No, that depends on whether you have your harddrive partioned. If you have
your operating system on a separate partition by itself, then you can
reinstall into that and it will not take your other stuff.

Hi,

I know sometimes I have had about 60 icons on my desktop so I move most of
them to certain folders so the desktop isn't so cluttered.

Re: [Blind-Computing] TURNING OFF THE DESKTOP CLEAN UP WIZARD

2009-07-08 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi Linda,
Some people call those pages, some call them tabs because visually it's a
multi-page dialog with tabs to click on to switch pages, kind of like one of
those old tabbed books with the tabs at the top as if the book's spine was
at the bottom of the screen.
Control plus tab does the change page trick though.

Re: [Blind-Computing] TURNING OFF THE DESKTOP CLEAN UP WIZARD

2009-07-08 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Linda,

These steps do work for XP Home. XP Home is the operating system I am
running. After you open the display folder in the control panel you will
land on the " Themes " tab. Control tab 1 time to land on the " Desktop "
tab. Now tab down 4 times to the customize desktop button and press the
space bar. When this dialogue box opens, you will be on the General page.
Now tab down 4 times and there should be a check box to run the clean up
wizard or not. If you don't want the wizard to run uncheck the box and tab
to okay and press enter. Now tab to okay and press enter again and you're
done. Hope this helps. Take care.

In xp you can get to it by going into the desktop properties, than with alt
+Tab until you get to desktop, then tab until you hear customise desktop.
In there should be an option to turn the assistant on and off.

How do you do this in windows xp home edition? I know there is a thing to
customize desktop because I accidently got into it but I don't remember how
I did it. There was a show desktop I think and then a customize desktop or
something. That wizzard is a pain where the sun don't shine.

Hi
It seems to me that there is a thumb drive version of SA To Go. Does
anyone have any experience with this? Is it dependant on the registration
on the host computer or is it an independent program? It would be
wonderful to have a thumb drive version that was truly independent from
any local computer licensing troubles.

You can only upgrade from Vista. Not even 7 RC will support the upgrade.
XP certainly doesn't. In those situations do a clean install.

[Blind-Computing] External DVD/CD burner questions

2009-07-08 Thread perry
Greetings,
I am shopping for an external DVD/CD burner. Besides burn and read speeds
what other considerations should be investigated? Are all USB burners
compatible with all reasonably current PCs? What about externally powered
versus powered through the USB port?

Thank you for all responses

In xp you can get to it by going into the desktop properties, than with alt
+Tab until you get to desktop, then tab until you hear customise desktop.
In there should be an option to turn the assistant on and off.

I did it. There was a show desktop I think and then a customize desktop or

Hi,

You have to download the version of jaws for thumb drives on their web
site. Also, there are specific instructions on how to install the program
and detailed instructions on the video manager so you should read them
directions before proceeding. I am not sure if you have to use a separate
key if you use both the thumb drive version and the regular jaws 10.

When using outlook 2007 here at work, it seems that as long as jaws 10 is
actually running, I will not hear the new mail notification sound when new
emails arrive in the inbox.

Was just wondering if this would be specific to the machine/hardware
configuration, or whether it's something to do with outlook 2007 itsself,
but maybe it's just to do with sound channels or something, but jaws and
all other sounds on this machine seem to work fine, including other

sounds like error sounds etc., so really seems like it's just outlook 2007
itsself causing the problem.
