Yes, it's a free download but I can't find the voices. They're

[Blind-Computing] Windows Live Mail Update Is Impossible

2010-10-30 Thread Bill Gallik

   Well Gang,

I did some updates this morning and now have what I believe is the latest
version of Windows Live Mail.

My advice: stay the Hell away from this garbage. It's near impossible to
navigate if you're totally blind (I have no idea how it is if one has
sight).

Microsoft has completely changed the menus. I can't find the procedures to
change the order of items in message headers and this entire user interface
rework is nothing short of a load of . . . well, better keep it clean.

Chances are it will just install next time with no problem! You did not say
which version of Windows you are using. Here is one article from PC World,
mostly geared for XP. I do not expect that you will need this. It happens
most of the time on major updates like Service Paks.

Do you also have Firefox? If so try with that instead of IE; that should
work fine with no pop-ups. They switched the downloads to Sourceforge for
better statistics or so; it was explained on the NVDA support list.

[Blind-Computing] daily information

2010-10-30 Thread David Ferrin
Daily Tip:
Monitors Must Breathe

Never cover a monitor's ventilation holes. Doilies, sticky notes, cats, and
miniature horse blankets from your trip to New Mexico may be part of your work
area, but don't let them keep your CRT or LCD display from getting rid of
excess heat. Your monitor may also last longer if you blow canned air into its
ventilation grilles once in a while, just as you should do to the inside of
your PC.

  Daily Term:

A computer and a display screen that display information in public areas.
Kiosks can display simple rotating graphics or HTML (Hypertext Markup Language)
pages. More complicated, interactive kiosks allow a user to access the
information they want. Kiosks are used to provide information about a specific
location, to provide directions, or to provide countless other services to the
public. An ATM is a good example of a kiosk.
