[Ontbirds] Colour-banded Great Egret at Oakville Waste Water Management Pond in Oakville
I observed and photographed a Great Egret wearing a red colour-band on 2 August at the Oakville Waste Water Management Pond just east of Bronte Road in Oakville. The red band carried the number 47W and, according to Chip Weseloh, the bander, it was banded on 20 June 2008 as a flightless young at Npttawasaga island, near Collingwood. This indicates that there may be other colour-banded egrets in the Torronto area. Please keep your eyes open and watch for red bands. [Ontbirds]Eagles
Nice day birding today, went back to Woodland Cemetery looking for a very tiny songbird that we had seen yesterday. The bird in question was smaller than a chickadee but could not relocate it, and I cannot identify it either. But while searching for it I was lucky enough to see 3 immature bald eagles flying together at close range. I also came across an eagle in a tree that was just below eye level, but it was spooked by some people with two dogs. I left the cemetery and went to LaSalle Park, only to see the normal waterfowl so I thought I would pass by Paletta Lakeshore Park to find the Titmouse that has been seen there. I did locate the Titmouse and was just trying to frame him/her in my camera sight when it suddenly went black as another bald eagle soared over the tree tops very low and proceeded towards Hamilton. Then off to Walkers Line to view the Pine Grosbeaks which did not fail me, but they only stayed briefly as it started to rain. All and All a great day birding with photos taken. [Ontbirds]White Mandarine Escapee
Thanks to everyone that emailed me trying to identify my mystery bird, spotted Saturday November 10th, 2007 In Burlington. Some thought domestic, while others said Call Duck, Wood Duck, and Mandarin. After sending the link to my photos to Call Duck breeders Associations in the USA and U.K. it seems that the mysterious duck is a White Female Mandarin. Obviously and escaped female leucistic Mandarin. I would like to thank Mark Cranford at the OFO for informing me of the show at the Royal Winter Fair this week, which may be where the bird escaped from. Hopefully it can survive on its own.
