Agreed, something is seriously wrong with 7.6

Oh, I didn't realise that. I don't really use cuesheets, but used them a bit
in the past; mainly for basic info, with album-context tags in the base file.
i.e. track numbers+titles in .cue, and album name, year, etc, in the .wav.

Mp3Tag is similar - only allows basic tags (doesn't read/write REMs, but
doesn't lose existing ones).

I guess the problem is that there's not a very good definition for .cue sheets,
but I'd expect remarks to be read in as generic name/value tags, and thus write
them back again.

Not many apps seem to support cue sheets, which is why I gave up with them
(unless absolutely necessary).

.cue sheets are only text, so how about writing scripts to edit text directly.
eg. awk?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Install problem with 31943 nightly (minor)

2011-02-26 Thread dwilliams01

This morning it wanted to auto-update with 31943 (I noticed that the web
page has 31945).

However I recieved an error when it was installing. The file
scanner.exe could not be replaced with an error code of 5.

I hit retry several times, no change.
I checked and it wasn't running so I renamed it with widows explorer,
hit retry again, and it finished installing.

Mentioning it in case someone else wants the workaround. Also, wanting
to know if it is an issue just with my setup or something that will need
to be fixed, etc.

Thanks.

I have C utilities that I've written that can both extract a cuesheet
and update it. It would be just a matter of tweaking the update
utility so that it can get search/replace terms from a text file and
fix-up the genre names accordingly. Then, I'd have to re-jig my
PostScan queries so as to update namesort to get the genres in the
proper order.

The biggest problem is that my cuesheet update utility is a 228kb mass
of spaghetti C code that I've been patching over and over since 2005.
I'm afraid that adding another major feature is going to require a
complete refactor.

So yes, this is doable...but time consuming. What I had was working
beautifully. So, until I get the time to update my ripping tool chain
and retag, I'll live with a custom Genre.pm.

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 31945 scanning seems completely broken

2011-02-26 Thread dwilliams01

hangs on first file when scanning. Clear and rescan states that no
library is configured but it was previously...
The first file had also scanned correctly previously, too.
windows 7, 64 bit.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 31945 scanning seems completely broken

2011-02-26 Thread JJZolx

Not quite, but nearly. It can be difficult getting 7.6 off the ground
due to some large bugs.

- Go to Settings > Information and 'abort' the scan.
- Go to Settings > Performance and set 'Automatically detect changes'
to Disabled. Doesn't hurt to also set 'Network share detection
  interval' to 0.
- Shut down Squeezebox Server.
- Check Windows' Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), and if there's still a
  server.exe process running, kill it.
- Find Squeezebox Server's cache folder and clear everything in it.
- Restart Squeezebox Server.

It should begin a scan soon after starting up. Hopefully with better
results.

Oh, you use embedded cue sheets? That limits options a bit.

I agree totally, there are a lot of us MIP users out there.
For instance have a look through the 38 pages in this thread

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Onebrowser and mixers

2011-02-26 Thread peterw

pippin;613509 Wrote:
> Would it be possible to include the type of the object in the queries?

Reminds me of the whole Mixer vs. Context menu argument. This is
another good chance to open the model up to become a more generic (and
powerful!!) context menu model. Mixers are so darn limiting. Good
example -- TrackStat. Erland can do some stuff via mixers, like allow
you to rate a song as you browse your library. Rate the song you're
browsing, that is, because Trackstat-as-mixer can only be invoked on
browsable music objects. But with my generic ContextMenu plugin (which
only supports IP3K), Trackstat can be invoked at any time, when looking
at any object. It can tell (thanks to code Erland contributed) what
you're browsing, so it can offer the Mixer-like options. But it can
also look at the state of the Squeezebox and SBS. You can browse the
Beatles while listening to the Stones, and Trackstat on ContextMenu can
let you rate the Stones tune you're hearing even while you peruse
Beatles' records.

I don't have the time to contribute any code (though as I told Dean
many months ago, ContextMenu itself is GPL and I certainly welcome your
lifting anything useful from it). I don't even have the energy to argue
the point much (to see more, see the discussion in Erland's 'bug 6021'
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6021)). But it seems right
to suggest that instead of reimplementing limited Mixers for onebrowser,
you implement a richer context menu model and use that to implement
whatever mixers Logitech chooses to ship.

Thanks.
