Re: [Blind-Computing] Deleted folder in Outlook 2003
Glad you found it, but remember those folders aren't actually all that separate on the hard drive as such - they generally get stored inside a single outlook folder called something like outlook.pbx, under your user settings, etc. Glad you got it back anyway... Re: [Blind-Computing] converting files
Almost sounds like some form of language/character set/encoding conversion, if you get my drift - that might make it show up as a bunch of weird characters, etc. If, using windows 7, in the start menu, you start typing language, there should be something like an option to set/change microsoft office language settings, and while I haven't looked at this as such, you might find something there - as in, just make sure it's set to the right language you want to make use of, and, preferably the same one the older machine was using - as in US english, etc. Alternatively, on something like windows XP, under control panel, there's an item called something like regional and language settings, but also possible office there also has it's own language settings - look under tools menu in word, for either an item like that, or in it's options dialogue. Hi Lenny, I would be inclined to agree with you. Shutting the external drive off with it's switch shouldn't have any affect on the computer, however, if the drive is being written to at the time you turn it off, this will most certainly cause data loss or corruption. [Blind-Computing] ext hd power question
Does the power switch on the external hd drive do anything other than cut the power? Wondering if it triggers some sort of shut down procedure. I have been using my drive always powered on and controlled by a surge controller panel. The surge protector I use has switches to power on the computer, monitor, printer and accessories. In the computer power I have a power strip in which I have the computer, speakers and modem. and in the accessory I have the external drive. So I cut the power to the drive when I do not need it. Just wondering if this caused the failure. --- Please visit my home page, it is motivational, educational, inspirational with a touch of humor.
