hi everyone, great suggestions, especially the dog coats/blankets.

Beth in Oregon sent me this picture and it looks like a good idea.

I use WeathaBeeta dog blankets on lambs and sheep as needed THere are
some very large sized dog blankets that would fit an adult BB. They
are modeled after their brand of horse blankets. While they are
weather proof and warm, there is a danger with them for lambs... lambs
can get their legs caught in the chest area and be stuck... maybe
choke. But in a pinch I use them on lambs. If they only need a bit of
warmth, I use dog sweaters because they have holes for the front legs
and fit more snugly. Shouldn't have any trouble with an adult getting
stuck.

I'd love to hear how you did it.

You can get a polar fleece vest, or some kind of vest, from goodwill, for a few
dollars. Mens or childs depending on his size. Put it on backwards, and with
the zipper on the animals back, zip it up. If it is too large around the waist
area, might try some duct tape.

In northern california, we had a couple of freak weeks where we hit
around 79*F in the daytime, and still got frost in the morning. Now
it's raining and there's also a cold front with frosty mornings.

Marley my oldest sire has prematurely shed almost all his winter coat
already and we are still having freezing mornings around here. He
barely has 1/2" long hair on 90% of his body. A couple weeks ago he
had a few small bald spots which grew in.

They are predicting light snow in the San Francisco area valley for
the first time in decades tonite.

Has anyone ever successfully made a horse-blanket kind of poncho thing
for a blackbelly before?

I'd love to hear how you did it.

Michael, have you considered a heat lamp? If you have power out to
the ram shed, it would be my first option.

Alternatively, you might see what you could do for him using an old
size XXX sweatshirt. You would need to keep it tucked up out of the
way of his urine stream. I tried it with my dog and he hated it.
