Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Lms 7.7 rc4
RC4: Install over RC3 (running as a service)... 1) Install hangs indefinitely at "Uninstalling"... THIS NEEDS FIXING 2) killing the uninstall process allows install to proceed - although the registering services step takes several minutes and then appears to crash - then it reappears with an "install successful" dialogue box 3) Immediately post-install the server service is not running. 4) opening the control panel and starting from there (NOTE: "Don't start automatically" is checked!- doh!) does start the service BUT now a FULL SCAN has started - WHY? The library has not changed. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Lms 7.7 rc2
The RC2 install is borked on Win 7 - exactly as Bill Burns described. See attached screenshots after 30 mins... If you kill the uninstall process in Task Manager, it then completes OK. The problems appear to be related to squeezetray.exe... The initial scan (post-install) appears to complete OK but... New Music is empty... and a new/changed scan immediately kicks off... After that all seems OK. Music scanned fine, all present and correct - except for a new intolerance (well, a warning message in scanner.log) for rating tags containing decimal points (e.g. "3.5"). +---+ |Filename: CropperCapture[2].jpg| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=12533| +---+ -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Default artticle list in SBS/LMS?
Band names and album titles need to be treated differently. No one on the planet files bands starting with "The" under "T"... there are simply far too many of them for this to be a good idea. However, there are very few bands and relatively few albums that start with "A". Thus there is little reason to ignore the article "A". According to my analysis of my library (3000 albums) less than 1% of albums start with "a" or "the". The point is that the ratio of win vs nix amongst the installed user base of SBS is NOT going to be similar to that within the general population of all computer users. Mostly because I object to the idea that I already have "Mark Knopfler" and "Emmylou Harris" defined as artists (individually) on other tracks/albums and I don't want to be forced to synthesise a new hybrid "albumartist" (e.g. "Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris"). I understand for sure why other folks might want to do this / be happy to do this... but I don't because it messes (slightly) with my artist count stats... and also there is no absolute sense in which the tag can be deemed "correct"; "Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris" could just as well be "Emmylou Harris & Mark Knopfler" - it's an arbitrary choice - and I hate those. OK so can we agree that the logically "correct" behaviour for albums with multiple ARTIST tags and no AA and which are not VA Comps is... everything as it is now, except that the album should appear under each ARTIST in album browse (as it already does in artist browse). However, because this would create multiple entries per album in this view it is not going to happen - so instead it should take the FIRST named artist as the sort/location point. OK - I see now. I only have a max of 3 artists - and my "3" is odd because all artists names start with "C"... Looking at the album browse use-case again, I'm not sure it matters exactly where the album appears in the alpha sort sequence. If you are consciously looking for a particular album title, wouldn't you KNOW the artists? If you are purely working visually, does it matter what exact sequence the covers appear in? However, back to the physical world for a moment... if you had the CD, where would you file the 1 copy of it? I don't want to take this off-topic, but really I (also a "musician") like to differentiate between "performances" - by the same performer. I'm occasionally interested in who wrote a song but I'm usually much more interested in the performer... and then in the spcific performance. Unfortunately SBS has no built-in method for supporting "performance" (and the Composer fucntionality is indeed broken in 7.6 but I'm sure it can/will be fixed if enough people vote for a bug). Aha - very interesting. So the solution to your problem is to run everything from the PC (Touch, receiver and Radio) - either wired or via wi-fi - and use 7.6. That will get you the fastest possible scanning / full rescans & UI performance, and get rid of your artwork problems. OK - it wasn't clear you had a proper PC :-) The "only one artist even on duets" bug is a UI bug not a scanner bug - it does need fixing and I'm sure it will get fixed at some point, but it isn't really a "showstopper". It does annoy me too. Not sure what the "artwork bug" is - all of mine is fine. I haven't seen the random disappearing trayicon problem for a while - doesn't seem to affect my Win7 setup as much as it did under XP - again it is mildly annoying but hardly a showstopper - there's nothing you can't do even without that icon visible... To be honest, if I had 240k files I would DEFINITELY be investing in a proper PC to run SBS. That is a massive collection. My humble Win7 and XP PC's can scan 40k files+artwork and MusicIP mix status in 37 minutes on SBS 7.6. 240k of files would take maybe 4 hours on my setup I wouldn't even dream of using the Touch internal server or a NAS of any spec for that size of library. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...
