Do you see error messages in server.log regarding artwork resizing or

Could you please run the following form the shell:
./scanner.pl --wipe --rescan --debug artwork=debug

Then upload the scanner.log file. Thanks!

[SlimDevices: Beta] Sync Up failed: No such player ? Softsqueeze pauses

2008-02-19 Thread aglet

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to SC7.0 through the debian packages (7.0-17600)
and all is well except for periodic pauses in playback from Softsqueeze.
They coincide with the 'Sync Up failed: No such player' messages in the
server log below.

The player MAC address it's listing is that set in the Softsqueeze
configuration. (I assume the messages about
www.beta.squeezenetwork.com are transient and not important here).

My other half tells me she used to have the odd pause with 6.5.3 but
it's become more noticeable since the upgrade.

No similar problems with the SB3 we also use.

Hi,

I'm not sure that it will import tag information from the CUE sheet. The CUE
sheet in the FLAC file might be purely for track time information.

You should really be using VORBIS comments to store the metadata in.

What operating system are you using?

If Linux, my flactag utility can retrieve metadata for an album from the
Musicbrainz service, and write it to the flac file.

[SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezeNetwork (BETA) down?

2008-02-19 Thread EnochLight

This started last night and is still happening this morning. I even
tried the latest nightly with no luck - whenever I try to connect to
Rhapsody or Pandora via www.beta.squeezenetwork.com it claims the
accounts are invalid. I have not changed anything on the website...

What gives? Am I alone in this?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Pandora Stops

2008-02-19 Thread broth420

Another strange thing I have noticed over the last couple of weeks is
Pandora keeps stopping. I will be listening to a radio station and
suddenly, it will just stop. I use the Sirius plugin as well and am
not seeing the same behavior. The player doesn't lock up or anything.
The song ends, the stream stops, and the player goes into the RSS feed
(my screensaver). I don't remember this happening in 6.5x, but in 7.01
(latest nightly), it does. Is this normal behavior or something new? I
can go back to the radio station and play it again, but after a random
number of songs, it stops (similar to the end of an album)

[SlimDevices: Beta] Nokia 770 Skin Player Selection Issue

2008-02-19 Thread broth420

I am running the latest nightly beta 7.01 on Ubuntu 7.10 Server 32. I
use the Nokia770 skin on a Nokia N800. Mostly it works well, but one
thing I have noticed is I can't get the skin to change players. I
select a different player (it looks like it highlights it) and then
move to a different page, and I am back to the original player. Am I
missing something, or is there a problem with this feature? 6.5x does
not have the same issue.
Thanks, Bill

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Squeezecenter on WHS - Lockup

2008-02-19 Thread MuckleEck

This is slightly confusing then, if the SB doesn't see any SS/SC then I
should be able to get into the network setup wizard yes?

My issue was that I wasn't able to do anything with the SBs even the
power button didn't allow me to go into the network settings just
stayed frozen.

Since the WHS had locked up and presumably locked SC up as well,
although pinging worked which proved the NIC was responding, I was
confsued as to why I couldn't switch the SBs on and get into network
setup mode as they couldn't see SC.

Not a real issue just curious...

Press and hold the left button on your remote if you want to get to the
network setup menu.

I thinkn the only time the power button will result in the display of
the network setup menu is if the device has not network settings
already (e.g., when you first power-on a brand-new Squeezebox).

[SlimDevices: Beta] Settings gone after upgrade, can't add library

2008-02-19 Thread eater

I just upgraded from slimserver_7.0a1_all.deb to
squeezecenter_7.0-17630_all.deb, and now all my settings are gone. I
copied /etc/slimserver/* to /etc/squeezecenter/ but that made no
difference.

More annoyingly, the new SqueezeCenter won't let me add my music
library! When I try to input it, it tells me Invalid value
/usr/music for audiodir. It lets me choose /usr but not a
subdirectory. The newly created system user squeezecenter has all the
same permissions that the old slimserver user had.

For now I've reverted back to the older install, but I'd like to be
able to keep current. Is there a smoother upgrade path for this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] flac files and embedded cue sheets

2008-02-19 Thread gharris999

In the flac format, a distinction is made between the cuesheet format
that is native to flac -- which contains only track timing information
(metadata type 2), and an embedded cuesheet which contains genre,
title, performer, composer, etc, which is actually nothing more than a
metadata type 4 vorbis comment with a CUESHEET label. Though they
are referred to by the same name, they are actually different.

The command you used above, metaflac.exe
--import-cuesheet-from=cdimage.cue cdimage.flac, just imports the
timing data to that type 2 cuesheet block.

