Hi, jason
quite simple. go to the deleted items folder, locate your email, without
opening it, go to the edit menu, find move to folder and press enter. then
the list of your mail boxes will appear. choose the inbox and press enter.

Hi,
When I go to my gmail account online there is a link that says "show
search
options". I just do a Jaws search for it. Then It gives you choices of
"To",

"From" and a checkbox for attachments.

Also, depending on which mail client you are using to download the gmail
to

there is usually a setting about not downloading messages over a certain
size that you can set in the options section.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] A gmail Question

Hi friends;
not sure if this question was covered before, but could someone please
help
me. I have a dial-up connection and belong to several mailing lists.
Lately,

one of them have been sending attachments and I keep geting the timeout
error in Outlook Express. I tried adjusting the time in the accounts menu
to

no avail.
What I would like to do is search my inbox online for the messages that
contains the attachments and delete or download them manually.
I tried typing several search strings in the search message box, but came
up

empty handed.
Could someone provide some pointers, probably a search string that has
worked where I could go on the server and search for those large messages.
Thanks in advance for any help that is offered.

Try this instead. Hold down the control key. And as you arrow down, tap
the space bar on all the messages you want to move. Then once you've
selected all the messages, hit control shift V and move them wherever you

[Blind-Computing] Why are document settings changing?

2009-02-19 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi All,

Has anybody else run into this problem? I like to have my settings for my
documents set in print view and the zoom set at 75%. After a few days I
will go back to particular documents in My Documents, open a document, go to
the view menu and the settings are changed to normal view and the zoom will
be at 100 or 200%. I will make the corrections and save them then, I can go
back to the same documents a few days later and the settings have changed.
Can anybody tell me why this is happening or what is making this happen? I
have been told that this is not a Jaws problem by Freedom Scientific's tech
support and as you all know the zoom setting effects the way Jaws reads. I
am running Xp SP3/Office 2002 home, Jaws 8, 9, & 10 latest. All advice and
information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.

this and
it is quite Jaws and Window-Eyes friendly.
Hope this helps.

Hi folks,

Since this is now happening on all 3 of my desktops, 2 of which are XP pro and
the other a Vista Home Premium, and also on my laptop XP pro, I'm willing to
bet this is due to some of Microsoft's brilliant Windows updates. All 4 of

  Michael,

Try this instead. Hold down the control key. And as you arrow down, tap
the space bar on all the messages you want to move. Then once you've
selected all the messages, hit control shift V and move them wherever you
  want to put them.

Don't believe it. For an agency to by anyone screen reading software is a

Re: [Blind-Computing] Window Eyes Dilemma

2009-02-19 Thread Gerald Levy

Really? I thought you blokes in the UK were so much more progressive than
us here in the states. But, yes, state rehab agencies will cover the cost
of talking computers and other adaptive equipment if an eligible blind
person needs it to pursue educational or vocational goals. It varies from
state to state, and not everyone qualifies for such government largesse.

Your best course of action would be to decide which of the two screen
readers you want to keep, and get rid of the other one. Why do you need
both JAWS and Window Eyes on the same system? I am surprised that a
state rehab agency would spend almost $2000 of taxpayer money on two
screen readers for the same system, when one would be perfectly adequate.
No wonder there's an economic crisis in this country. If you need a
back-up screen reader to either JAWS or Window Eyes, you might consider
NVDA, which is free and pretty usable.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Window Eyes Dilemma

Hello To All,

Obviously, I was hoping someone on this list might be able to assist me.
I am currently setting up a brand new Dell Optiplex Desktop system. It
is a Vista Home Premium 32 bit system and as of yet, there is no
antivirus installed. I have also disabled UAC until I get all the
software installed. And therein lies the rub: I've successfully
installed JAWS 10, MAGic 11, and ZoomText 9.4, but when I tried
installing Window Eyes 7.01, there is some sort of conflict. By the
way, this is not my system, the State rehabilitation agency purchased it
for one of their consumers and I am simply expected to set it up. I
admit I am a JAWS user so I enlisted Window Eyes tech support to assist
me in the installation. One of their agents, whose name I prefer not to
mention, helped me make the correct choices during the installation
process. Yet after the installation was complete and the system was
rebooted, all there was on the screen was black with the white mouse
pointer in the center of the
screen. I've already stated that I am a JAWS user so to say that I am
visually impaired would be redundant. Still, I have enough remaining
vision to make the previous observation. When I asked the GW Micro tech
support to comment on the problem, the only thing he had to offer was
that it may be a video driver issue and the drivers may need to be
updated. I do not understand how this could be the case as the system
is brand spanking new with an upgraded ATI HD 2400 Pro Graphics card. I
asked whether there were any known issues with having so many other
assistive technologies installed on one computer or if there was a
particular order in which they needed to be installed. The answer was
no to both questions.

