There are now 3 phases to a scan:

What happened to the 'Playlist scan' phase?

Should be unchanged.

Progress tracking is still somewhat screwed up. When you do a new
changed scan, it doesn't display anything at all for the first phase.
The subsequent phases only show up after each one has completed.

When you do a clear/rescan, progress for the first phase is tracked,
although it takes a while before it first appears.

Yeah, there are still some bugs around progress.

I have not had a chance to read all the threads related to the new
SQLite builds... So forgive me if this has been answered before.

I just installed build 27511 and I noticed that it rescans my library
at every computer and SC server restarts. Is this a known issue?

I don't know ? it does not rescan mine every time, but it has a new
feature that I turned of for now as it not working yet i think ?

Under basic settings you have Automatically detect changes

Squeezebox Server can watch your music folder and automatically detect
changes. New and changed files should appear in your library within
several minutes.

This will be very good when it's debugged :) as only have to dump the
new files on my server, no more starting web-UI to click rescan.

Can this be the problem ? or you have found a new bug ?

SC does rescan your library on startup, the idea is to detect changes
that were made while SC was not running. Along with the auto-rescan
stuff, it's not bug-free yet. It is supposed to be a friendly
background task though, and not interfere with the rest of the server
operation.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Some feedback on 7.4x Plugin Screen

2009-07-14 Thread egd

Hi

Just installed Version: 7.4 r27526 and would like to provide some
feedback re suggested changes to the Plugins configuration screen.

Please, please, please move the Settings column to the left of the
screen to appear before the Description column. Don't know about
others, but I can't see how having to move my mouse cursor from one side
of the screen to the other to flip between activating/deactivating and
configuring a plugin to be good UI design.

The enable/ disable functionaliity also appears to be buggy - sometimes
installing and enabling and other times not. I've had to enable some of

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7.4 enhancement request..

2009-07-14 Thread gharris999

These enhancement requests (mine is really a dupe of Jörg's) have been
out there for a while without generating much interest.

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7069
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=10184

What's the proper protocol here? If an enhancement request is
unassigned and doesn't have much of a cc list, is it fair or helpful to
occasionally post here with a Hey! What about this? sort of reminder?

I fixed a bug where the MusicIP check would take 60 seconds to time out
if MIP is not running on localhost. For some reason on Windows the
connect request hangs where on other platforms it fails immediately if
the port is not open.

Thanks for your response. I just changed that setting from automatic to
manual. I have to wait until SC finishes rescanning yet again to see if
it changes this behavior.

With the MySQL version whenever I added new music to my library I
validated the tracks via the MIP UI and then using the MusicMagic server
Web server UI I clicked reload cache and this started the scanning for
New Music in SC. Will this still work in the same way if the auto
detection for changes is set to manual? Maybe is just me but having
Automatically detect changes option for manual and auto and the
Rescan Music Library option to Look for changed music seem a little
redundant. What's the difference?

Also, I noticed that the Music Scan Details is stuck and is displaying
the results of the initial scan. It does not display any progress even
after I reboot the computer or when SC scans again to look for new
additions.

OK, I realised I'm being a bit dense...you can use the lfm://
identifying to play any station (group or otherwise) in the station
tuner...and then also add it to the My Radio plugin I use.

What are the future plans for the official LFM plugin, what else might
be added?

Two things I'd love are:

1. Automatically tag submitted songs with the genre.
2. The ability to exclude certain genres from being submitted (i.e. so
my 8 year old daughters High School Musical tastes don't pollute my LFM
profile...)

 1. Automatically tag submitted songs with the genre.

They have since added methods to the API for adding tags to a track,
album, or artist. So maybe we can do this at some point. Think about
how you think it should work, and whether it should also tag albums
and artists, and file an enhancement with details.

 2. The ability to exclude certain genres from being submitted (i.e.
 so
my 8 year old daughters High School Musical tastes don't pollute my
 LFM
 profile...)

Maybe, if it gets enough votes. Or better yet, submit a patch!

I handle this by automatically disabling submission when squeezecenter
is restarted. I have to manually turn it on again when I am listening to
music, but the rest of the family don't have to think about turning it
back off.

On linux you can do this by adding a one-liner sed script to the
/etc/init.d/squeezecenter startup script. Around line 38 I added:

 d_start() {
 sed -i s/account: tj44/account: 0/
 /var/lib/squeezecenter/prefs/plugin/audioscrobbler.prefs

(change the tj44 to your lastfm account name)

It should only show plugins which are available for the current version

 install ok.

To start, a simple comment in the comment field stating the SC
version(s) supported and any dependencies from other plugins should
suffice. No need to re-invent the wheel.

I think a better way to achieve this is through user personas.

If/when SbS supports different music libraries and personas, different last.fm
accounts could be automatically selected based on the music that is selected to
be played. Eg. if you had My Music and Daughter's Music, each could be
associated with a different last.fm account (or no account).

Updated to build 27550 and changed the setting to manual and so far it
has not re-scanned after SC restarts. I'll be adding and validating two
new CDs tomorrow. Let's see if the scanner will start automatically
after I refresh the cache.

If we're on the subject of the new(ish) Last.fm API, just another plug
for playlist support please (as discussed 'here'
and on a few other threads since).

Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)?
-Siduhe Loved Tracks radio got the thumbs up. Feedback included: yeah,
it's good... got the odd dodgy track tho...- (c) 'ModelCitizen'

Oh yeah, I'm giving 'Twitter' (http://twitter.com/Siduhe) a try - and
surprising myself how many interesting people are out there...
