Re: [Blind-Computing] muting jaws

2011-03-13 Thread Mike & Barbara In Arcadia
Hi G.Braille;

The steps you have posted are correct but, you have to have NVDA & Jaws
running at the same time to do this. I tried the sleep mode thing on my
computer & let me tell you, it was a major pain! You have both programs
yakking at you at the same time. The biggest pain is that you still have to
use the NVDA pass through keystroke to get to the Jaws configuration
manager. Personally what I do is, if I am going to run NVDA is unload Jaws
first then, start NVDA but, there are times I have had to start NVDA while
Jaws is also running and, that is where it's nice to know the pass through
keystroke for NVDA, to get Jaws shut down while NVDA is running. I have
used the sleep mode option in the past with other self voicing programs but,
I don't like using it with NBDA. This is my personal preference and I am by
no means suggesting that my way, is the way others should do this. After
trying the sleep mode with NVDA, I was ready for a snooze as well, on Doctor
Phil's couch!! LOL

Take care.
Mike

What about if you make jaws to sleep? Snoring too!
Here is the instruction from jaws configuration.
This dialog is found within Configuration Manager, under the Set Options
  menu.

  Sleeping Mode

These check boxes are used to turn off JAWS processing within specific
applications. This is generally used in applications that provide their
own
  speech or Braille support.

We recommend you do not set this option in Default.jcf, as this would stop
  all processing of JAWS commands.

a.. Enable: If checked, this option enables sleep mode, and turns off
JAWS
processing. This check box is cleared by default.
b.. Unload Synthesizer: If checked, the synthesizer is unloaded from
memory, freeing it for use by other applications. This check box is
cleared
by default. This check box is only available if the Enable check box is
  checked.

1. Press Insert + F2, This is, Pass next key through NVDA+f2 Tells NVDA to

HI Yvonne,
You can locate it on microsoft.com. Will probably have to hit downloads
page and I'm sure IE 9 release candidate will be featured. The no
ttracking feature stops advertisers from tracking your searches, which
also helps with spam emails. I haven't read the full functionality of it
though, but I do have the feature turned on.

Hello there,
I've been using it since the beta. They've since released the release
candidate and I see the complete version should be available on the 14th.
It

seems to be more stable than IE 8 and I particularly like the no tracking
feature. I did have a few problems in edit boxes in the beta, but even
that

seems ok in the release candidate.

[Blind-Computing] Ripping CD's in Windows 7

2011-03-13 Thread Sharon Hooley

Hi all! My name is Sharon Hooley.

I'm using Windows 7 with Jaws 12, and have Windows Media Player 12
installed. From my experience, this player is hard to get around in
when it comes to burning, so I figure it might not be the best to rip
either. Is this player the most accessible to rip and burn? If not,
what would you recommend?

Thanks!

[Blind-Computing] muting jaws

2011-03-13 Thread Yvonne Oliver
Hello

Is it possible to mute jaws rather than have it not start at start up or
restart of the computer?

I want to combine jaws with n v d a

Reason is there are occasions when something I do may take longer than 40
minutes

For that reason I would like jaws to start then be able to mute jaws so that
only n v d a is sounding.

And of course be able to un mute jaws if what I am doing leaves enough time
before the 40 minute deadline is up

Can someone tell me if this can be done and how to do it?

Thank you

Yvonne

Yvonne

[Blind-Computing] Using Auto Sizer 1.6

2011-03-13 Thread Allen Childs
Hello,
I am wondering if anyone could answer a couple of questions about Auto
Sizer. I am currently using Auto Sizer 1.6, JAWS 12.0.525 and Windows XP Home.
I know that there are some that use Auto Sizer and was wondering if I went to
Auto Sizer 1.7 would it work on my system. Also, I have the system default
sound turned on to let me know when an e-mail, documents and other things are
maximized. Is there any way to change the default system sound to something
else? Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated.

[Blind-Computing] Finding Different Colored Text

2011-03-13 Thread Steve & Shannon Cook
Hi All,

I am using JAWS 12, word 2010, and Windows 7 64 bit system. How can I find
different colored text in my word document? For example, someone sent me a
document and some of the names on the document are in blue. How can I find
the blue text using JAWS? Thanks in advance!

[Blind-Computing] cdex versions

2011-03-13 Thread Yvonne Oliver
Hello
I have cdex version I think is 1.7
Not sure for definite on that but think beta 4 is mentioned.
However it is a nightmare and I found the earlier version I used on xp much
easier
I want to go back to that earlier version but have no idea what version
number it was
Is anyone still using the earlier version or perhaps someone who has
upgraded to the new version may be able to tell me what that earlier version
was and where I can get it.
If it helps I was using it up until the end of December 2010

I am using w7
Outlook and jaws 12
Thank you

Yvonne

Ann Byrne, go to the Windows Help and Support section for Windows 7. There
is a quick reference card (a bitg one) that lists just about every key
stroke you would ever need. There is not an URL for it.

By the way, the keystroke WindowsKey plus UpArrow is supposed to maximize
your document window.
