The way I check is;

You most likely would hear;
Check for updates,
Press enter.
If there's criticle updates, you would hear,

Re: [Blind-Computing] Accessible tune up utility wanted

2012-07-13 Thread Jo Luland

Hi,
I just downloaded what I was lead to believe was a free trial version of the
program Auslogics Boost Speed which was referenced in this thread. It
doesn't appear to work and it keeps asking me to purchase so errors can be
fixed. However, it states that the trial will expire in 15 days, but doesn't
go any further to repair any errors. Is this program actually accessible
with JAWS13? Thanks.

Hi, As per this thread, I went ahead and paid for the full version of
Auslogics Boost speed software and have ran it on both my XP pro desktop
and
my Vista laptop. On my XP machine, it found over 900 errors and was able
to

fix all of them with a good improvement overall. On my Vista laptop, it
found just over 800 errors and fixed all except for about 15 of them and
there is a great improvement there. I also ran a full scan of MRT and MSC
on
both machines with nothing found. I also tried to run a scannow command
but
was unable to finish it because though I have a XP pro installation disk,
it

won't allow a repair from this disk because it isn't the original XP pro
disk with SP 3. I think that the original disk used was only a SP 1
diskbut

because of updates, this machine is now up to SP 3 and that is what it is
asking for. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do for some corrupt
dll

errors when a scannow is invoked, let me know? I would love to keep this
machine working for a long time yet.

Thanks
Jay

[Blind-Computing] REPORT ON AUSLOGICS BOOSTSPEED

2012-07-13 Thread John Justice
Hi group,

I have seen several questions about this tune up tool so I decided to check
it out and then provide an evaluation.

I have noticed that if you download the free program, the system will
identify but not fix errors. The only way you can have the software
complete the scan is by purchasing the full program at: $49.95 USD.

In answer to Joe's question, yes, with some navigation, the program is
completely accessible.

WARNING!

The cost entitles you to a one year subscription, only. Apparently, after
that period, you will have to pay an additional charge to continue using
Auslogics Boostspeed.

When I scanned my computer, more than 3000 errors were found.

There were 47 which could not be repaired.

Just as a test, I scanned a second time and the software found and corrected
two additional errors.

There are some other options you can use which will optimize your memory,
clean the Temporary Internet Files folder and delete your browsing history.
All of these procedures can be performed using standard Windows 7 functions.

When you purchase Auslogics Boostspeed, you will be licensed to use it on
three different computers. All you do is copy the .exe file and then load
it on your new computer. You may also have to save the license code and
bring that along as well. I haven't detected any significant increase in
speed as of yet. But it is good to know that those errors were corrected.
At this point, I'm not sure whether there will be an improvement in the over
all performance of my system.

It might be just as effective to use something like Regscrub or C Cleaner
and perform the other functions using standard Windows 7 tools.

Okay, Angelina. You may need to study the software carefully. However, one
of the scanning options should be that you can choose which kind of file the
information is saved to. One of those options may be .pdf. Normally, you
need a full Adobe .pdf version to create a document in that format.
However, I have noticed that in some generic scanner software packages, .pdf
is an option.
If you find that you can't save to that format, you may need a conversion
program. There are quite a few out there and some may be on our home page.

A word of caution might be in order here, Angelina. Not all Epson scanners
are compatible with Jaws. I had to return one for that very reason.
Have you had the scanner for long? If not, and you find that it doesn't
work with Jaws, you might be able to return it and get an HP or some other
scanner that does work with screen readers.
There's a whole list of them on the Freedom Scientific site under Open
Book. That's one of their scanning programs. It's quite expensive these
days so I hope you can make the generic program work for you.
As a last resort, there are also several reasonable scanning programs, some
of which are quite workable with Jaws although not nearly as flexible as
Open Book.
Good luck Angelina.

Angelina,
Are you using the Epson built in software or something independent?

Hello I have an Epson scanner. How do I scan a document and save it in a pdf
format or a word document format? Thanks Angelina Stabile.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Accessible tune up utility wanted

2012-07-13 Thread Jay Phinnemore
Yes it is, I found that it will only fix, in my case anyways, 15 items until
I bought the program. I didn't hear what was going on unless I used the jaws
cursor but if you tab around, you will find a fix button, just press enter
on that.

Hi,
I just downloaded what I was lead to believe was a free trial version of the
program Auslogics Boost Speed which was referenced in this thread. It
doesn't appear to work and it keeps asking me to purchase so errors can be
fixed. However, it states that the trial will expire in 15 days, but doesn't
go any further to repair any errors. Is this program actually accessible
with JAWS13? Thanks.
Jo

Hi, As per this thread, I went ahead and paid for the full version of
Auslogics Boost speed software and have ran it on both my XP pro
desktop and my Vista laptop. On my XP machine, it found over 900
errors and was able to fix all of them with a good improvement
overall. On my Vista laptop, it found just over 800 errors and fixed
all except for about 15 of them and there is a great improvement
there. I also ran a full scan of MRT and MSC on both machines with
nothing found. I also tried to run a scannow command but was unable to
finish it because though I have a XP pro installation disk, it won't
allow a repair from this disk because it isn't the original XP pro
disk with SP 3. I think that the original disk used was only a SP 1
diskbut because of updates, this machine is now up to SP 3 and that is
what it is asking for. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do for
some corrupt dll errors when a scannow is invoked, let me know? I
would love to keep this machine working for a long time yet.

 Thanks
 Jay

Hi Mike, ya, I have had C cleaner for a while. I was sort of hoping
that there was something out there that was a little more robust and
 automatic.
You know, like one of these one click programs that the sightees get
 to use.
Thanks for the link though. I will take a look at the jaws users
website and see what else is there that I can use. I don't think I
have ever been on that site before.

Hi all, I am new to the list and am in the middle of doing
 maintenance on
this old XP pro system. I am wondering if there is a free
 accessible tune up
utility that I can download off the web that can take a look at and
 repair
reg files, do a clean up and check dll files for corrupt or missing
 files.

  I
will eventually be doing a SFC /scannow prompt on this thing and
 hopefully,
I have a disk that will work on the way to get deep into the
 corrupt dll
files and other system files. But until then, I would like to run a
 tune up
utility first. Any suggestions would be great.

 Hi group,

I have noticed that if you download the free program, the system will
identify but not fix errors. The only way you can have the software
complete the scan is by purchasing the full program at: $49.95 USD.

In answer to Joe's question, yes, with some navigation, the program is
 completely accessible.

 WARNING!

The cost entitles you to a one year subscription, only. Apparently,
after that period, you will have to pay an additional charge to
 continue using Auslogics Boostspeed.

When I scanned my computer, more than 3000 errors were found.

There were 47 which could not be repaired.

Just as a test, I scanned a second time and the software found and
 corrected two additional errors.

There are some other options you can use which will optimize your
memory, clean the Temporary Internet Files folder and delete your
 browsing history.
All of these procedures can be performed using standard Windows 7
 functions.

When you purchase Auslogics Boostspeed, you will be licensed to use it
on three different computers. All you do is copy the .exe file and
then load it on your new computer. You may also have to save the
license code and bring that along as well. I haven't detected any
significant increase in speed as of yet. But it is good to know that
those errors were corrected.
At this point, I'm not sure whether there will be an improvement in
the over all performance of my system.

It might be just as effective to use something like Regscrub or C
Cleaner and perform the other functions using standard Windows 7 tools.

2012-07-13 Thread David Ferrin
He couldn't send it to the list if he wanted since such things are locked
out by the server. How ever if he would send it to me it could be posted for
everybody to download instead of all of this extra traffic, just a
suggestion.
