Hi,

Your downloaded mail should go to outlook and you should be in inbox because
there is a choice to have outlook 2003 start in your inbox. Press f 9 and
your stuff should download. There are tons of options to set so go to tools
and options. I don't know if someone has ever posted a list of options that
work best witgh jaws.

This is the first time I've used Outlook, so am not sure of option settings.

When I enter to read a message it's as if there's nothing on the screen.

And is there a way for messages to automatically come in from the server
when Outlook is opened? At present, I need to press control m for the
messages to come on screen.

Hello all:

Sorry for my first attempt at sending this message and am now resending it
with my request.

I hope someone on this list can help me. My coffee maker has died after ten
years of excellent service and I need to purchase a new one. Does anyone
know an internet site where I can purchase the same type of Coffee Maker?

The last time I logged on to Amazon I was not able to find what I wanted

A friend now needs to re-install this after a pc crash, but does not
have a cd, the Office 2003 package having been a complementary
installation by the Vender when the pc was purchased some years ago.

Does someone please still have the relevant url and can one just install
it via the windows components in the add/remove programs submenu under
the control panel in Windows XP?

If not, where can he find details on how to do the relevant
installation,
clear enough for an average jaws 11 user?

Thanks and regards,

Hi,

Does anyone know if either Sonic or Roxio is accessible with Jaws?
And what version will work with it?

I am using the latest version of Jaws on Windows XP system. I am
looking for a good software that can copy DVD, burn DVD and CD and
other functions that will work with a DVD/CDRW drive. I also would
like to be able to erase both DVD and CD rewritable disk.

I know that there are quite a few software mentioned in the Jaws
Users and Blind Computing sites. I originally have been using Easy CD
creator basic 5.3 (Roxio) for 6 years. This version was installed on
my Dell computer when I got it new. Since I was able to replace my
CDRW drive with the DVD/CDRW drive, it appears that my version of
Roxio is no longer compatible with this new drive. I am open for any
suggestions and using other software that will work and be Jaws friendly.

Many thanks in advance. Take care.

The NLS players are provided at no cost by your local Talking Book Library.
They provide them to those with a disability that limits one's ability to

it's my understanding that, this was caused by one of the earlier updates,

easier to create the shortcut icon from the start-menu and, then send to

Hi Mike,
Windows components
You can free more disk space by removing optional
Windows components that you do not use.
When you choose this option, it will take you to a dialogue in the
Add/Remove programs applet.
In this applet, you can remove components of the operating system such as
Windows Media Player, faxing, internet tools etc.
This particular option, can be tricky to navigate, and should be used with
the understanding that removing components of the operating system
may result in unexpected side effects, since other functions of Windows may
depend on these components to operate properly.

Installed programs
You can free more disk space by removing programs that
you do not use.
Choosing this option, will take you to the Add/Remove programs applet, and
that one is self-explanatory.
This option is a good opportunity for users to clean up programs that are
not used, and free up more disk space, keeping the computer in good working
order.

System Restore
You can free more disk space by removing all but the
most recent restore point.
This option, does what it says, and should be performed from time-to-time,
since these extra restore points
use up disk space, and with time will bog down a system.
HTH,

Hi Linda,

You don't need a USB cable to use your Kingston flash drive. Just swivel
the cover open 180 degrees to expose the USB connector, and plug it directly

into a USB port, either a port on your PC to download NLS books, or the port

on the right side of the Digital Talking Book player to play them. If you

Hi Linda:

Here is another straw that some one else is grasping at? Is it possible
that what you have is a 4GB memory card similar to what goes into some
digital cameras? Hope that may help!

You put this into your computer this thumb drive if this is in fact what you

 Hi,

Gerald Levy posted a place to get a 4 gb cartridge made by Kingston. I
bought one but I don't know what you do with it. It is about 1l.5 inches

 sits

If so, there should be a usb type plug in the back, toward the bottom. Use a

Re: [Blind-Computing] help witih nls cartridge-need directions

2010-05-17 Thread Linda Parent
Hi,

I don't have a cartridge but here goes. You should get a usb cable with
the cartridge. You put one end on the cartridge and the other into a usb
cable on your computer. Now, bring up the book name like db whater and tab
until it says winzie submenu. Enter on winzip submenu and arrow down once
to where it extracts. You can set it to extract to whatever the letter of
your cartridge drive will be when you insert it into your computer. It
would probably be drive e or f. Then you have set it to exatract to that
drive, tab until it says okay and press enter. Remember, you can only have
one book on the cartridge at one time. So delete whatever else might be on
there and it will extract the right file. If you don't have winzip, you can
download it. You want to click on use evaluation button.

 the file
name upgrade will be on your flash drive. If you want to hear
 the serial

Listers,

I am having a real problem with the newest Winzip program.

