The download link that's labeled german only runs in german for around the

Hello all,
I just want to tell you about an interesting new screen reader
 made by
German company Baum. It's called Cobra (I know, it's named
 after a snake,
hahaha). Joking aside, it contains lots of interesting and
 inovative
features, such as the ability to capture the screen and perform
 on the fly
OCR. No other screen reader I know does this. You can download
 it, and try
it as a 30 minute reboot situation from www.baum.com. What's
 interesting
though is that although a reboot is necessary to run the 30
 minute
demonstraiton again, Cobra actually will still speak, but will
 interrupt and
remind you that the demo has expired. Again no other screen
 reader does
  this.
  Enjoy!

Yes, it's a 30 minute demo, and will start giving audio reminders that
the demo has expired after that. What's unique is that it doesn't stop
working.

Hi, Everyone,

A friend of mine who lives in maine and I are having an email issue. I can
send her emails from my verizon account but when she wants to send emails
to me, I can't receive them at this account. I really don't like using web
mail to send email but that's what I'm forced to do in this case. I have
to read her emails from my gmail account. We both checked our settings in
outlook express and neither of our email addresses are blocked. I even
reinstalled windows messenger thinking that might solve the problem but
that hasn't helped either.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

There's a free screen reader called NVDA which your friend can get from

http://www.nvda-project.org.

There's another one called thunder which he can get from

http://www.screenreader.net.

NVDA is more powerful than thunder and a lot of the keystrokes are very similar
to Jaws.

Hope this helps.

[Blind-Computing] DROP BOX

2010-07-10 Thread Josh
Blind Computing members,
I have two questions about Drop Box. When you upload a document to Drop Box is
it there indefinitely until you decide to take it out of your drop box account
or is there a time frame? Question 2 if it is uploaded to Drop Box can you
delete the file (s) off your hard drive?

Re: [Blind-Computing] Tinny Jaws from a Laptop

2010-07-10 Thread Chris Feist
I'm not sure if it's as bad for me as it is for you, but at full volume on
my Dell lap top JAWS sounds pretty tinny and is not very loud at all. Music
sounds ok, but not fantastic. It may just be the way it is, unless someone
else knows of a fix for you... a booster for JAWS or something. Maybe
there's a bass boost somewhere? I think my lap top has a bass boost
somewhere that helped me a little. I forget. It was two years ago when
first set up. Anyway, I almost always use ear buds rather than struggle to
hear JAWS via the speakers.

Re: [Blind-Computing] DROP BOX

2010-07-10 Thread Mike Barbara Arcadia
Hi Josh;

When you have a file in your Dropbox account it can be left there
indefinitely. You may not want to do that because in the free account you
only have 2 GB of space and leaving files in there will take away from your
available useable space. It would be best to delete the files after you or
whomever you put the files there for have downloaded them.

If you are talking about deleting the files out of the My Dropbox folder on
your harddrive, yes they will be deleted from your Dropbox in the sky, so to
speak. If you have downloaded a files / files from your Dropbox and placed
them / saved them somewhere on your computer outside of your Dropbox folder
those can be deleted but, only if they are outside of the Dropbox folder.
Anything deleted inside the Public / Photo folders will be deleted and not
be accessible to others.

I hope that I haven't butchered the hell out of this explanation. If I have
made this confusing will someone jump in and bail me out, please! Hope this
helps. Take care.

All you should have to do is enter on new sub menu and then account. It
should be able to find the settings you need and all you have to do is
enter user name and password. user name being email address.

Yes you are correct. Basically what I do is just cut the file or files
and move them to where I want them. The person you are sharing it with
will get a notification that the file has been removed.

Power-line technology has been around for some time,
and can be used with telephones, ethernet and even speakers.
You are simply using the existing wiring in your home to carry the data
 stream
from a router or such device to another device plugged into an outlet in
 another area of the home.
The devices used to transmit the signal thru the electrical wires are
 called

 bridges,
and a typivcal setup would be as follows:
computer A, is connected to a router by an ethernet cable.
another cable is connected to the router and a network bridge, which is
 plugged into an electrical outlet.
 computer B,
is connected to another bridge in another location, which is plugged into
 a
 standard electrical outlet.
Data is transferred from one device to another using the house wiring
instead of making long runs of ethernet cable.
A person would have to research the technology to get more specific info.
These days, wireless options are less expensive and easier to setup.

 Powerline Networking

A powerline network relies on a network that all homes already include
 by

default, the power network. The electrical system in your home consists
of one or more fuse boxes and copper wiring that runs between each power
outlet to give your electronics the current they require to operate. A
powerline network simply taps into this existing network and uses the
copper wiring to pass data bits between powerline network adapters.
Powerline adapters utilize a technology called OFDM (orthogonal
frequency-division multiplexing), which enables the copper wiring to
carry multiple data streams even while powering appliances and devices
throughout your home. The latest devices also work independent of line
voltage and current frequency to provide a consistent and reliable
 networking experience.
This Internet access solution makes a lot of sense because there's
 always

an outlet near the computer and another outlet near the Internet-enabled
devices you'll likely be using. And if you can plug in a power adapter
and an Ethernet cable, you can install and configure a powerline network
 yourself in minutes.

of one or more fuse boxes and copper wiring that runs between each
power

outlet to give your electronics the current they require to operate. A
powerline network simply taps into this existing network and uses the
copper wiring to pass data bits between powerline network adapters.
This Internet access solution makes a lot of sense because there's
always

an outlet near the computer and another outlet near the
Internet-enabled

devices you'll likely be using. And if you can plug in a power adapter
and an Ethernet cable, you can install and configure a powerline
network

yourself in minutes.

[Blind-Computing] deleting google account

2010-07-10 Thread ROSEMARIE CHAVARRIA
Hi, everyone,

I am still trying to delete my gmail account but I'm not having much luck.
Would it be easier just to delete the entire account since I really don't use
it? Google's just my home page.

Thanks very much for your help in advance.

Rosemarie
