Hi Jacob, Jim Kitchens games all unzip into a folder called winkit.zip which is a game menu system for all his games. On his site, the first game reads: winkit.zip 2.4m bytes May 2003 contains a game menu system and the board game of life Please install the winkit.zip file before installing any of the below games. When you open that folder all his games will have been unzipped in there. Hope this is of some help and not brought to your attention before. Brian - Original Message - From: "Jacob Kruger" To: Sent: Monday, June 01, 2009 2:33 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Getting Games INSTALLED Standardly, they mostly seem to be winzip self extractors, and they all seem to default to something like C:\program files\kitchensinc. However I generally just add another folder below that for the name of the game, hence, something like: C:\Program Files\kitchensinc\wincasino Then you unzip the contents to there, browse to the folder using windows explorer and look for the executable/application to run the game - different file names all the time. Anyway, in windows explor3er, I use the context menu, right click key, go down to send to, open that submenu using the right arrow key, and hit enter on desktop (create shortcut), and then on the desktop, I copy the new shortcut into a folder on the desktop called games, and generally rename the shortcuts as well. Hi David, I forgot to mention that I was using Windows Millennium so your instructions weren't able to help me. What may be missing is, restart the PC once the Primary Logon has been changed to "Windows Logon", as above. On rebooting the Logon window will appear again. Just enter your Name and NO PASSWORD, leave it blank, then OK it. Next time you start the PC the logon box should not appear. I will keep your instructions in case I need them in the future. From the run dialogue, type exactly what you see on the next line exactly the way you see it: control userpasswords2 This will open a special dialogue from which you can select your own user account to log on by default. 2. You will land on a checkbox that says, Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer checkbox checked. Leave it checked for now and tab once. 3. You should hear: Users for this computer: list view administrator administrator. 4. Arrow down to your name. It should say something like your name and administrator, like Name administrator. 5. Tab back around to that checkbox that said, users must enter a user name and password to use this computer, and hit the space bar to uncheck it. 6. Tab to apply and hit the space bar. 7. Then tab to the okay button and hit the space bar! Your done, your computer should boot up now without having to log in. [Blind-Computing] Visited links
Hi friends, I'm using Windows XP Pro and Jaws 10. When I clink on a link on the web and then want to come back to that link all I have to do is press the letter V and I start to go through the visited links on that page. On my desktop computer when I click on a link and then want to find it later I can get there by pressing the letter v, too. When in Out Look Express on the Desktop the letter v for visited links works, but on my laptop when I click on a link I can't get back there by pressing the letter V. I can, however, get to the unvisited links by pressing the letter u. What settings do I need to adjust to get this option to work. Any help would be appreciated. Re: [Blind-Computing] Help with using the right email program?
Hi Carliss, To get the E Mail program you want Windows to use by default: 1. Go to start 2. Go to control panel 3. Go to internet options 4. control tab over to the programs page 5. Now tab down once and you'll hear, E Mail, and if you arrow up or down you'll hear the name of the program you want to use for sending your E Mail. 6. Now tab down to apply and then to OK and you have set that program as your default preferred E Mail program Just a helpful hint, some times when Windows automatic updates are installed your E Mail program gets changed. Surely you would want your entire system restored, and not only the rest of your computer? If a virus infects that drive, you will want the system restore to repair it in some way by restoring it and it's files. Having said that, if you want to shut off the system restore to that drive, go to your my computer icon on the desktop, and press alt+enter to go to the system properties. Control+tab until you get to the system restore tab, and you should be able to change how it monitors your drives there. I can't be more exact, as I have never shut this feature off on any of my drives, so maybe someone else will know exactly how to do it, and you'll be able to shut it off. Re: [Blind-Computing] compressed zip folders
Steve, The download time is about right depending on your Internet speed and how busy the Internet is. You'll have to unzip them before putting them on your player. When you unzip them choose a folder, I usually make one with the name of the zipped files I'm unzipping, and as for converting them you'll have to see what kind of file type they are. A lot of them come down in the .MP3 format. Hope this helps. Re: [Blind-Computing] Converting VHS To MP3
