[Bes-admins] BES communications to Blackberry via Sprint/Nextel

2009-08-12 Thread Watkins, Chris
Hey Everyone,

Question for you if you could answer this for me, I'm the BES admin for
our company, we have been having major issues with our blackberry's
losing the BES functionality on their devices. We have Sprint/Nextel as
our service provider and the reason for losing the connectivity is our
phones did not have the "BES add-on" attached to their data plans.
Sprint is explaining the problem as they are doing audit's on their
system recognizing the missing service and pulling the BES service books
from the phone causing the devices to lose connectivity with our server.

This add-on is $20 additional per device per month, on top of the
"Sprint simply everything plan" with 75 users this of course add's up to
a quite a bit of additional money each month.

Do any of you use Sprint/Nextel and are you paying for a BES Add-on to
your data plans? If your using another carrier are you being charged a
monthly fee for use of communicating via BES?

Thank You

Chris Watkins

We pay the extra money for our sprint blackberries. On AT&T we pay $15 extra
for a BES data plan.

I would talk to your Sprint rep to see if they can help you out.

Re: [Bes-admins] BES communications to Blackberry via Sprint/Nextel

2009-08-12 Thread Rich Fleming
Just about every wireless carrier has multiple BlackBerry Data Plans available
to the end user.
One for BIS, and one for BES (which also includes BIS).

The BES data plan is typically about $20.00 more per month, and is absolutely
necessary if you plan on activating the device on a BES.
No way around it.

Re: [Bes-admins] BES communications to Blackberry via Sprint/Nextel

2009-08-12 Thread Eggan, Mark
Is the 'Add-On' for full data plan with full access to the BES? Were
you working with BIS-Type data plans in the past (around 30
bucks/month). Now you are noticing users having to be on data plans
that are 45/month or so? If so, this is 100% correct. You need the
full data plan for connectivity to BES.

Off-Topic, I noticed with AT&T a lot of users were getting plans that
have unlimited texting and on AT&T's family plan. This did something
with the BES connectivity. Once we told the users about this and they
contacted AT&T we would simply resend service books and they had full
access again to the BES

Thanks!

Re: [Bes-admins] BES communications to Blackberry via Sprint/Nextel

2009-08-12 Thread Watkins, Chris
Most of our plans are Sprint simply everything's, when I activate new
phones since day 1 they have all been asked to have the Add-on for BES
connectivity as I knew I couldn't get the service books without it.
Something has been happening with Sprint lately and I've had a rash of
users lose connectivity and it was due to the Add-on being removed
sometime within the last year, it appears that something is wrong with
Sprints system and our account.

The problem is our billing dept, now notices this $20 add-on and is
questioning it since it was not showing up on previous bills. They are
also questioning why we pay for a BES CAL and a monthly fee to the
provider. I don't see the bills so I am unaware what our corporate
discount qualifies us for, but management was also looking for other
providers to lower costs.

Thank for all for your responses, my questions have been awnsered.

2009-08-12 Thread Art Alexion
I have been with Sprint on my personal account since the mid-1990s when
they first entered the Philadelphia market. They have frequently made
random and unwanted changes to my plan. This is not a recent problem.
They are a real PITA.

My work account is with Verizon.

That said, Sprint is about half the price for comparable plans in this
market, and Sprint's data speed far exceeds Verizon's.

IIRC, VZW bundles everything in one plan (at least that is what
several reps have told me when shopping). Hence you don't see two
different plans (one for BIS one for BES). Regardless, the extra cost

I never see the bills, but about one in three new phones we get doesn't have
the appropriate plan. I know this plan is missing because there is no
Enterprise Activation option. After calling and getting the right plan, and

Sure you do.

BIS with Verizon is $29.99 /month
BES with Verizon is $44.99 /month

I don't know how many times I tell people before they sign up for a BB with
Verizon "make sure to tell the sales rep you need to be on an ENTERPRISE server
plan" and the devices won't activate when they get into the office...

IIRC, VZW bundles everything in one plan (at least that is what
several reps have told me when shopping). Hence you don't see two
different plans (one for BIS one for BES). Regardless, the extra cost
is still there! :)

Re: [Bes-admins] BES communications to Blackberry via Sprint/Nextel

2009-08-13 Thread Joshua D. Smith
Per RIM Enterprise Support - using the MEID is not supported with the BESC but
have a fix in the works for the next "release" (as they call it) of BESC. Now
you can only use PIN + IMEI or ESN to verify Enterprise Readiness.

RIM provides a tool at this website to determine by PIN if a device is
correctly provisioned with BIS + BES.

You need to have RIM Tech Support contract. We have Tx2 Support.