Fortunately, before installing any software, I create System Restore
points. So, with sighted assistance, I booted into safe mode and put
the system back to before the Window Eyes installation and all was well.
I then called GW Micro tech support again and spoke with another tech.
I told him of my experience and all he had to add was that there was a
conflict. Duh! Unfortunately, they offered no further assistance.

So, what I would like to know is, does anyone have any ideas of which
course of action I should follow next. I may, just for the heck of it,
update the graphics card driver, but if that does not work, what then?
In fact, I have never yet had to update a video card driver so I am not
even sure of the process though I imagine I can figure that one out.
But if anyone would like to provide some advice, I would be very
grateful.

Sorry for the long post.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Demonoid accessible?

2009-02-19 Thread Elaine

hi

I registered with them when they had open invitations, don't remember any
problems with that.

I am surprised you are having problems with the voice capture as once you
register, about every 4 or maybe 5th time you download a link it goes to
that voice capture. I've never had any problems with that neither as I
download the file and I play it through winamp.

once you input the text in to the box it then allows you to download the
file.

just thought I'd mention this.

Thanks

I have already tried Webvisum on the page. The problem is that the offer

[Blind-Computing] selecting messages In OE

2009-02-19 Thread Michael Amaro
Hello Listers,
On my desktop PC, when in OE I can select messages to move to various folders.
This I do by holding down the shift key and up or down arrow. Depending on
what I am selecting. I hear for example Michael computer question. Computer
question being the subject line. How ever on my laptop If I want to select
messages. All I hear is Michael instead of hearing the name as well as the
subjectline. So my question is: How Can I get my OE on my laptop to voice the
name as well as all or part of the subjectline? When selecting messages. On
my desktop I'm running XP home and jaws. On my laptop I run XP pro and jaws.
Can some one please help? Thanks
Michael

Are there any settings within Firefox 3.0.6 that I need to change in order
for it to work much better with JAWS 10? Not sure if I need to make any
changes but wants to be sure. I will check Freedom Scientific's website too.

[Blind-Computing] RDP and Sound

2009-02-19 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hello all,
My friend Paul and I tried to RDP onto his server. I have Vista whilst he
has Server 2003. He enabled the audio service, but I didn't get any sound at
my end. I was using the Remote Desktop Connection program that comes with
Vista. Does anyone know how I can get sound routed from a server to a host?
I know it's possible but we're both not sure how. All help would be greatly
appreciated.

I would grab the Dell quickly. It sounds like a great deal. My Dell has
only 2 gig of ram but I usually find that enough to run many programs at
the
same time so 4 gig would be heaven. 250 gig hard drive is pretty
good,too.

I only have 125 so keep all my talking books and such on an external hard
drive instead. I got my Dell over a year ago and still love it. I have
also used Acer and Hewlit Packard. The Dell comes with a regular Ethernet
port as well as the wireless capability. The feature I like best about my
Dell is the manual switch that can turn off the wireless access so I feel
safer leaving it on during the night to do the virus scans and backups and
such.
I always carry an external keyboard with me when I travel because I am too
lazy to learn the laptop keyboard. I also like being able to put the
external keyboard on the lower level of the desk to make it easier on my
back since I use it for hours at a time.
To sign on to the Internet with wireless is easy or automatic after the
first time you do it in a new location. I do have to admit that Dell has
its

own system of signing on the first time that is more difficult than just
using the regular "Connect to" in the Windows operating system. I think
that I just need to learn exactly what to do to get connected. Dell does
give you a year of excellent support and warranty but even though I had
them guide me through connecting to my wireless network I forgot to make
notes for the future.
In fact if any other Dell users would give me the step by step
instructions

I would be grateful. I would love to be able to use the regular Windows
wireless connection dialog since it is so easy.
I do know it is not recommended now to sit a laptop directly on your lap
to
use it without something to raise it up and allow the fan vents to
function

properly.