I had an old version (9), however, some how I must have gotten rid of it. So
I downloaded the newest version to unzip my nLS books and it's not to user
friendly, is it?

Well, if some one would tell me how may I obtain a copy of an older version
of Winzip, or how to get the latest version14.5, to work with unzipping NLS
books? I would really be a happy camper.

It appears that having the winzip program available helps the download of
the NLS books to move along faster when using the open choice instead of the
save when downloading the books. I say this, because when the winzip
application isn't available it takes longer for the book to download, and I
can't use the open option.

Thanks to all,

Did you put that folder name there or did outlook do it. Maybe you can

Other than that, I guess you could copy the stuff from that folder and paste

Hello everyone,

I was just informed that I am about to receive the Digital Player from the
NLS. I can't find any instructions at all on the NLS web site on how the
player operates. It tells me how to download a book, get it on to a blank
cartridge to put in the player, but nothing about how to operate the player
itself.

Over the months I've seen a few postings about the digital player on this
list and saved them because I knew I would eventually receive a player, but
I know there are a lot of features of the player that I'll want to get used

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a tutorial or some

Hi,

First, make sure nothing is on your flash drive. After downloading the
book, extract the file to your drive. Now all the extracted files should be
on your flash drive. If you put your flash drive in the usb port on the
player, it should tell you the title of the book. Only have one book on
your drive. You can always put the second book on there when you are ready
to use it. There should always be only one book at a time on the flash
drive.

list all the extracted files which is about 100 files but it won't let me
copy and paste them into my flash drive. I am using winzip 9 in classic
mode and I must be a total moron because to me, the extracted files should
be able to be moved. I'm wondering if anyone is getting just upgrade on
their flash drive or cartridge because this is sure weird. When I put the

Hi,

As far as nls players, they have two kinds--the regular one and an advanced
version. The way that the advanced is different is you can put bookmarks in
certain portions of your book or something. The digital books you can
download end in zip so you have to extract the files and copy them onto a
cartridge or flash or thumb drive but I'm not sure if the nls machines will
do what you want.

I just received my Coby MP200 MP3 player from JR, and it is truly simple
and totally blind accessible. On top of the unit is the earphone jack into
which you plug the included earbuds. The front panel has 5 discrete buttons
arranged in a vertical column. From top to bottom, the buttons are skip
forward, play/pause/power, skip backward, volume up and volume down.
Pressing and holding the second button from the top for 5 seconds turns the
unit on, and pressing and holding it again for 5 seconds turns it off.
That's all there is to it. The bottom of the unit has a USB connector that
plugs directly into a USB port, although a separate USB cable is also
included. You just plug it into your PC and copy and paste the MP3 files
you want to download. Just install the included AAA battery and you're good
to go. The sound quality is surprisingly good, at least using a better pair
of earbuds than the included ones. There is absolutely no learning curve,
and no sighted assistance is required to use it. The included software,
which I have not tried yet, is fully JAWS accessible. With 2gb of memory,
it can hold up to 1,000 songs. This is probably the best blind accessible
MP3 deal ever. It is still available from JR for $10 with free shipping,
but they probably won't last much longer at that price. They make wonderful
stocking stuffers. The hardest part of using this gizmo is getting it out
of the plastic blister pack which requires a heavy duty scissors to cut
open.

I didn't think you could uninstall Windows XP? The only way I know of is to
reformat and reinstall, which in turn uninstalls Windows. Not sure how you
would save program settings since each program's different in terms of where

it stores your settings. Most are stored in a part of the registry, but some

still use ini or other configuration files to store your settings. So am not

sure there.

experience with this software. If so is it blind friendly? I liked the
information on the drive which includes the following.

•
500GB Personal Media Drive
•
Roxio Backup MyPC™ software (preinstalled)
•
6' USB cable
•
AC power adapter with removable power cord and DC output cable
•
Warranty guide
I am a little concerned if the software would work for me though. What do
you think?

Re: [Blind-Computing] Question About Roxio Backup MyPC

2009-06-15 Thread Linda Parent
Hi,

I believe it came with his external drive. Roxio makes a very good backup
program called back on track for $29. It works very well with jaws and
windows xp home. I can't speak for vista but I would think it would be
fine.

I have been using a program called, Your Uninstaller 2008 . It cost
about $40 and it has a feature in it called Rescue Center. It will back up
your entire computer, files and settings. And it is 100 percent accessible.
When you are going to use it. If you are a Vista user, make sure your UAC
Control is turned off. If it is on then Jaws won't work correctly.

