So you say the 20/80 rule applies here... maybe this variant:

20% of the code is functionality; the remaining 80% is interface and
making sure the code can survive users.

My OPPO 93 can offers and play FLAC, MP3 and my one MakeMKV rip.
Actually it does not offer/show the AnyDVD rips.
But that must be seems in part to be the OPPOs fault.

As on another note I installed XBMC on my laptop and played around for
an hour or two, also against LMS rc4

- music; folder browsing and artwork is shown; default player (PAP?) in
XBMC not working for FLAC but "DVDPlayer" does

- video; much better than my OPPO 93, as it can also playback AnyDVD
content rips from DVD + Blu-ray.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Sound quality on LMS (wav/flac)

2011-09-28 Thread slate

I don't think that there are any changes in those areas: The goal with
7.7.0 are primarily:
- The rename to LMS
- Add the DLNA plugin for the Revue

For the music part it is mainly bugfixes... but you be the judge...

Version 7.7.0 aka Logitech Media Server
New Features:
- DLNA/UPnP support:
- Media library is exposed as a Media Server.
- All connected players are exposed as Media Renderers
(experimental).
- Image and video file scanning support has been added and is exposed
via the DLNA media server.
- Supported video file types: asf, avi, divx, flv, hdmov, m1v, m2p,
m2t, m2ts, m2v, m4v, mkv, mov, mpg, mpeg, mpe, mp2p, mp2t, mp4, mts,
pes, ps, ts, vob, webm, wmv, xvid, 3gp, 3g2, 3gp2, 3gpp, mjpg
- Supported image file types: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP
- Multiple media directories can now be specified. Each directory can
be configured for audio, images, and/or video.

Platform Support:
- Perl 5.14 modules for Linux systems have been added.
- Win32 now uses ActivePerl 5.14.1.

Bug Fixes:
#4803 - Scanner does not validate RATING tags
#5091 - DLNA (UPnP) Server Support
#11289 - Scanner ignores first line of cue sheet if it has a UTF-8 BOM

#17090 - WMA seeking fails if file does not contain an ASF_Index object

#17213 - Error message installing SBS 32398 on Ubuntu 11.04
#17242 - Perl 5.12 modules in CPAN/arch not compatible with Debian
Wheezy
#17358 - Importers (MusicIP, iTunes) are not run during a rescan

Version 7.6.2 - unreleased
Bug Fixes:

1. Are you sure that the 7.6.2 uninstall was hanging? I have used
uninstall a couple of times over the years, and the first time I also
thought that it was hanging... but no it just takes an unbelievebal 15
min to do its job on my server

2+3 could be the same; it is not always seen when the scanner dies. As
a user it looks as if the scan takes forever.
With 7.6.x there are several reports of the scanner dying with any
errors; even with additional debug info enabled.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] accept denied 127.0.0.1

2011-09-24 Thread slate

As I confessed in #5 it was a problem I had introduced myself in
settings -> Advanced -> Security

I think that I had enabled "Block Incoming Connections" but as "Allowed
IP Addresses" = 192.168.0.*

192.168.0.* being my internal IP range here at home

Then everything appeared to work, until some weeks later when I tried
to use the webbrowser on the server itself.
As it launced using "local" (127.0.0.1) it was caught by the filter.

I disabled it again, but had I changed the filter to
192.168.0.*,127.0.0.1 it should have worked.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] LMS video menu, how does it look like with tagged video files ?

2011-09-19 Thread slate

I am seeing the same thing but then I am a "rip movie noob" so not sure
what tags I might have if any.

I only ripped a couple of movies to see/test the functionality.

- ISO files are not seen... expected... maybe Win8 will change that

- DVD an Blu-ray content ripped with AnyDVD: not picked up by scanner

- Blu-ray content ripped with MakeMKV

The one Blu-ray I ripped with MakeMKV resultet in 7 files. As I browse
the folders I only see the non-descriptive filenames and nothing about
size etc... So I have to guess on what is the main feature.

