Yes, it appears there will be no upgrade from WHS v1 to Vail. So many aspects are different - the Drive Extender technology is vastly different, the add-in architecture is completely revamped. Themis, you are correct. The WHS add-in does NOT auto-update, but it auto-downloads and alerts there is a new version. I don't think I've seen any third party add-ins that actually auto-update. The WHS, being server software, is architected to require uninstall and reinstall rather than in-place update (although I wish it were otherwise). Not sure of the timeline for a fixed Controller (jive) firmware. I ended up downgrading to 7.4 (r7790). I also took the liberty of editing the wiki (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.ph...te_via_SD_Card) to reflect 7.4 instead of 7.3. Note that you will have to delete the jive .bin file from cache\updates AND edit the jive.version file to reflect the current firmware (r7790) or else you will be prompted constantly to download a nonexistent firmware update. Your player should show up now. 5. Your player will show a version like 7.4-r0 if you are running on Windows - apparently they haven't implemented version display on Windows(?) 6. While it is connected, you can rename the player, adjust settings. Some of this seems to actually work. 7. Settings seem to be saved properly now - excellent! As far as syncing, are other people getting audio output from Squeezeplay when it is synced to another player? I'm wondering if my results are unusual. I can sync from my desktop SP app to my Receiver. When I start playing a song on the Receiver, the Now Playing display on the desktop SP shows the current album and song, with the time slider advancing. But no audio output from the SP, even as I listen to the Reciever playing downstairs. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.4 Desktop Squeezeplay builds with Radio/Touch/new Controller UI now available
For your specific desire to SYNC the Squeezebox and Squeezeplayer, maybe a 7.3x version of both would do (don't know where to find them, but someone should post a link shortly). The 7.4+ builds of Squeezeplay have been broken when synchronizing - the result is no audio output. I can play music from my Receiver, and music from my Squeezeplay app, but as soon as I sync them I get no audio from Squeezeplay until I exit the app. (The IU indcates that the music IS synced correctly - but there is no audio.) I don't currently care about sync between software players and hardware (more interested in sync between hardware players) so it's not a deal-breaker for me. I have SqueezePlay 7.4 installed on six PCs, and now that I've learned how to connect to my SBS (choose other player, then choose this player) AND properly persist settings (rename all lua.new files to lua) things are going pretty well. Of course, I am unable to connect with MySb to 'register' the players. It's a cool way to distribute my music into even more locations. Even though I plan on Receivers in three rooms and maybe a Boom for kitchen/deck, it is nice to use the same interface to access my music and internet radio on whatever computer I am using. It would be nice if it uninstalled and reinstalled the new in one step. Don't know how possible this is, but it would probably involve stopping the SC server - likely too much work right now. b- IIRC, there is a setting in some preferences file for how often it looks for a new version and downloads it. I think it's 12 hours by default. So it won't even look for another build for 12 hours after you've installed the last one. c - I found it worked best for me to reserve a fixed IP for my WHS (and thus for any process running on it). If you are using DHCP from your router, you probably can reserve the current IP for your WHS. This gives you the same result (at least internally) as having a static IP. If by recently you mean in the last two weeks, then the "beta" has been repointed to test.squeezenetwork.com instead of www.squeezenetwork.com. You need to create a new account on test.squeezenetwork.com. I used the same username and password to make it easy once they point the beta back to the production server. In 20+ years of working in commercial software, beta has typically meant feature complete. Alpha means key functions exist yet some features are broken/incomplete or missing. Both the 7.4 server and the Controller firmware have features missing or broken. They are clearly being fixed - but it's not quite beta yet (if you agree with the stipulation of feature complete for beta). Beta != 'has bugs.' ALL software of non-trivial complexity has non-trivial bugs. Even shipping software! I remember 'beta' testing some software years ago. The external beta group found that there were so many key features missing or broken that it did not meet our expectations for a beta, and was not worth it to spend more time stumbling over gaping holes in the product than actually finding bugs. The company pulled the beta until they could provide a nominally stable and feature complete beta. -- gcurrie gcurrie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31389 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66791 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

I've been running 7.4 for more than a month, currently at r27885. I stopped there since I knew my Duet was coming this week and I wanted some stability for a party this weekend. Setting up yesterday was fairly simple and I was able to get wireless going right away with only a few little speedbumps. Main floor audio system is in a closet 10 feet away from the network closet so wifi signal is strong. So far it's dialed in and I'm looking forward to streaming 4 hours of FLACs tomorrow.
