Distributors in Italy (RS components, Mouser, Farnell) are still without 
boards. RS says you can reserve boards for April...

[beagleboard] How to setup ethernet over USB with Debian

I'm using this image:

I was able to get this working with Angstrom following these instructions:

specifically:
route add default gw 192.168.7.1 
echo "nameserver 8.8.8.8" >> /etc/resolv.conf

But it's not working for me with Debian.

ping 192.168.7.1 works
ping 8.8.8.8 does not
ping google.com does not

[beagleboard] OSX not detecting BBB with Android on USB

Hi,

I'm successfully booting into Android on the BBB (using the image at 
http://icculus.org/~hendersa/BBB_JB_Android_3_8_13.img.bz2), and can 
navigate to Settings | Developer Options and enable USB Debugging. 

However, OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.5) doesn't recognise it when I plug it 
into the USB port. 

I've read a few pages on how to make it show up for linux and windows, but 
the consensus for OSX is "it should just work". 

Any ideas?

I'm still working on testing this image, but thought I would comment on a 
couple things before they slipped my mind.

I've flashed the eMMC on A6 and A6A BBBs and have run the flasher image as 
a live system by removing the flash-eMMC.txt file. 

The BB-BONE-AUDI-01:00A1 cape does not have a driver compiled into the 
kernel (A0 is there).
The LCD backlight frequency of 50 is causing audible whine 
(BB-VIEW4/LCD7/BB-VIEW7) when the brightness is less than 100%. I fixed 
this by changing the frequency defined in the dts file (32768 works, but I 
just chose that randomly). Which repository are these being pulled from? I 
can fork that, make changes, and issue a pull request if that would help.

With the LCD7, I don't detect much, if any, of a change between the two 
versions of touchscreen drivers. I am not saying that we should discard the 
new version, but that the new version doesn't negatively affect the system.

My thoughts, with respect to networking, are to make it easy to get a 
wireless connection up and running. Wicd is pretty good at that, but I 
notice that every 8 to 20 minutes the wireless connection is dropped. That 
could be the AP I am connected to, so I will continue to test with other 
APs. I still need to test a couple more USB adapters too.

Another comment is the screen blanking. I noticed that the LCD7 goes white 
instead of just blanking to black. Not a problem, just noticed the change. 
But in trying to disable the power saving, I open the screen saver settings 
and am greeted with a warning message that the XScreenSaver daemon isn't 
running. This may give new users the impression that something is broken in 
the image. Is there another place to disable the screen blanking timer?

make sure there's a space before the "video=." and this should force

Do you have the pullups on the board enabled, or disabled ?

Are you using 3.12 or later kernel ?  The driver for this was only merged in 
3.12.

Did you 'modprobe htu21' or is the driver compiled into your kernel ?


I've come across a few things recently that i2cdetect doesn't see, but if you 
access them directly they work fine.

I reached Malaysia last weekend. They have national holiday (Chinese New 
Year), and office was opened today only. Here is short report:

   1. ChalkElec just moved to new bigger building, most of stuff from old 
   office still in boxes. They are unpacking now, going to start operation 
   next week. 
   2. They also bought new SMT equipment. I saw new PnP machine and 
   semi-automatic stencil printer. It should solve bottleneck with manufacture 
   speed, and they will finally have stock open.
   3. I inspected today their order processing system. Looks like it has 
   bug, because some orders are missed in system, and they exist in PayPal 
   only. So, guys were not aware about orders before customers started to 
   write emails or open PayPal claim. I will check this in more details this 
week, 
   then we will try to fix it. Regarding current customers, I requested 
   ChalkElec to provide 2 lists with orders - one from PayPal, and another 
   from internal order processing system. I will write simple program to 
   compare both to find out missed orders, and we will process them manually. 
   4. In my last post I asked you to send your claims directly to me. So 
   far I got just one claim. I really hope that this problem is pretty rare.
   5. Also, I talked about giving any reward to customers who suffered from

Can someone please give me a hint howto send a command to a flash chip, in 
my case to enable on-die-ecc?

I found at some place how to read the byte, but I don't understand how to 
modify it for write (chip->write_byte isn't the way):

UPDATE: I figured out the issue - I needed to burn a fresh image onto the 
SD card before the script would copy the files. I would have appreciated 
some sort of error message :P Anyways, using the manual .dtb file copy 
mentioned previously, I got the driver loaded and the device tree loaded 
for eqep0. However, I'm getting no useable output from the position 
variable. While troubleshooting, I began to wonder if the eQEPs will work 
with only Ain and Bin connected (all my encoder has). Is there a setting 
that needs to be changed to ignore INDEX and STROBE? Just wondering, though 
I'll probably figure out how to get it operational sooner or later.

[beagleboard] Interfacing htu21 over i2c with Beaglebone Black

I got an HTU21D temperature and humidity breakout board from Sparkfun 
(https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12064). Since I'm a novice at 
electronics I'm unsure if I've made an error in connecting the device or 
there is some device driver issue. I connected the breakout to my 
beaglebone black as follows:

+ : Pin 3 (VDD)
-  : Pin 1 (GND)
DA : Pin 20
CL  : Pin 19

The datasheet says 3.8V maximum and since the VDD is 3.3V, I thought no 
logic level converter would be necessary. Running i2cdetect doesn't show 
anything connected. The output is as follows:

[beagleboard] lcd cape and kernel 3.12

We have a custom LCD cape working great with kernel 3.8.  I'm hoping I will 
have better results with sgx on kernel 3.12, so i'd like to start testing 
it.  I ran into compatibility issue with our device tree file.  I resolved 
a few issues, but haven't gotten it sorted out correctly.  It doesn't 
appear any other cape's dts files have been ported as yet.  

Does anyone know of any reference material you could point me to that would 
be useful?

Just a quick note for the one running Ubuntu on target:
 - Install libqt4-core, libqt4-dev, libqt4-gui and qt4-dev-tools by 
using synaptic package manager on BB-xM
 - qmake -> generates Makefile automatically
 - Qt Designer -> GUI layout and design
 - Qt Creator -> a cross-platform IDE

As an example if you have a main.cpp the following command lines build the 
executable on BB-xM
 - qmake -project
   // creates project file
 - qmake
   // creates Makefile
 - make
   // compile and build main.cpp
 - run the executable generated in the folder.

No dependencies are required for the kernel, and the kernel interface is
standard enough you can swap out versions without having to recompile
everything that sits above the kernel.

So yes, you can just swap out the kernel.  Especially a 3.8.13 kernel
for a 3.8.13 kernel patched with Xenomai!  They are virtually identical.

Thanks a lot, Hieu. 

I can't assure 100% but it seems that you were right. I have cut the 
problematic pins on the connector and now it is working fine. I've booted 8 
times without problems.

tools , so indeed : I've reproduced the operations manually as from
the shu script

[beagleboard] i2c4 disabled in kernel

Hi!

does anybody know why i2c4 disabled in kernel? Specifically I try to bring
up 3.7x to my device and found that the function omap_register_i2c_bus()
hangs when the bus number is 4. Digging into code shows that this check is
true
BUG_ON(bus_id < 1 || bus_id > omap_i2c_nr_ports());
because omap_i2c_nr_ports() returns 3.

any comments are appreciated