There is a bug raised on 7.6.1 music scanner performance UNC compared

Shortened the path for my complete Mahler collection and the scanner are
still running.

Conclusion:
- Both internal and external scanner crash when path+filename is to
long. This should be handled with a nice error message in log letting
the scanner continue
- Filename and path unchanged and it worked in 7.6.x... something
changed in LSM?!
- During installation the C++ runtime complains because a newer version
is installed

It is the same that I see; the crash is in the classical section of my
library; with their notorius long names.

Longest path+name in the directory is 245

e:\music\Classical\Mahler, Gustav\Klaus Tennstedt\Mahler; The Complete
Works (150th Anniversary Edition)\Disc11\13 - Symphony No. 8 in E flat

Worked fine for 7.6.x.

I would assume that you can setup a fixed IP address in your NAS
graphical interface; but that would only fix it for the NAS.
In your router you can also reserve IP addresses; normally the Router
identifies your various equipment using their MAC address.

That way you can ensure that your equipment always have the same IP
addresses.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Lms?

2011-09-11 Thread slate

Just to add a bit to the previous post.

I ripped a 2 DVD and a Blu-ray to ISO -> not shown/handled by LMS.
I then ripped the Blu-ray (EDWARD_SCISSORHAND)again with AnyDVD to get
the contents, which the scanner noticed.

Used MakeMKV (default settings)on another Blu-ray -> 7 mkv files.
Tested with my OPPO93; it plays the 6 small comments and extras. The
main mkv it loads to 50% and then states that it cannot plat the
file... OPPO also have work to do ;-)

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Lms?

2011-09-11 Thread slate

Gave r33408 a spin

When it managed to scan the handfull of movies that I have rippe for
the occation it coughed on this:

[11-09-12 01:13:36.7838] Slim::Utils::Scanner::LMS::__ANON__ (229)
ERROR SCANNING
D:\film\96391438_EDWARD_SCISSORHAND_F1\BDMV\STREAM\00023.m2ts: Unable
to determine audio/video codecs(code -4)

The particular is a Blu-ray ripped with AnyDVD.
The others are:
- DVD via AnyDVD
- Blu-ray with MakeMKV

Playback still to be tested.

However both the external and internal scanner are a bit dodgy and
dies. Sometimes the server finds out that the external have died.
And it is not just the movies; I can no longer complete a scan of my
music which have otherwise scanned fine in the time I have been
squeezing ...lately 7.6.2.

According to the debug log it always dies in the classic section of my
library. Maybe it is collapses under all the tag info and lonnnggg
filenames... hmm

And finally the installation complains.. well the C++ runtime complains
because a newer version is installed

Hmm what are the definition of a good DLNA client? most TVs cant do
nothing unless the server pampers it and convert everything to 1-2
formats that the TV can handle.

I can see why you question the LMS project and in part I agree with
you.
People in the know are welcome to educate me; but from my understanding
UPnP/DLNA is a very basic protocol. To simple for the XBOX extender
functionality and even for Squeezebox.

One reason to implement it is because it is a buzz word that you need
to have on you feature list; because people thinks that they need to
have it.

A similar story; Bang & Olufsen have been doing multiroom solutions for
decades with their Beolink. Back in 88-90 the Japanese companies
suggested to make a common interface to be used to interconnect and
control the different parts of your hifi setup. B&O look at the draft
and reject it. Way to simple for their usage.

Anyway someone in Logitech think they need too have it, so who are we
to argue

Sorry about the late answer; I tested the 7.6.0 DLNA with my OPPO 93
when I received it in the beginning of June and it worked fine then.
The OPPO comes with an USB WIFI dongle.

FYI I played a handfull of FLAC files. But according to the forums the
european firmware will not play MP3 yet. They are waiting for some
license to come through. But if the files are renamed to *.wma it
plays; so the capability is there, they just filtered out the mp3
file-extention for now.

