[Bacula-users] Fun with an HP 1/8 autoloader
Hi - I'm trying to determine a reasonable base before moving onto Bacula itself... have a look at this, does it make sense? The autoloader starts off empty. I use mtx to load a tape, and even this trivial operation returns an error, yet the tape has definately moved! The autoloader already has the latest firmware :( [EMAIL PROTECTED] bacula]# mtx -f /dev/sg3 inquiry Product Type: Medium Changer Vendor ID: 'HP ' Product ID: '1x8 G2 AUTOLDR ' Revision: '1.30' Attached Changer API: No [EMAIL PROTECTED] bacula]# mtx -f /dev/sg3 status Storage Changer /dev/sg3:1 Drives, 8 Slots ( 0 Import/Export ) Data Transfer Element 0:Empty Storage Element 1:Full :VolumeTag=VHJ252L2 Storage Element 2:Full :VolumeTag=VHJ251L2 Storage Element 3:Full :VolumeTag=VHJ239L2 Storage Element 4:Full :VolumeTag=VHJ250L2 Storage Element 5:Full :VolumeTag=VHJ246L2 Storage Element 6:Full :VolumeTag=VHJ247L2 Storage Element 7:Full :VolumeTag=VHJ248L2 Storage Element 8:Full :VolumeTag=VHJ249L2 [EMAIL PROTECTED] bacula]# mtx -f /dev/sg3 load 1 Loading media from Storage Element 1 into drive 0... Re: [Bacula-users] HP Storagework 1/8

The only change I had to make was to add a sleep statement or two in the mtx-changer script. Would you be kind enough to share your mtx-changer script? (or even just a patch) I tried getting an HP 1/8 G2 autochanger running a few weeks ago and when doing a 'label all tapes' procedure (I have physical barcodes on the tapes) it failed maybe 30% of the time ... I thought I just needed some sleeps but wasn't sure where. Cheers Gavin. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. I fixed a bug a few weeks ago that was preventing the drive ready detection from working properly (hence, no wait loop after issuing a tape load command). A sleep statement in the right place would have cured the symptom but not the root cause. If the current version in SVN doesn't fix the problem, please let me know. Cool - I'll give that a go if I get a chance on Monday. I think the server needs a restart since I can't seem to talk to the autochanger with 'mtx' any more (although 'mt status' works... ) Will feedback any success / failures :) Cheers, Gavin. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. [Bacula-users] Iron Mountain offsite
Hi :) We're finally dipping our toe into the 'fun' world of tape backup. Initial tests with Bacula have proved very positive, but I have a small dilemma on which I'd appreciate input. We (as a company) want to send one full-backup tape per week to Iron Mountain for secure offsite storage. I (as sysadmin) want to have a bit-for-bit copy of that full-backup so we can do our daily incrementals against it. Thus Iron Mountain becomes a last-resort disaster recovery solution which we'll hopefully never need to call on. Is this possible without having to run two sets of backups each night?