As others have said, the biggest thing to get used to on a laptop is the
keyboard.
JAWS hotkey commands can be different as well.
I get around that by using an external keyboard, though I can use the one
on

the laptop if necessary.
I like my Toshiba with built-in wireless capability, though wireless cards
can be purchased if not built in.
You can piggy-back on other people's wireless connections, but for
security

sake, it's best to have your own Internet provider.
Some providers have wireless-capable modems, but if not, a routers can be

The wireless signal will vary depending on Internet speed, wireless card

That Dell sounds too good to be true.
Good luck.

Hi,
When I go to my gmail account online there is a link that says "show search
options". I just do a Jaws search for it. Then It gives you choices of "To",
"From" and a checkbox for attachments.

Also, depending on which mail client you are using to download the gmail to
there is usually a setting about not downloading messages over a certain
size that you can set in the options section.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] A gmail Question

Hi friends;
not sure if this question was covered before, but could someone please help
me. I have a dial-up connection and belong to several mailing lists. Lately,
one of them have been sending attachments and I keep geting the timeout
error in Outlook Express. I tried adjusting the time in the accounts menu to
no avail.
What I would like to do is search my inbox online for the messages that
contains the attachments and delete or download them manually.
I tried typing several search strings in the search message box, but came up
empty handed.
Could someone provide some pointers, probably a search string that has
worked where I could go on the server and search for those large messages.
Thanks in advance for any help that is offered.

Hi,
It is still possible that after removing JFW, that WE won't work with that
driver anyway.
The DCM technology is supposed to make the drivers play nice and usually
does.
I'd first (as previously suggested) go to the manufacturer's site and get
the latest & greatest driver and see if that solves the problem.
If not, trying a compatible driver through the "update driver" aplet may be
the ticket.

Your best course of action would be to decide which of the two screen
readers you want to keep, and get rid of the other one. Why do you need
both JAWS and Window Eyes on the same system? I am surprised that a state
rehab agency would spend almost $2000 of taxpayer money on two screen
readers for the same system, when one would be perfectly adequate. No wonder

there's an economic crisis in this country. If you need a back-up screen

Another option would be to buy the program Omnipage. I don't have it, but a
friend does. It costs around $150. Still not cheap, but cheaper than the
nearly $1,000 for Open book. And Omnipage uses Jaws key commands, so there
nothing new to learn.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Scanning and saving a document to my computer

2009-02-19 Thread Gerald Levy

Hi Lisa,

I have the same Open Book and Word versions as you. The Scan for Open Book
feature is not available in Word 2007 unless you upgrade to Open Book 8.
But there's still an easy way you can scan the letter and save it as a Word
document. Follow these steps:

1. Scan the letter using Open Book as you normally would.
2. Go to the Open Book File menu, arrow down to Save As and hit Enter.
3. Type a name for the file you are about to save into the File Name edit
field.
4. Tab to the Files of Type combo box and arrow down three times to
"WordWin6,7,8*.doc" This will assign the .doc file extension to your file
so that it can be opened as a Word document.
5. Now tab to the Look In combo box and arrow up to Desktop. Tab once to My
Documents,select it and hit Enter.
6. Finally, tab to the Save button and hit Space. Your letter will be saved
in My Documents as a Word file which can be opened in Word using the normal
Control-O command, or by selecting it from My Documents. HTH.

Again, this will work only if you use Open Book 7 with Word 2003. If you
use Word 2007, you need to upgrade to Open Book 8 to get the Scan with Open
Book feature for Word.

Hi Devona,

What I do is,
1. Open Word.
2. Place the document I want scanned onto scanner.
3. Press alt + F for file menu.
4. Arrow down to scan with Open Book and press enter or just press the
letter " K " after opening the file menu.
If there are more than 1 pages to the document you are scanning you scan
them individually and all the pages will go into the same Word document.
Once you press the letter "k" or press enter on scan with open book you
will
hear Open Book startup but, don't worry this is normal. After you are
done

scanning your document alt tab to Open Book and exit the program. You
should go right back to the Word document and everything you have just
scanned will be in that Word doc. I am running XP, Office Home 2002 with
Jaws 8, 9, & 10 latest versions. These directions may not be perfect but,
they should get you headed in the right direction. Take care.

Hello there;

ok, I'm able to scan a document, from Microsoft Office2007, using
Kurzweil,

so, I assume, this can be done with Openbook.

the steps are;

1, open MSWord.

