Re: [Blind-Computing] outlook express help

2010-10-04 Thread Jacob Kruger

Account details, lots of old email messages, contact information?

Simplest one that's meant to (but doesn't always)work is the settings
transfer wizard: Start menu, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Files and
Settings Transfer Wizard, and it just asks you if this is the target, or
source machine, how you want to transfer the info, etc., but I've had it
bomb out on me a few times, but not always, and, for example, I think you'd
still need to provide email account passwords the first time you tried a
send/receive on the new machine.

What I generally do is export messages to outlook 2003, copy it's data files
over to new machine and import them back into outlook express, but I
manually create my own email accounts, and use the windows address book,
file menu, save as, to copy contacts across, and, this is generally just a
process I use as a form of backup as well.

Stay well

Re: [Blind-Computing] concerning indexing in the system tray

2010-10-04 Thread Andre Williams
I understand Rick's personal reason for not wanting to use the search index,
but it only takes up a very small amount of system processes and a very small
amount of ram. In fact, when your computer is busy doing other things it shuts
off completely. The index only runs when there is something to be indexed like
when you create a new file. If you do not create thousands of files a day then
you won't feel it at all, nothing. the indexer takes about 32 KB of ram. This
is only about 3% of a floppy disk. Believe me, the resources used up are
negligible. These calculations are made based on an index of 160,000 items,
which is probably much bigger than most. I don't feel a hit on my processor at
all, nor have I ever had a crash due to the indexing. I'm sure you've never
heard of people using netbooks having these problems either. Netbooks are much
weaker but the indexer still runs without a problem.

[Blind-Computing] Sound cards not working after reboot

2010-10-04 Thread Frank Ventura
Hi all, I have an interesting problem that I have not run across before.
I am trying to get audio (sound) output from our Dell PE 840 running
Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise. I have tried a myriad of USB sound cards all
with the same result. If I plug in a sound card that I have never used
before into the Dell it will start working and I can get Narrator to
work fine. Now if I reboot the computer and try that same USB sound card
it won't work again and never will. This is the same results as with all
sound cards I have tried. I have heard something about Win 2k8 not allow
the loading of non signed drivers at boot up. Is this true and how can
it be fixed? If not does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do to
make this work? I am really pulling my hair out on this one.

Hi Matt,
I missed a step in my previous post.
control panel, administrative tools, services, and then tab once to move you
from the tree-view to the list view,

and then you can navigate to the indexing service by first letter.
Once you have it selected, press enter to open the properties.
Tab, and you will come to the place where you can set it to manual or
disable.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] accessible cell phones

Hello everyone,

I've seen discussions on cell phones that are accessible to the blind on
here before; but never really paid attention to the thread. I thought my
little "old" cell phone was good enough for me. It never dawned on me
that

I might someday lose my phone and need a new one. Well, it's happened. I
lost it and am just lost without a cell phone. I'm desperate. Since I
need

to get a phone, I figured I might as well take the plunge and jump on
into

modern times and get a phone that is more accessible then what I had.

Can anyone tell me a really good phone that has screen reading capability
(like JAWS), and is fairly easy to use. I am with A T and T. I think I
remember seeing once on here something about software called "Talks". Is
that like JAWS. I don't know at all what will work. I'd like to be able
to

go ahead and use the internet on it, maybe text and all the stuff that
you

young kids do here in the United States.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ken

If you are with a tnt try to contact their special needs section. They
have accessible phones set aside for blind users. I have not talked to
them in a few years but the program is probably still in place.

these

choices. I am running XPSP3 Home & Jaws 10 latest. Take care.

In my opinion, for the little difference in time accessing a file, the
indexing service is not worth the resources it uses.

Hi Frank.
It works like a remote desktop/terminal services session. From when I
used XP Mode:
1. To switch from full screen to window mode, press ctrl+alt+left arrow
twice.
2. As it is running like a Remote Desktop/Terminal Services session,
shutting down XP Mode can't be done in the usual way. Instead you choose
an option from the Windows Virtual PC toolbar, accessed with
ctrl+alt+left arrow.
Hope these help.

If you are with a tnt try to contact their special needs section. They have
accessible phones set aside for blind users. I have not talked to them in a
few years but the program is probably still in place.

Hello everyone,

I've seen discussions on cell phones that are accessible to the blind on
here before; but never really paid attention to the thread. I thought my
little "old" cell phone was good enough for me. It never dawned on me that
I might someday lose my phone and need a new one. Well, it's happened. I
lost it and am just lost without a cell phone. I'm desperate. Since I need
to get a phone, I figured I might as well take the plunge and jump on into
modern times and get a phone that is more accessible then what I had.

Can anyone tell me a really good phone that has screen reading capability
(like JAWS), and is fairly easy to use. I am with A T and T. I think I
remember seeing once on here something about software called "Talks". Is
that like JAWS. I don't know at all what will work. I'd like to be able to
go ahead and use the internet on it, maybe text and all the stuff that you
young kids do here in the United States.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ken

I don't know which screen reader you are using,
but if you are using Jaws, while focused on one of these items, try pressing

Hello there;

do you have the status bar checked in OE?

alt+v=view,

L=layout,

now tab and make sure that status bar is checked, do this with the
spacebar,

tab okay, press enter.

as for your MSE,

have you tried restarting your computer, to see if it runs in your system

Re: [Blind-Computing] XP Mode revisited

2010-10-04 Thread chris hallsworth

No way for the same price. A good netbook can be had for about
$300. A notebook or laptop at $300 would either be an old
refurbished model with poor battery life and specs or a used model
being sold privately. I would estimate that there is about at least
a $200 price difference between netbooks and laptops with similar
features.

You can also use HJJoin to join these files. Just run it in a folder
