger device node is

 i dont know debian but i guess
 /dev/nst0 is tape drive itself not autochanger device so to move; load;
 unload tapes u have to use for example sg0 (if it works)
 like for example
 mtx -f /dev/sg0 load 3 /dev/nst0 0
 should load tape from slot 3 to tape drive

 of course u can load tape from bconsole as well

 permissions are one thing and next thing is if mtx-changer is doing a
 job and u have proper device in SD conf

 good luck

Re: [Bacula-users] newb needs help configuring Dell PV-132T

2007-06-06 Thread Adam Cécile
Well... Let me explain you some stuff.
PV132T has a barcodes reader, so the easier way to get bacula find its
volumes into the library is to label tape with their barcodes. (I guess
you have barcodes on your tape ???, check with mtx -f /dev/sgX status).
Then start bacula director and run update slots. Bacula will ask what's
in the library through mtx. Then label bardcodes will make bacula load
each tape into the drive and write the bardcode as label. Check with
list media (especially inchanger flag).

Scott McDaniel a écrit :
 How do I do that? I don't see that inside btape.

Re: [Bacula-users] changing volume retention

2007-05-29 Thread Adam Cécile
I guess you have only changed the configuration files, now you need to
update the sql catalog.
Do update = volume parmeters = all volume from pool (and select the
pool you changed the retention).

Jordi Moles a écrit :

 The amount of data that i keep is growing very fast and those new

 which are purged. When an old volume is purged, the expiration date is
 modified, but always to 18 days from that date, not 30 days.

 have you ever seen such problem? is it a normal bacula behavior?
 I'm using bacula 2.0.3 for freebsd.

 thank you.

As you can see I've written to autochanger ressources, but one has only
one drives. The same problems still occurs but now we can't tell bacula
haven't looked a inchanger flag because the device wasn't an autochanger...

Any other pointers ?

May I run two different SD ? (maybe without having always open = on)

Re: [Bacula-users] Bacula ask for a volume which has inchanger=no ?!?!?

2007-05-24 Thread Adam Cécile
I'm thinking about creating an admin job that parse volumes list and
mark all volumes not in changer as used. What would happened with bacula
then ? Does volumes with status used but without any recent writing
dates will be recycled according to their last written date ?

Adam Cécile a écrit :
 Hi,

 Not really... I made some changes on my configuration which should fix
 the problem but it doesn't :

   Device = ULTRIUM-TD3-2

   Changer Device = /dev/sg2
 }
 Autochanger {
   Name = Dell-PV132T-1drive
   Device = ULTRIUM-TD3-1
   Changer Command = /etc/bacula/scripts/mtx-changer %c %o %S %a %d

   Archive Device = /dev/nst1

   RemovableMedia = yes;
   Offline On Unmount = no;
   AutoChanger = yes
 }

 ### Dir conf

   Password = xxx
   Device = Dell-PV132T-1drive

   Autochanger = yes
   Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1
 }

 Hello,

 I just upgraded to 2.0.3 and I still have the problem. When no candidate
 volume is mounted bacula do weird things.
 Jobs are sheduled on a volume which is not in the library. If I mount a
 good volume into the drive, jobs gets scheduled on it.
 Any pointers ?

 More details... your problem description is becoming less and less
 useful for me.

 Which volumes are in the autochanger, which ones can be used, what's the
 state of the SD, what happens when jobs start, etc. Also, consider
 running the DIR and the SD with debug output, so you can track what the
 daemons do internally, i.e. how they decide which volumes to use.

 Hi,

 Today my director was blocked.
 It was asking for a volume which had inchangler flag set to no while
 there was 4 purged volume in the right pool.
 I had to load the volume into the drive manually (with mtx) and then
 mount it, otherwise bacula keeps asking for the missing volume.

 Usually, Bacula shoould use whatever tape is available. Obviously, the
 catalog has to represent the actual autochanger inventory.

 How could this happend ? Do I missed something in my configuration ?

 I don't think this is a configuration issue... most of the time, I see
 these problems when tapes were changed and no 'update slots' command
 was
 executed.

 Update slots has been run, and list media only reports the good volumes
 as inchanger.

 This is a multi-drive autochanger.

 There is a query in Bacula to show the volumes that Bacula thinks are
 in
 the changer. Try this, and if it doesn't reflect the current inventory,
 do an 'update slots'. That should work.

 Do you mean list media could be right while the sql catalog may be wrong
 ?

 If it doesn't, this should be a bug. You'll need to make sure you've
 got
 a recent version of Bacula running, the catalog is up to date, capture
 debug output for the DIR, and file a bug report. But I don't think this
 will be necessary :-)

 It really looks like being a bug... See my previous mail for more
 informations.
 Please notice that if I load the right tape with mtx and then mount it
 in bacula, the job gets written on this volumes.

 I am not sure but maybe your problems are related to the problems I have
 while using a multidrive autochanger (see me recent mails to this list).

 My impression is, that volume selection part of bacula sometimes gets
 confused and is choosing the wrong volume

Re: [Bacula-users] Bacula ask for a volume which has inchanger=no ?!?!?

