Hi.

   Hello Rosemarie;
now that you have service pack3 installed;
you will need to validate your copy of windows.
you can do this through the system tray.

just enter on the you have 30 day to activate.
you then will have choice to do the activation on the internet.

once you have completed this.

you will need to get all the updates there should be quite a few.
note, however,

you will need to uncheck the box for IE8,

Well, the scripting language combined w/the video intercept. Look, as
bad as I hate video intercepts, sometimes they're just plain necessary
there aint no gettin' around it. I truly think that unless until
NVDA gets 1, they can never be a replacement for screenreaders like
jaws window-eyes because there are lots of applications that don't
expose their objects, NVDA, system access, etc., are just lost in
those circumstances.

[Blind-Computing] Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 Released

2010-12-19 Thread Don Marang
A new version of MSE is out of beta now. It can be downloaded at:

Watch for a line break in the long link. You may have to cut and paste into
Notepad, remove any newline characters, then cut and paste into your browser's
address bar.

I hear it is now cluttered with unneccessary graphics. However, the interface
seems to work identical from a screen reader perspective. There are a few
different and new options in the settings, such as limiting the processor at a
certain maximum percent. There are some deep differences. It now is closely
tied to other components, such as the Windows Firewall. I just installed it.
I will post back if there are any surprises or pitfalls.

Hi.
1. Open the Virtual Buffer Settings dialogue box with nvda+ctrl+b.
2. Tab to the use screen layout when supported check box.
3. Press space to uncheck the box.
4. Press enter.
5. Save the configuration with nvda+ctrl+c.
This will improve your web experience by providing the familiar linear

www.gumtree.com is the correct address and it will put you on the page for

There are hundreds of links on the page but if you try navigating by header
you will come to a For Sale (there is more than one), so to check what is
being sold after the letter h for header arrow down until you hear the list
of items for sale and if your category is not there try the next heading.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 Released

2010-12-19 Thread Andre Williams
Gerald. Not true at all. If you hit enter on the exe file it will actually
install right over the current version. You will then have to update it and
it is your typical updating procedure.
Chris' comment about his computer crashing did not happen to me.
In all honesty, there doesn't appear to be much difference in the interface
so if you were comfortable with version 1.0 then you will be comfortable
with version 2.0. In fact, you can go into the help menu/about and confirm
that 2.0 has installed successfully.

If one doesn't have the intel graphics media accelerator in the system

Every once in a while the screen somehow goes cockeyed, so it good to
know this, because it's hard to remember the hotkey to fix things.

I tried to fix it by the keyboard shortcut pressing Ctrl+Alt+the up

However, still its the same. Is there any other solution to correct

Thanks in advance.

Gerald. Not true at all. If you hit enter on the exe file it will actually
install right over the current version. You will then have to update it
and

it is your typical updating procedure.
Chris' comment about his computer crashing did not happen to me.
In all honesty, there doesn't appear to be much difference in the

so if you were comfortable with version 1.0 then you will be comfortable
with version 2.0. In fact, you can go into the help menu/about and confirm
that 2.0 has installed successfully.

No, just guessing,. The MS site does not explain how to upgrade from MSE
1.0 to 2.0. In fact, there is no reference to the version number at all on
the download site. But it seems to me that you would not be able to upgrade
MSE while it is still running. If anyone has already upgraded from MSE 1.0

   Hello Rosemarie;
now that you have service pack3 installed;
you will need to validate your copy of windows.
you can do this through the system tray.

just enter on the you have 30 day to activate.
you then will have choice to do the activation on the internet.

once you have completed this.

you will need to get all the updates there should be quite a few.
note, however,

you will need to uncheck the box for IE8,
since your using jaws5.exe.

hope this helps.

Do I just click on that in the system tray? There's a button that says
thirty days to activate windows. or something like that.

Gerald. Not true at all. If you hit enter on the exe file it will
actually

install right over the current version. You will then have to update it
and
it is your typical updating procedure.
Chris' comment about his computer crashing did not happen to me.
In all honesty, there doesn't appear to be much difference in the
interface
so if you were comfortable with version 1.0 then you will be comfortable
with version 2.0. In fact, you can go into the help menu/about and
confirm

that 2.0 has installed successfully.

[Blind-Computing] windows 7 flaky

2010-12-19 Thread Lenny McHugh
Ok, I have been having several random problems with windows 7. At least once a
week when I use spell check for windows live mail, it crashes. Jaws stops
speaking for a few minutes and when it is back there is no sign of my email.
Today I was looking at some of the options for nod 32 when I clicked on about
to find the version again jaws stopped talking and when back nod 32 was no
longer running. Yesterday with the search box again jaws stopped talking and
when back nothing was located, looking for regedit. After a restart it worked
fine. There is no pattern to this behavior, any suggestions?

HI Maria, Andre, Don, Gerald,  Rick;

After going to the website provided by Don Andre I downloaded / Saved my
appropriate version and Installed / ran it from my C Drive. As Maria
stated, when I went to run it, the first dialog was to upgrade. Well, that
is what I did and when it was all said done, I checked MSSE Update, the
new version is, Virus definition version: 1.95.2118.0. Have anyone who has
upgraded checked to find out what version they ended up with? I am just
curious as to what version others have installed after doing the upgrade.
As stated above, I didn't end up with 2.0 at all and just curious what
happened with others. Thanks much. Take care.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 Released

2010-12-19 Thread Don Marang
I just downloaded the update installer file, than ran it. It is smart
enough to disable and / or uninstall version 1. It also disables the
Windows Firewall and remanants of Defender as it installs. It then
configures and restarts all of these services. I heard several such
notifications get announce as it proceeded. It does require a reboot after
installation.

I think it is ready for primetime, since it is out of beta. It sounds like
they pulled out planned functionality of real time monitoring of websites,
due to performance. They released it very quietly, perhaps because of
reduced functionality? Many times, they geographically rooll out such
upgrades on Windows Update to manage large demand for downloads.

Unfortunately, I could not find an About box or similar place that

Re: [Blind-Computing] Narrator in Vista

2010-12-19 Thread Andre Williams
1. You might be presented with the UAC so try pressing alt + Y.
2. Press windows applications key and type the first few characters of the
word narrator and press enter. give it a few seconds to load.
3. Get a thumb drive and place a single MP3 file on it. Launch it by
pressing something like X:Random.mp3. This will tell you if you have sound
coming out of your computer.
4. Go to start menu search and type run followed by enter. Now type the word
media and press enter. Press the end key to go to the last wav file and
press enter. You should hear the sound effect play.

I tried that also, but it didn't work. Someone gave me this laptop with
vista and I have no idea if there is something preventing me from
functioning on the screen or not. It looks like I'll have to have someone
sighted look at the screen for me and see what's going on here.

The windows music comes on and I hear the hard drive going, but that's as
far as I am able to go.

HI Maria, Andre, Don, Gerald,  Rick;

Take care.

Hi Andre;

I did as you suggested and below is the information in the about security
option.

Security Essentials Version: 2.0.657.0

Antimalware Client Version: 3.0.8107.0

Engine Version: 1.1.6402.0

Antivirus definition: 1.95.2118.0

Antispyware definition: 1.95.2118.0

When I opened this about security option earlier, Jaws did not read this
information, upon opening. I pressed control + home arrowed down to read
1 line at a time, this time and that is how I got it. Thanks for the help.
Take care.
