But when searching, any diacritics or punctuation can be removed to find more hits. So, a user could have songs by an artist "Sinead O'Connor", and other songs by an artist called "Sinead O`Connor". They should be treated as different artists, but each would have a namesearch content of "Sinead OConnor", and searching for either "Sinead O'Connor" or "Sinead O`Connor" would find both artists. It would then be possible to easily find the music that has inconsistent tags and fix them. When all music with artist="Sinead O`Connor" are eliminated, a rescan should delete that artist. As the two forms of the artist name are currently treated as the same artist record, no amount of tag tweaking and scanning for changed music will correct the DB. ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Never mind if you are in Greece, Russia... I think there has to be a compromise here. I think the simplest solution is to use exact string matching (no normalisation of special/extended characters). So if you've tagged Bjork as Bjork it will find Bjork (but not Björk) and display Bjork. If you've tagged Björk it will find and display Björk but not Bjork. If you have Bjork and Björk they will be 2 artists. This way, the user is in complete control, the software is not trying to outsmart them (and failing) and any problems are easy to find and fix. Heck - it even makes the code SIMPLER! :-) -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... They fixed it for nordic characters . It displays Bjork and Björk as artist, thats good . But search for Bjork does not turn up Björk ? thats ok with me as a swede, but i bet some other folks have a hard time finding the "ö" key :-/ But his is an easy case o and ö are completely different letters a diacritic is a mark for some other kind of pronunciation of the same letter or what ? so o=ö is not more correct than a=e for example so that was easy. But search should still turn up ö for o as a service for all fine people thats not from Sweden. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE for the rear ch. Whatever the fix for bug 16488, it will close bug 10324 by defining the behavior for updates when the name string is not character-identical to what's in the database, even though there's a match in the namesearch column. The crux of both is that the 'first in' scanning behavior prohibits a new & changed scan from properly updating the database if the tagging is changed. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81548 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