2007-05-23 Thread Adam Cécile
I may have found my problem :

Here is my old setup :

### SD config:
Autochanger {
  Name = Dell-PV132T
  Device = ULTRIUM-TD3-1
  Device = ULTRIUM-TD3-2
  Changer Command = /etc/bacula/scripts/mtx-changer %c %o %S %a %d
  Changer Device = /dev/sg2
}
Device {
  Name = ULTRIUM-TD3-1
  Drive Index = 0
  Media Type = LTO3
  Archive Device = /dev/nst0
  AutomaticMount = yes;
  AlwaysOpen = yes;
  RemovableMedia = yes;
  Offline On Unmount = no;
  AutoChanger = yes
}

Device {
  Name = ULTRIUM-TD3-2
  Drive Index = 1
  Media Type = LTO3
  Archive Device = /dev/nst1
  AutomaticMount = yes;
  AlwaysOpen = yes;
  RemovableMedia = yes;
  Offline On Unmount = no;
  AutoChanger = yes
}

### Director config
Storage {
  Name = Autochanger
  Address = srv-mpp-lrs
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = xxx
  Device = Dell-PV132T
  Media Type = LTO3
  Autochanger = yes
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 2
}
Storage {
  Name = ULTRIUM-TD3-1
  Address = srv-mpp-lrs
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = xxx
  Device = ULTRIUM-TD3-1
  Media Type = LTO3
  Autochanger = yes
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1
}

As you can see, in my director config ULTRIUM-TD3-1 is defined. The
aim of this trick is to be able to run jobs on one drive only.
However, ULTRIUM-TD3-1 in director refers to a Device entry in sd, not
an autochanger one. So I guessed, bacula ignore inchanger flag.
Do you think I'm right ?

So I decided to define a second Autochanger ressources, with only on
device associated on it. I hope this would fix the problem.

Regards, Adam.

Re: [Bacula-users] Bacula ask for a volume which has inchanger=no ?!?!?

2007-05-22 Thread Adam Cécile
Hello,

I just upgraded to 2.0.3 and I still have the problem. When no candidate
volume is mounted bacula do weird things.
Jobs are sheduled on a volume which is not in the library. If I mount a
good volume into the drive, jobs gets scheduled on it.
Any pointers ?

 I don't think this is a configuration issue... most of the time, I see
 these problems when tapes were changed and no 'update slots' command was
 executed.

 Update slots has been run, and list media only reports the good volumes
 as inchanger.

 This is a multi-drive autochanger.

 There is a query in Bacula to show the volumes that Bacula thinks are in
 the changer. Try this, and if it doesn't reflect the current inventory,
 do an 'update slots'. That should work.

 Do you mean list media could be right while the sql catalog may be wrong ?

 If it doesn't, this should be a bug. You'll need to make sure you've got
 a recent version of Bacula running, the catalog is up to date, capture
 debug output for the DIR, and file a bug report.

 My impression is, that volume selection part of bacula sometimes gets
 confused and is choosing the wrong volume (or at least one which I
 consider wrong ;-) ).

 ...

 This looks like a serious issue. Which version are you running ? I'm on
 1.38.

 You really should update to 2.0, or, if you dare running a beta version,
 even 2.1.10.

 In the newer versions, the device and volume selection and reservation
 was significantly improved.

 I am trying to narrow the circumstances but by now i can't give the
 steps needed to reproduce the problem.

 While testing I found that if i am running the jobs immediately again
 everything works like I would expect (i.e. bacula reuses the tapes which
 are already in the drives and does not use new ones) while in normal
 operation (jobs run once a day) the reported problems occur.

Re: [Bacula-users] How to unload all loaded tapes to library ?

2007-05-18 Thread Adam Cécile
Hi,

Thanks for you reply. I made my own script based on yours and I added
stuff to set inchanger flag to no for all volumes.

Here is the script :

#!/bin/sh
/usr/bin/bconsole -c /etc/bacula/bconsole.conf END_OF_DATA
unmount storage=Autochanger drive=0
unmount storage=Autochanger drive=1
mount storage=Autochanger drive=0
mount storage=Autochanger drive=1
END_OF_DATA
temp=`mktemp`
for vol in `echo 'list media' | bconsole -c /etc/bacula/bconsole.conf |
grep '^|[[:space:]]\+[0-9]\+' | awk -F'|' '{ print $3 }' | sed
's![^0-9]!!g'`; do
  echo update volume=${vol} inchanger=no  ${temp}
done
cat ${temp} | bconsole -c /etc/bacula/bconsole.conf
rm ${temp}

And bacula-dir.conf :
Job {
  Name = Eject-tapes
  Type = admin
  Client = srv-mpp-lrs-fd
  Messages = Standard
  Storage = Autochanger
  Pool = Weekly, Daily
  FileSet = Dummy
  RunBeforeJob = /etc/bacula/scripts/eject_tapes
  Priority = 99
}
FileSet {
  Name = Dummy
}

It seems to do the job for now !

 I don't know if it's the right way but what I do is a mount with an
 non existing slot e.g. slot 0 after an unmount.
 Afterwards the tape will be used again by bacula.

