Why is that?

If it's an implementation issue then it's really not a question for end

It is an implementation issue - but it has an impact on end users.

The alpha bar is more useful than the numeric bar. It could be better,
though. I think there should be "Next" and "Previous" links to make
browsing from page to page a little easier. Also, it needs to take you
to the point in the page where the selected letter begins. I seem to
recall this was done at one point, but seems to be missing form the
latest 6.5 Default skin.

Yes - Next and Prev would be very useful.

2006-01-20 Thread gharris999

You might try installing the full svn version. I'm running 6.5 that way
and, aside from expected beta hiccups, it's working really well with my
all-flac library. The only area that seems unfunctional right now is
playlists. You can check the wiki for instructions on installing the
whole svn, but, briefly, you'll need to:

Download and install Activestate Perl:
http://www.activestate.com/store/languages/register.plex?id=ActivePerl

Find and download a version of subversion. I use this one:
http://subversion.tigris.org/servlets/NewsItemView?newsItemID=1417

Run a batch file something like this:
c:
md "C:\Program Files\SlimServer65"
cd "C:\Program Files\SlimServer65"
"C:\Program Files\Subversion\bin\svn.exe" co
http://svn.slimdevices.com/repos/slim/trunk "C:\Program
Files\SlimServer65"

Thereafter, to update to the most current version, run this command:
"C:\Program Files\Subversion\bin\svn.exe" up "C:\Program
Files\Slimserver65"

See the wiki for how to run the full-blown perl and code system as a
windows service.

It certainly seems like it causes a lot of grief for the developers!

Unless all album covers can appear on a single page, you need some way
to accurately seek to your artwork. Playing the "click the Next button
until you find what you seek" game is really painful. Being able to
skip directly to the area of choice is pretty important in my mind.

With Adrian's work on artwork sort underway, being able to seek seems
even more useful. I'd love to see the preference for sort order moved
to the top of the artwork page (and others too), so that a click of the
mouse just re-sorts.

I've been using a app on Windows called OrangeCD to catalog my rips,
CDs, and DVDs. It presents all artwork on a single page, and
lazy-fills as necessary upon scrolling. Its pretty darned responsive,
but then its not browser based and doesn't suffer the ill-affects of
some browsers with large pages and objects. OrangeCD handles some
things really nicely (but I can't say much about the Author's
responsiveness). I think of it often when I think of how Slimserver
could evolve. If you care to see how it looks, I can post a
screenshot.

Other than that, I don't have any other ideas to replace the index.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: IR Blaster tests

2006-01-20 Thread Duman

The volume codes work and I am able to select my receiver's SB3 input
using one of the number codes. Thanks so much for the help. Discrete
power on and power off codes would be nice but it doesn't look like
Panasonic provides them.

A few minor issues:

If I associate a sequence of codes with a particular Action, only the
last code in the sequence is blasted to my receiver. For example, I
associated my receiver's "CD input" and "volup" code with the VolUp
action but only the "volup" code is blasted when I press VolUp on the
slim remote. If the "CD input" code is listed second, only the "CD
Input" code is blasted when I press VolUp on the slim remote. Each
code blasts correctly using the Test button on the Web interface.

I have set the digital outputs to a fixed volume. My SB3 now displays
"Volume(20)" each time I press a volume button on the remote. Any
suggestions to make SB3 display a more-intuitive message in response to
volume control when the digital output volume are fixed?

6.2.1 and firmware 28

[SlimDevices: Beta] Re: Changing sort order of Browse Artwork

2006-01-20 Thread cbemoore

My server settings are "Group compilation albums together" and "List
albums by band".

If I change my server settings to display artwork in album order, then
"Browse Artwork" correctly displays the album under "R" (Romeo Must
Die"), but the caption still incorrectly reads "Romeo Must Die by
Stanley Clarke".

However, if I go to "Browse Albums", the album correctly appears as
"Romeo Must Die by Various Artists"

So in summary, "Browse Artwork (sorted by album)" and "Browse Albums"
identify the album artist in different ways, even though they should
use exactly the same logic. If you can work out how to fix this, I
reckon everything else will fall into place

OK that confirms my quess..

I need to look at the datamodel more to understand what is possible in

What do you have the Server Settings - Behaviour - Compilation options

2006-01-20 Thread cbemoore

>From what I can tell, the Various Artists handling doesn't work
correctly.

If an album has no "album artist", but each track has a different
"track artist", then the album is sorted as follows:

- The list sorting uses the first track's artist.
- The index and album caption use the last track's artist.

For example, where my index goes "8 S A", the "S" refers to the
following album:

Album : Romeo Must Die
First track : Try Again, by Aaliyah
Last track : Swing On, by Stanley Clarke

This album should appear under "V" for Various Artists. However, it
actually appears between "8" and "A", with an index of "S".

The album presumably appears between "8" and "A" because the first
track's artist is Aaliyah.
Meanwhile, the index is "S" because the last track's artist is Stanley
Clarke. Also, the album caption (below the album art) reads "Romeo Must
Die by Stanley Clarke".

Does this help?

Hum..

If you look at the actual artwork order, are there albums with a
legitimate artist name in the wrong place which cause this.

If so, do these have multiple contributors (artists etc?)

[SlimDevices: Beta] Trying to run 6.5 - won't seem to start... suggestions?

2006-01-20 Thread EnochLight

I've done a clean reformat of my system (just went dual-core - WAHOO!)
and instead of installing 6.2 I decided to try the 6.5 beta and lend a
hand in testing.

However, it installs and starts minimized on my task bar but never
begins searching my library or appears to give me access. 6.2 took all
of a few seconds to initialize.

Is there something I am doing wrong with the 6.5 beta?

Cheers,

EnochLight

[SlimDevices: Beta] Lynksys Problems - Nightly 19th Jan

2006-01-20 Thread Keith

Not sure if this is coincidence but havig loaded 6.5b1 nightly (19th
Jan) both the gateway (AG241) and the wireless access units (WAP54G)
failed. With the 54G it was the LAN that failed so coul have been down
to the gateway. I even moved ports but had the same problem. I rebooted
both units and the LAN link failed again after a short period (1 to 2
hours). I've reverted to 15th Jan nightly and everything is OK. Has
anybody else had a similar problem?

Minor correction - I was actually synced to svn 5717 (not 5515) when

I see you've reverted the YAML::Syck changes in svn 5722. I've just
upgraded to the latest (svn 5728) and everything is working happily