Hi
Recently I was looking at the HP 500GB Personal Media Drive. It
comes with some thing called Roxio Backup MyPC. Does anyone on the list have
experience with this software. If so is it blind friendly? I liked the
information on the drive which includes the following.

table with 2 columns and 5 rows
•
500GB Personal Media Drive
•
Roxio Backup MyPC™ software (preinstalled)
•
6' USB cable
•
AC power adapter with removable power cord and DC output cable
•
Warranty guide
I am a little concerned if the software would work for me though. What do
you think?

God bless,

Hi,

I've tried many dvd discs. I got them at Sam's Club but the had two
kinds--plus one or minus ones whatever that means. I have tried both kinds
buat I never get any message while the dvd is in the tray. At least jaws

The disc is ejected when Windows cannot cope with it.
This may be because it is a faulty disc or the drive cannot cope with the
format.
AT the very least you should be getting a message asking what you want to
do with the disc.
How many DVDs have you tried?
Some DVDs stacks are not of great quality. And I have had to discard quite
a few.
If many DVDS are getting this reaction it is difficult not to conclude that
Your drive is behaving as if it is not a DVD burner.

For 33 gb of backup I would normally recommend anyway that you use an
external drive. Actually I would backup on more than one external drives if
the data is really important. I realise that this is a more expensive option
but at least it will be possible to easily update your backup.

It may be that you have a CD burner but only a DVD read capacity. Some
older drives did not have a DVD burn capacity.

If you do believe that you have a DVD burner you will need DVD burning
software. There is no DVD Burner included with XP . I would suggest that
you go to the Jaws User Programs page where there are several free programs
which will burn DVDS.

 John,

I used to use PeaPod quite effectively, but that was almost five years
 ago
now when I lived in Wheaton, IL. It was quite a complex web site and
instructing anybody to use it even then would be quite challenging via
e-mail. But I will start by suggesting that you become very familiar
 with
each of the features that JAWS offers in Internet Explorer.
 Particularly,
frame lists, links lists and pop-up menu handling.

In the winter of 2003/2004 it would commonly take me three hours to
 submit a
$125 grocery order and we never bought meats and seldom bought produce
 through the PeaPod web site.

Re: [Blind-Computing] RegCure a registry cleaner

2009-02-04 Thread Linda Parent
Hi,

I use it and it is jaws accessible. The only thing I had trouble was
putting my key in the right place but that may be due to some function in
jaws that I am not familiar with. Otherwise, if you route jaws to pc, it
worked good. It backs up your registry before any changes take place. The
program is not free and about every year, you have to pay it again.

Hi All,

Has anyone used, tried, or familiar with a registry cleaner named RegCure?
Also,if anyone is familiar with this program, did you find it accessible
with the PC cursor, or did you need to use your Jaws cursor? I got this
from the website below.

http://www.windowsaccelerator.com/

I am asking because after running CCleaner and then running RegCure, RegCure

claims that I have 2562 errors, but it can't repair all the errors unless I
update from the trial version. Not being very website literate or literate
in any other way, is this a common practice for products to lure you in like

this? Or , is this a program with credibility? I am running XP/Office
Home, SP3. All advice and information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much. Take care.

How about going to arrange icons. Maybe you could even go to my computer,

Hello John,

Look for a title called DVD Audio Extractor.

It is a piece of software that rips the audio from a DVD and converts just
the audio to a format such as MP3, WMA, WAV or OGG.

The best part about this handy piece of software is it's ability to play the

DVD titles you load into your player.

There is a pause button, stop button, play button, skip a track button and
previous track button.

The only downside is that you cannot fast forward or rewind through a movie,

nor can you place bookmarks or any other thing that one would be able to
place using Winamp or Windows Media Player.

having said that, DVD Audio Extractor is a very simple piece of software, is

completely accessible, and very, very easy to use.

I have posted a set of instructions on how to use the program, which I sent
to David, but have included the text below for your information, and it
includes a description of the buttons one can use to play DVD's.

I should also note that you can either turn on the video screen or disable
it, if you so choose.

In any case, it's a really inexpensive piece of software, and again, it's
really easy to use.

Please see the instructions below.

***Begin Instructions Here***

I am going to detail how I do things with this program, and not how things
are supposed to be done, just in case someone decides that I'm doing
something wrong.

For one thing, the program is pretty much completely accessible, so there
are no specialty keystrokes you need to know to rip a DVD using Audio
Extractor.

Having said that, the following is what I do when confronted with a DVD I
wish to rip.

I load the DVD in the CD tray of my drive, close it, and let it do it's
thing.

Depending on how you have your autoplay functions set, you will either get a

pop up window asking you what you want to do with the DVD or you may get
nothing. If you get the autoplay dialog box, just select do nothing, and
tab to the ok button.