The command you probably want to use is:

metaflac.exe --add-replay-gain --import-cuesheet-from=cdimage.cue
--set-tag-from-file=CUESHEET=cdimage.cue cdimage.flac

[SlimDevices: Beta] Perl went wonky on me today.....

Ok, I don't think I've changed anything in my Perl, but when I upgraded

I'm running Fedora 7, Perl 5.8.8.

Anybody seen anything like this?
I don't see anything on the web.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SqueezeCenter on Solaris x86

2008-02-19 Thread jgriffin_iii

Thank you for all of the input.. I *really* wasn't trying to start a war
pitting Solaris against Linux when I posted this question.

I was hoping for some sort of statement from the SC guys as to whether
or not Solaris would be an acceptable platform for SC going forward...

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] New Default skin

2008-02-19 Thread wimvandorst

Hi Michael,

Michael Herger;270877 Wrote:
Do you see error messages in server.log regarding artwork resizing or
GD/libgd? Looks like your SC wasn't resizing the artwork as it should.

In the squeezecenter.log, I don't notice any serious errors, but now
you pointed me to the scanner.log, I do see significant errors,
although I can't place them.

Michael Herger;270877 Wrote:
Could you please run the following form the shell:
 ../scanner.pl --wipe --rescan --debug artwork=debug
 Then upload the scanner.log file.

I ran the command, and got a lot of PERL messages (errors?). So I
included that error log (duck.log), the scanner.log that you asked for
and the server.log (just to be sure).

Unfortunately, I'm not well versed in perl, so assessing what would now
exactly be wrong (either in the perl setup or in the squeezecenter
setup) is difficult. Your help would be appreciated.

Met vriendelijke groeten, Wim van Dorst

Will you develop a version for Windows?

Unlikely I'm afraid, I do all my ripping and tagging under Linux.

Maybe if I'm feeling masochistic sometime I'll see how much effort it'd take
to port.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Softsqueeze 3.6 headless?

2008-02-19 Thread stephenkca

This is likely a newby sort of question, but I hope to avoid doing the
digging myself:

Is there an easy way to get Softsqueeze 3.6 to run in headless mode
once it has been installed? I'm not familiar with how the downloaded
app differs from a jar, but when I look at what is being run it doesn't
look at all like what the previous versions looked like.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Loading ...............

2008-02-19 Thread NFLnut

I decided to try Internets Exploder (I never use that browser anymore)
and I do notice it's a LITTLE faster, but it still takes forever a lot
of the time to load a page in Squeezecenter. Even from the
native/server machine!

All I want to do is have near-instant access to my music, to press the
PLAY button on either the remore or the web interface, and have it
start playing within a second or so. I don't want to wait what
sometimes takes 30 seconds to a minute or two for it to start playing
music. I LOVE the Squeezebox, but I am really getting tired of the
sluggish performance of SC!! I just want to play music!

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] flac files and embedded cue sheets

2008-02-19 Thread gharris999

I've got a windows utility that will pull metadata from the CDPLAYER.INI
file and mark up a cuesheet with performer, genre, comments, etc. A
fair amount of windows cd ripping software stores metadata in
CDPLAYER.INI. Watch this thread. I'll post a link to the utility in a
day or so.

elite1967;271007 Wrote:
BTW, what is the command add-reply-gain for?

Replay gain is a standard that Slimserver/Squeezecenter supports which
allows volume normalization. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replay_gain

Metaflac will scan the audio data using the replay gain algorithm and
add a series of comment tags to your flac file: e.g.

Code:

  comment[0]: REPLAYGAIN_REFERENCE_LOUDNESS=89.0 dB
  comment[1]: REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN=-1.47 dB
  comment[2]: REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_PEAK=1.
  comment[3]: REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN=-1.47 dB
  comment[4]: REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_PEAK=1.

If you have the volume adjustment feature turned on in SqueezeCenter
(Settings-Players-Audio-Volume Adjustment/Replay Gain=Album Gain)
then the player will adjust the playback volume so that perceived
volume is supposed to remain constant from album to album. It seldom
really works that way, but it's better than nothing.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Perl went wonky on me today.....

2008-02-19 Thread Michael Herger
Ok, I don't think I've changed anything in my Perl, but when I upgraded
SqueezeCenter this morning, I started seeing messages like below. At
first, I figured Squeezecenter was broken, but I downgraded and
continued to get the same messages.

Wipe plugin-data.yaml from SC's cache folder and start SC with additionl
--d_startup --debug server.plugin=debug parameters to get some more
information.