7.5.2 16 min
7.6.0 4 min before WAL (33011)
7.6.0 6½ min with WAL
7.6.0 8 RC2

Sounds like it is not a specific file as such... hmm if you enabled the
detailed logging and try a scan again maybe we get something to look
at... then we can think about a bug report later.
For now you can just make a post here and attach the logfiles; maybe as
zip if they are large.

You can enable more logging by going to SBS Settings/Advanced/Logging
and changing one or several of the following log points to "debug":
- scan
- artwork
- scan.import
- scan.scanner

If it stalls on a specific file, make sure to register a bug report and
attach that file to the bug

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Pressing Play on "empty" links in the web-UI causes server to use 100% for several mi

2011-08-14 Thread slate

With my Atom it takes about 12 sec before the music starts to play. Any
track the was playing goes on until then, but that might be buffer.
Some CPU activity on one core but not massive.
I have tried with other searches and I always getting the same 100+
tracks.
My Playlist limit is the default 500.
My library is 9018 tracks.

Anyway I guess that the "error" is that it is possible to press play on
"empty"... a onebrowser feature.
The appearing tracks are a sideeffect.

Hopefully some of these users will have their issues fixed aswell. But
yes there will some that still have issues and they will feel confirmed
in the "incompetence of Logitech" but we will have a new fixpoint.

More artwork issues
AudioAudi; seems able and willing to do debug; doesn't look like he
have filed a bug http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89431

Went through this thread

Still some possible open cases in this one:
- AIFF issues: Michaelj, netchord
- Mac issue: Todd R - 7.6.1. missing 80% of the artwork. Some kind of
helper app crashes
- error 40: Churchill32 -

There seems to be some "Apple" related issues. Can see from SVN that
Herger have worked some Apple issues, but no success - some checkin
comments:
33032 - add iTunes' music_path to the log to help debugging iTunes
scanner issues
33043 - log track id during iTunes import to simplify playlist import

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Scanning performance 7.5.6 vs 7.6.1 with WAL

2011-08-11 Thread slate

I do not recall the exact numbers from last night

7.6.1 r33011 with SQLite #1 6:19 before WAL
7.6.1 r33011 with SQLite #2 3:59 before WAL
7.6.1 r33033 with SQLite #1 9:xx with WAL
7.6.1 r33033 with SQLite #2 6:xx with WAL

For me WAL adds 50% compared to 7.6.1-non-WAL.
But it is still much faster than 7.5.x which would have used about 18
min on my now 9018 tracks.

I see the same pattern at work on my brand new Dell M6600 with library
on external USB2 drive.

7.6.1 r33011 with SQLite #1 4:41 before WAL
7.6.1 r33011 with SQLite #2 0:45 before WAL
7.6.1 r33022 with SQLite #1 5:23 with WAL
7.6.1 r33022 with SQLite #2 1:25 with WAL

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] SQLite WAL in 7.6.1 - please test

2011-08-10 Thread slate

The clear and rescan got it right; performance wise it is now 50+%
slower, but still takes only 40% of the 7.5 time.

However a clear cache left me with no functional database.

server states:
[11-08-10 23:22:29.3949] Slim::Utils::SQLiteHelper::postConnect (333)
Optimizing DB because of missing or empty sqlite_stat1 table

[11-08-10 23:22:31.7163] main::checkDataSource (1052) Warning: Schema
updated or no tracks in the database, initiating scan.

And the scanner... well no progress info in the webinterface but
according to the log it goes ahead and find everything... no errors.

However meanwhile the server is suddenly down:
DBD::SQLite::db do failed: malformed database

a continuation on my previous report on 33022.

So only half the music there... I settled for that as I was at work;
annoying I know but I found that eg Abraxas only had 3 tracks and
when I tried to play it only the first seconds played before it skipped
to the next track etc
Had a meeting and in the lunchbreak I cleaned the cache and went for a
rescan and it went downhill from there "bad database" "no music
source defined"... or something to that effect.
Went back to 33011

Now at home... should I have a go at my music server.?!

Regarding times, with my 1 track library I went from 16 min in 7.3