At this point, I will open up Any DVD, and let it do it's thing by decoding
the DVD. You should get a message that Any DVD is examining the disc,
please wait, your disc will be available shortly.

Once the tray stops spinning, you'll know the DVD has been decoded by Any
DVD.

At this point, you can go ahead and open up DVD Audio Extractor.

Once the program opens up, you'll here the DVD spin in the drive again as
DVD Audio Extractor looks for the DVD that is available in any of your
drives.

You should automatically land on the help button, at which point you will
want to tab to the combo box to select the DVD drive you've placed the disc
into. The program should have selected the drive already and be listed in
the combo box, but if it hasn't, then arrow up or down to the drive to
select it.

Once selected, you tab once and you'll land on the refresh button.

If I'm ripping a second DVD after ripping the first, I will press the
spacebar on this button, just to make sure the track listing is updated to
reflect the new DVD in the tray. You never can be sure with software.

Once you do this, tab once and you'll land on the track listing of the DVD.

From my experience, I have never seen track listings like Lee has mentioned

in his messages for ripping with this program.

I have never been able to right arrow to the alternate language, and so find

the tracks are listed by language, as opposed as in sections.

What I mean by this is, when Jaws speaks out the track number, it will have
the language somewhere in the track listing. It will list English, or
Francais or Espanol, or some other language in the title of the track.

I have never personally seen a DVD with audio description, so I really can't

say what an audio description track would look like.

Having said that, I would imagine that the title of the track would indicate

something other than the language.

As another example, I have had DVD movies, like the Fast and the Furious
that have had multiple angles to a particular scene, and this, too, is
indicated in the track title.

It will be listed as Angle 1 or Angle 2 or something along those lines.

Suffice it to say, if you look for these language names, you will be given
some idea of what language you are selecting.

Keep in mind that this is not always the case, as some DVD titles are not
authored correctly.

During the writing of this tutorial, I used a movie called March of the
Penguins. The DVD case comes with two DVD's. Presumably one DVD is the
English version, while the second DVD is the French version.

One would expect that the English version would have the word English in the

track titles, and the French version would have the word Francais, however

 Hello,

I just installed the AVG 8 and all that went fairly well. I just had a
concern in regards to the firewall settings and was wondering if anyone
on here might be using this and can tell me what exactly should I check
or not check for the firewall settings.
I did run the scan and it detected all the ports I need to be allowed to

 go through the firewall.
A last screen popped up regarding the firewall stuff such as it detected

my LAN settings and gave me 3 options...allow all, block all and stand
alone computer*I chose this last one*
Also a couple of box's to be checked and I didn't check either and last
2 were for a name so the firewall can use that name when it loads and a
profile and I chose no profile.

I did check within the AVG through my systems tray and found I am fully
protected and the firewall is fully functioning. So I guess I did that
right and I wonder if that last screen was just personal info if you
chose to set it up that way?

I have to remind y'all the last time I tried to install this, I got a
screen saying I had to uninstall Office and Outlook Express which I did
 neither and canceld it.
Since that time, I have installed Office 2003 and would you know...that
never popped up during the install of AVG 8.

[Blind-Computing] saving a large mp3 file to disc

It stops all incoming calls from west of the Mississippi river,

What will they think of next!

Hi folks,
I've been getting a referenced memory error frequently when I use the
Juno e-mail program.
I've contacted Juno and they tell me it is a conflict with another
program and to stop using the program that is causing it. Now, I haven't
been able to duplicate the error when JAWS is unloaded, but I'm not going
to stop using JAWS.
One programmer I talked with thinks it's abug in the Juno program and
they are giving me the run around.
When I google the error the only thing that comes up is a link to Reg
Cure, a registry cleaner program.
I downloaded the free version and if found 900 some errors.
And guess what?
the free version can't fix any of them!
I have to download and pay for the full version to get anything done.
My programmer friend doesn't seem to think that's going to solve the
problem.
Have you had any experience with this type of error and have you found
anything that will take care of it?

 Hey Mike,

 Try this:

 1. Highlight the Recycle Bin icon
 2. Press your Applications key
 3. Arrow down to Empty Recycle bin and press Enter
 4. You will be asked if you are sure you want to delete these items
 5. Press Enter on Yes, and you should hear your sound.

Hi

Maybe you can maximize ie. You might want to do a repair of whatever jaws
version you have.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Fixing IE7 menus

Hi
I am not sure what happened. I used to be able to scroll from left to
right through the menus with the left and right arrow keys. Now I am locked
in to what ever IE menu I happen to be on. I can scroll up and down though.
Any ideas on how to fix this are appreciated.

God bless,
Mark