2, press the alt-key, you should hear, "ribbon toolbar".

3, right arrow until you hear, "add-ins",

4, now tab one time, you should hear, "openbook scan and recognize", in my
case I hear, "kurzweil scan and recognize".

hear you could press, enter, or the spacebar.
also, if you tab once, you should hear, "openbook options, in my case, I
hear, Kurzweil options. again, enter or the spacebar will activate, where
you can make some changes.

I am not totally sure, if openbook will show, however, I'm assuming, that,
whatever the default OCR program is, will show up.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Window Eyes Dilemma

2009-02-19 Thread Gerald Levy

Your best course of action would be to decide which of the two screen
readers you want to keep, and get rid of the other one. Why do you need
both JAWS and Window Eyes on the same system? I am surprised that a state
rehab agency would spend almost $2000 of taxpayer money on two screen
readers for the same system, when one would be perfectly adequate. No wonder
there's an economic crisis in this country. If you need a back-up screen
reader to either JAWS or Window Eyes, you might consider NVDA, which is free
and pretty usable.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Window Eyes Dilemma

Hello To All,

Obviously, I was hoping someone on this list might be able to assist me.
I am currently setting up a brand new Dell Optiplex Desktop system. It is
a Vista Home Premium 32 bit system and as of yet, there is no antivirus
installed. I have also disabled UAC until I get all the software
installed. And therein lies the rub: I've successfully installed JAWS 10,
MAGic 11, and ZoomText 9.4, but when I tried installing Window Eyes 7.01,
there is some sort of conflict. By the way, this is not my system, the
State rehabilitation agency purchased it for one of their consumers and I
am simply expected to set it up. I admit I am a JAWS user so I enlisted
Window Eyes tech support to assist me in the installation. One of their
agents, whose name I prefer not to mention, helped me make the correct
choices during the installation process. Yet after the installation was
complete and the system was rebooted, all there was on the screen was
black with the white mouse pointer in the center of the
screen. I've already stated that I am a JAWS user so to say that I am
visually impaired would be redundant. Still, I have enough remaining
vision to make the previous observation. When I asked the GW Micro tech
support to comment on the problem, the only thing he had to offer was that
it may be a video driver issue and the drivers may need to be updated. I
do not understand how this could be the case as the system is brand
spanking new with an upgraded ATI HD 2400 Pro Graphics card. I asked
whether there were any known issues with having so many other assistive
technologies installed on one computer or if there was a particular order
in which they needed to be installed. The answer was no to both
questions.

Fortunately, before installing any software, I create System Restore
points. So, with sighted assistance, I booted into safe mode and put the
system back to before the Window Eyes installation and all was well. I
then called GW Micro tech support again and spoke with another tech. I
told him of my experience and all he had to add was that there was a
conflict. Duh! Unfortunately, they offered no further assistance.

So, what I would like to know is, does anyone have any ideas of which
course of action I should follow next. I may, just for the heck of it,
update the graphics card driver, but if that does not work, what then? In
fact, I have never yet had to update a video card driver so I am not even
sure of the process though I imagine I can figure that one out. But if
anyone would like to provide some advice, I would be very grateful.

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks in advance,

Mauricio

I noticed that when I scan a document on my vista system that I rarely get
the page numbers included in my document. Since I am scanning text books it is
important to get the page numbers. What can I do to get the scanner, vista, and
or computer to include the page numbers? I am feeling frustrated. I have tried
three OCR programs with the same results.
 I would appreciate any advice.

Hi Lisa,

I don't have any ideas about using Microsoft for scanning, but I do use
another program that is extremely easy to use.

I think other folks have talked about it on this list, some like it, some
don't. I happen to love it.

It's called Text Cloner Pro and you can find it at:

http://www.readingmadeez.com/home.html

You hit one button to scan, and it automatically puts it into a .doc format.
You can then save it just as you would a normal Microsoft document. And
unlike Open Book, it is designed specifically to work with JAWS. So, no
having to turn JAWS off to use the program's internal voice.

I think the program cost about $100. Much less then Open Book. Again, I love
it, but maybe some others on the list that have tried it can give you their
opinion.

I use it almost every day to scan mail, faxes, and things like that. Oh, and
it has a copy feature also. So if you need to make a copy of something, it
will print it out on your printer. It's just like using a copier machine.

This may not be something you are interested in, but I thought I'd throw it
out there for the info.

Good luck.
