Re: [Blind-Computing] strange e mail

2007-09-12 Thread Ricque
Hi Arya,
Yes, it may be possible to send a message that way, but since I have never
tried it, I can't tell
you for sure.
I am guessing that either you read the body of the message in the preview
payne, or you opened it.
If you have already opened the message, it's a little late to ask.
If the message itself contained a virus, than opening the message would let the
virus execute.
Replying to such a message, only sets you up for more problems.
Whenever you recieve a message from someone you don't know, or one that is
questionable, the only
thing to do with it, is delete it.
If you are running an anti-virus program,
then you should use it to scan your incoming messages, or save the message to
another location on
your hard drive, and scan it for viruses.
If you are not sure what you have done,
then your best course of action is this:
1. Update all of your security software.
This incluedes anti-virus, anti-spy, firewall and anti-adware.
Make sure to re-boot the computer after the updates are complete.
2. Physically disconnect from the internet.
3. Use a utility to clean your machine of junk such as temporary files,
temporary internet files and
cookies.
4. Empty the recycle bin.
5. Useing one program at a time,
scan for viruses, spyware and adware.
6. When all of these operations are complete, reconnect to the internet.
HTH,
Richard Justice

Re: [Blind-Computing] strange e mail

2007-09-12 Thread Tony Hernandez
Hi.

That email has no from or subject because the person probably used a
unix-based utility like sendmail to send the email as part of their
automated spam campaign. They want people to open them in the hopes that
the person who does so has their email client set to view emails in html
rather than plain text. This is because, in these kinds of emails, there is
code that sends a call to a server that let's the spammer know that the
email has been open. Then the spammer knows that they have a live one, and
proceed to send the real spam. So don't open those emails; just delete
them. Hope this helps.

I am using Jaws 8, XP and am curious about changing voices due to color, if
it can be done. I have the on line bible, not the free download but I
purchased it. It has the authorized version but also a authorized version in
a red letter edition. they are both the same Bible but the red version is
like a lot of the King james Bibles, having some words in red ink. Is their
a way to have Jaws say the words that are in red in a different voice?

I am using Jaws 8, XP and am curious about changing voices due to color, if
it can be done. I have the on line bible, not the free download but I
purchased it. It has the authorized version but also a authorized version in
a red letter edition. they are both the same Bible but the red version is
like a lot of the King james Bibles, having some words in red ink. Is their
a way to have Jaws say the words that are in red in a different voice?

Hi
Yes, she does have a screen where one has to select the user. I haven't
figured out how to over come this one yet. Thankfully I do now have JAWS
installed. It did take more sighted help though.

Does she have a logon screen set up on her computer? If not, it is
 probably
wanting to install the video intercept.
Reboot and do an alt d, then the letter I and press enter.
Now do an an alt f4 and restart your PC.

 Hi
I am needing to install JAWS on my sisters laptop. When I tried to
install it all seemed to go well but then the sighted person helping me
 said
that JAWS wanted to have the system reboot. Now, they left and apparently
the laptop is trying to reboot but there is no JAWS. and I think it is
 stuck
on some type of screen that is requesting a response from me. Now what do
 I
 do? Thanks in advance.

[Blind-Computing] Getting laptop to access internet

2007-09-12 Thread torgersonenator
Hi
I finally have JAWS installed on the laptop. So, this morning I go and do
the windows update and it had 35 updates to do. So, I gladly installed them
all. Yes, even the IE 7 update. The installation went well but now I can not
access the internet through the LAN connection. I haven't set up any dial up
connect to test that but I am in a fix with out internet access. I need the
laptop for going on a trip. Any ideas on how to get connected to the internet
would be appreciated!

[Blind-Computing] MSN Messenger sounds are gone

2007-09-12 Thread Chris Feist
Hi all. I just turned on my computer, and it wouldn't let me log on with
MSN Messenger. It insisted that I install Windows Live Messenger. So, I
did. But now I find I don't like the sounds, such as when a message comes
in. It's too loud and abrupt. I'd prefer to put back the sounds that I had
with the previous version of MSN, but I can't find them. did they get
deleted once I installed Windows Live Messenger? If so, is there a way I
can get them again so I can put them in? I hate change. Thanks.