Rick, If all you want from the video cassette tape is the audio you can use gold wave. Just connect the audio out put from your tape player to the line in on your computer, unmute the line in under volume control and then use Gold Waves record feature. If you have only one sound card you'll have to turn Jaws off so you don't record what Jaws is saying. The record, pause, resume recording and stop functions are done with the f ( function ) keys so it's pretty easy to remember what to do after Jaws is turned off. Hope this is of some help. Brian PS I've recorded dozens of tapes that way. - Original Message - From: "Mark" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 3:55 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Converting VHS To MP3 Hi There are devices available through many of the computer stores that connect between the VHS unit and the computer. Re: [Blind-Computing] Video card driver question
Hi Russ, Thanks, I was hoping I wouldn't have to open the computer to find this out. I guess the inevitable will have to happen. Thanks again. Brian - Original Message - From: "Russ Breitenstein" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Monday, July 07, 2008 10:17 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Video card driver question FS Support is correct, you need the drivers for your video adapter. Follow Aiden's instructions and get the name and manufacturer of your video adapter. Go to the manufacturer's website or do a Google search to download the drivers. If the computer is home-built I would start with the motherboard manufacturer. I would also try the manufacturer of the computer. It may take some digging but it's out there. Patricia, to get out of a folder your in all you have to do is to left arrow to get out of that folder. you will then be in your list of folders again. An example would be, I have a DVD of eight Andy Griffith shows on one DVD and would like the first show which is labeled on the TV screen as, Dogs, Dogs, Dogs, but when I rip it from the DVD it is labeled as chapter one. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Chris, My mistake, it's version 5, sorry about that. Or does GoldWave 5.5 really exist? From what I've read the former is more likely. Brian Tipka wrote: > Hi Friends, > I've recorded several books on cassette into my computer using Gold Wave > 5.5. [Blind-Computing] Burning CD's without gaps
Hi Friends, I've recorded several books on cassette into my computer using Gold Wave 5.5. Each side of the tape is about 45 minutes long. I'd like to burn the books to a CD. I, however, would like to put a break every 15 minutes to avoid having to listen to a whole side of a cassette at a time. When I do this and then listen to it on the CD there is a silent gap of about 2 seconds at every break. There is no place that works out where the gap sounds OK. I'm using Windows XP Pro and Nero 5 or Windows Media Player 11. Is there a way to burn the 15 minute sections to a CD where there will be no gap that I can hear between the sections. When I cut the recorded sides into sections I removed all the silence from the beginning and end of each section. any help would be appreciated. Re: [Blind-Computing] Finding Internet temporary files
David, Thanks for the program suggestion. I use Windows Media Player 11. Will this program work with that, too? Brian - Original Message - From: "David Griffith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2008 4:36 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Finding Internet temporary files Why don't you try "Free You tube to MP3 converter". A Google search will find it. I use this program for precisely the reason you describe - the other is that I find the WinAmp controls much more accessible than the controls available on You tube. The program is completely accessible with Jaws. Simply press F6 on the You tube page the video is sited on. Press Control C to copy the URL . You do not have to listen to any of the Video itself you just need the address. Run Free You tube to MP3 converter and paste in the URL and tab down to the download and convert button. The audio from the video will be saved on your local c: drive and will be called From_internet.mp3. Simply press F2 to rename the file to something more relevant. Then simply listen to it in your MP3 player. I'm sure this is happening because my internet connection isn't fast enough. If I want to watch ( listen to ) lets say a 3 minute video clip it can take up to 12 minutes for it to finish playing broken up the whole time. If I immediately click on it to play it again it will play just fine. I'm pretty sure that after playing the first time it has been saved in a temporary file some where on my hard drive. My question is: where might I find these temporary files so I can copy, rename and then cut and place them some where else on my computer. I'd like to do this as I often times like to play them for others at a later date and once I leave the site or shut down my computer those temporary files vanish. It's a hassle to have to wait for the down load each time I want to play them for others. The files I'm wanting to save don't have a down load option for down loading and saving them. I'm using Internet Explorer 7 and Windows XP Pro. Any help finding these files before they vanish would be greatly appreciated.
