Re: [Blackbelly] Horse-blanket for a ram?
hi everyone, great suggestions, especially the dog coats/blankets. Beth in Oregon sent me this picture and it looks like a good idea. http://mwsmith.smugmug.com/Animals/RamsSept2010/13988192_MQs45#1200153151_qcKAB-A-LB -Michael, Perino Ranch Blackbellies. I use WeathaBeeta dog blankets on lambs and sheep as needed THere are some very large sized dog blankets that would fit an adult BB. They are modeled after their brand of horse blankets. While they are weather proof and warm, there is a danger with them for lambs... lambs can get their legs caught in the chest area and be stuck... maybe choke. But in a pinch I use them on lambs. If they only need a bit of warmth, I use dog sweaters because they have holes for the front legs and fit more snugly. Shouldn't have any trouble with an adult getting stuck. You can get a polar fleece vest, or some kind of vest, from goodwill, for a few dollars. Mens or childs depending on his size. Put it on backwards, and with the zipper on the animals back, zip it up. If it is too large around the waist area, might try some duct tape. Liz Radi --- mwsmotorspo...@gmail.com wrote: From: Michael Smith To: blackbelly Subject: [Blackbelly] Horse-blanket for a ram? Michael, have you considered a heat lamp? If you have power out to the ram shed, it would be my first option. Alternatively, you might see what you could do for him using an old size XXX sweatshirt. You would need to keep it tucked up out of the way of his urine stream. I tried it with my dog and he hated it.