 Andreas

Yes, it's what I'm doing right now (in fact I just type mount, and as
there's no more tape loaded in the drive, mount fails, but bacula

However I really would find something like Blocked On Umount = No
directive.

Re: [Bacula-users] HFS+ Resource Forks Support

2007-05-04 Thread Adam Cécile
Hey,

I have another question, related to this one...
Can i backup fork ressources on a Windows 2000 server (forks are
supported by this server) ?

Justin Lott a écrit :
 Hello Everyone,

 I've only just joined the ML so forgive me if I missed this issue
 being covered in the list archives at gmane.

 I am having some trouble backing up and restoring files that contain
 resource fork data from HFS+ volumes. I am using bacula-dir and
 bacula-sd 2.0.3 on Linux and bacula-fd 2.0.3 on Mac OS X 10.4.9
 Intel. I have also tested this same hardware setup with bacula 1.38.11.

 Everything I have read indicates that backup/restore of files
 containing resource forks should work properly with either version of
 bacula that I have tested. What I am seeing however is that these
 files are listed with a size of zero in both bconsole (during setup
 of a restore job, by doing a dir during file selection) and also on
 the client after the restore is complete (the resultant files are
 zero kilobytes).

 Looking through the ML archives on gmane, the last post I see
 concerning this issue was dated Monday, December 4, 2006 from Landon
 Fuller:

 As I have already stated, the documentation for 1.38.11 and 2.0.3
 imply that this feature works correctly. My question to the ML is this:

 Are files on HFS+ filesystems containing resource fork data able to
 be properly backed up and restored using Bacula (either 1.38.11 or
 2.0.3)?

 Pasted below are the relevant configuration files. Any assistance is
 much appreciated.

Re: [Bacula-users] Is HFS+ support working currently?

2007-04-18 Thread Adam Cécile
Hi,

I'm really interrested in having more infos about it.
I would know is there's anyway to backup fork ressources (like mac
aliases) from a Windows 2000 server NAS.

Regards, Adam.

Adam Compton a écrit :
 Hello,

 I am having issues with restoring Mac OS X resource forks stored on a
 HFS+ filesystem. I noticed while researching the problem that a post to
 bacula-devel[1] mentioned that HFS+ resource fork restoration was broken
 as of early December last year. I'm curious to know if this is still the
 case, or if I have a different problem. I was unable to find a bug
 related to HFS+ support in the bug database, but that may very well be
 because I am not familiar with its use.

 I have a Linux director[2] and storage daemon[3], and file daemons of
 all shapes and colors (Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows). The Mac OS X file
 daemon[4] is set to back up the system to a pool of file volumes on the
 storage daemon (as are the other file daemons). I've included the
 director configuration file for this client at [5]. When I try to
 restore a file with a resource fork, I get the file (restored to
 /tmp/bacula-restores by default), but no resource fork. The SplitForks
 utility provided with the Developer Tools does not notice a resource
 fork worth creating an AppleDouble file for, and doing a ls of the
 resource fork (ls -l filename/rsrc) shows a size of zero. Also, the
 console message for the successful restore command tells me that a total
 of X bytes were restored, being exactly equal to the number of bytes in
 the data fork of the file, instead of the size of the data fork and the
 resource fork like I'd expect.

 If it is the case that HFS+ resource fork support is still broken, I'd
 be more than happy to help test any fixes, although I don't know that
 I'd be able to contribute much in the way of code. If it has been fixed,
 is there any way for me to verify that resource forks are being backed
 up properly, and are there any special procedures that I need to take in
 order to restore them?

 Thanks in advance for your time.

Alan solution works fine.
I had to wait last night to confirm everything works fine and it does!

Thanks a lot for all your help, this mailling list is really usefull.

 Additional to what Alan already suggested...

 It would help if you tld us which version of Bacula you run and how
 your device and jobs are set up now.

 Anyway, I guess adding 'prefer mounted volume=no' to the schedules
 might be worth a try.

 I haven't investigated if that is possible, though.

 If you are using a schedule for your incremental backups, and assuming
 you have 2 storage resources listed in your director config (one for
 each drive), you could add a Storage override directive to the
 incremental schedule to use only one of those 2 drives.

 Hello,

 I have set up a bacula installation with a Dell 132T autochanger (/dev/sg2).
 It has two LOT3 drives, /dev/nst0 and /dev/nst1.
 Both drives works fine with the mtx-changer script. Currently backup are
 done but only used drive 0. I would like to run jobs on both drive 0 and
 1, however when I start two jobs at the same, the first one starts and
 the second one starts two but wait for drive 0 to become free before
 writing.
 Could you help me to get the second jobs, loads a tape in drive 1 and
 starts writing on drive 1, while drive 0 is used ?

 Thanks in advance.

 1. Run the SD with debug level 100.

 2. Look at doc for PreferMountedVolumes

Thanks a lot, it was my mistake ;-)

 3. Although you provided your conf files (very useful), you did not say what
 version of Bacula you are using (important) nor show any of the output where
 the drive is not used.
