[Blind-Computing] friends, how do you uninstall and reinstall windows without formatting?

2009-08-31 Thread Randy Tijerina

Ok friends, let me explain this a bit.
i was told that I can uninstall and reinstall windows without
reformatting or formatting.
the reason why is that I am for some dumb reason I'm having trouble
with outlook express.
there's allot of disc activity when I open up outlook express. also when
you arrow up or down the activity gets worse. you also see outlook
express not responding.

and of course when you alt f 4 end program etc.
Can this truly be done without sighted help?

Hi Randy,
You can reinstall Windows without reformatting the disc.
Depending on how you do the install, the disk can or need not be formatted
as part of the installation procedure.
You did not say what version of Windows you are running and for example, XP
can be installed with an answer file which is basically a script containing
your settings and product key etc.
Vista is a bit different and I'll let someone else get into that as I ran it
for a while and then decided to wait for Windows7.
If it's XP you're dealing with you can Google Windows xp unattended setup
and get a lot of great ideas.sing windows xp home. also I'd like help on this
as I am not as brainy or computer geeky as others may be.

I may botch up things by accident. can I ask someone to skype me or
maybe send me the right things I need?

Randy.

There are also zip files on some of the blindness-related sites with all the
info you need.
There might even be something on the Jaws page on the domain which hosts
this list.

2009-08-31 Thread Randy Tijerina
Ok friends, I just saw some of the instructions that someone sent to me
about outlook express.
Now here's the problem. I have two cd/dvd drives. cd/rw drive D and dvd
drive E
Now I put a cd in for example a music cd and it doesn't come up
automaticallyy.
Even when I told the computer to associate this cd with whatever it
doesn't come up. It'll make a buzzong sound, then stop all together.

I'm told that I could need firmware updating. how do I go about this?
one dvd drive is a sony while the other is a philips.

2009-09-19 Thread Randy Tijerina

Friends, I have an outlook express issue here.
Let me take a few moments to explain. sit back and have a coffee, a coke
or a beer or whatever you like. *smiles*'

I got IE 8 and windows xp. I am using jaws version 10 and also 11.
I'm quite surprised they didn't even update this program.
Now here's what happens. when I open up OE
I am waiting as usualy for th email to come down. there's a tremendous
amount of disc activity.

if I even try to find out how many messages are coming down nothing happens.
Again continual disc activity.
if I arrow up or down even after the disc activity stops it starts up again.
if I use inster+page down it will say something like start
inbothen the stupid time clock will be announced.
Now, if I alt-f4 out of there it will say end program I can't remember
the name this program is not responding.

I honestly don't know what the problem is. can someone help?

Once you have renamed it, press enter to save the change.

I brought up the f5 key and I even ourted my jaws to pc.
I couldn't even find a single error message or anything on the screen
telling me something's wrong.
now if I hit the arrow keys like my up or down arrow and even begin to
read a message, then the disc activity starts up again.
I hit windows m to get to my desktop as I usually do.
I alt tabbed back in to outlook express and I hear start
inbo9-52 !.M. clock.
Of course when you alt f four out of there it will give you that end
program etc etc this program is not responding.

[Blind-Computing] why is this stupid quick time playing my files?

2009-11-22 Thread Randy Tijerina

Friends I'll try to explain this a bit.
You know how for example when you click on a and this is usually the
case in .mp3 files.

You get the file download do you want to open or save?
I'm not getting that.
Quick time is playing the files instead of winamp. that's what I want.
i want winamp to play the files if I choose to open them.
How do I fix this?
i'm using windows xp and jaws 11. and IE 8.

[Blind-Computing] I am still having problems with OE

2009-11-27 Thread Randy Tijerina

Friends, I'm still having a bit of trouble with OE,.
Let me explain for those of you who didn't get my first post.
Firstly, I'm using jaws11 with windows xp home.
I got IE8.
whenever I open up outlook express, now keep in mind this has never ever
happened to me until recently.
Jaws will stop talking and a tremendous humming of disc activity will
take place.
Even if I try to arrow up or down again it will freeze and start
whirring again.

then when I close I get end program outlook express etc.
then of course I get that oh so lovable don't send button or send error
report.

I'm gonna throw this junk out the window!

I want to see what if anything I accidentally deleted. Is there anyone

2009-12-11 Thread Randy Tijerina

chris I have to respectfuly disagree with you.
I found thunderbird 3 to be horrible. I couldn't even send a message to
ask this group for help. It kept asking me to uncheck a box that says
use name and password for this server. Meaning my roadrunner server.

Plus it kept saying allot of garbage that i couldn't fix.
I feel like asking for help sometimes is like putting a burden on those
who really know how to make it work.

Thunderbird 3
Hello all,
Thunderbird 3 was released a few days ago. It works brilliantly with
JAWS 11 at my end, not sure about earlier versions. You can get it from
www.mozilla.com.
David I believe you can upload this on your site as it's free to
download and use.
Enjoy!

2009-12-12 Thread Randy Tijerina
With this new version of thunderbird I think it is asking about the
uncheck the box that says use name with password. I don't remember. but
with the old version 2, it never ever asked me this.

Hello,

Do you have a password for outlook express? If you do, that's the one
you'd
use for thunderbird. I sent an email to a friend last night and didn't
have
trouble with entering my password. As for Jaws, I have a much older
version

of Jaws so I recently downloaded the new version of NVDA.

I don't think it is a password for outlook express as much as it is
for your email address. It is entered in tools menu then accounts and
then properties. It will be entered into the server tab after user
name I believe. You can not read it though as it is read as asterisks
for security purposes. You can get it from your provider if necessary.

guys I just checked out to see if this happens on other websites. It

  Hi Randy,
There is a program called Maestro translater that uses googles server
for translating. It works perfectly with jaws, but I don't recommend those
programs, because they make unforgivable mistakes in translating. Better
take a dictionary and start putting the words togeather by transleting
every of them from your language, you will get better results

Re: [Blind-Computing] AVG threat detection inquiry

2009-07-26 Thread Randy Tijerina
talking about AVG where can I download the free version of AVG? i've
tried to find it but all I seem to find is the paid version.

and, is it accessible?

Win Frotz is an emulator, right? If this is a program that is

is a free emulator it may be a false positive. best to just go ahead
and use an online scanner to recheck the file in question.
kaspersky.has a good online scan for single files. so you may want to
run your file thru their scanner. her is the link:

Subject: [Blind-Computing] AVG threat detection inquiry

Hi list,
It's AC. I am running the latest version of AVG 8.5 Pro. I was doing
some

PC maintenance when the following dialogue appeared on completion of me
running the Disc Cleanup program.

Resident Shield alert
Accessed file information
Information
File name: C:\Program Files\WinFrotzTTS\FrotzDeutsch.dll
Threat name: Multiple runtime compression pec2,upx
Detected on open.
More information about this threat ...
not checked Remove threat as Power User
Add to Exceptions Ignoregraphic 895
graphic 945 Hide details
Process name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cleanmgr.exe
Process ID: 2516

What does this mean, and what should I do? I have the option of
adding it

to my exceptions or ignoring it.
Well, I clicked on ignore and the dialogue box closed. I haven't used
the

WindowFrotz-TTS program in a while, so I don't know what could be going
on.
Any guidance with this matter would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

[Blind-Computing] getting some windows 7 help and eudora questions

2013-03-01 Thread randy tijerina

hello everyone, Randy here. I'm using windows 7 home premium.
my xp machine croaked on me.
anyhow, what are some helpful hints to make windows 7 a little like
windows xp or better?

also is windows firewall accessible? or shall i get another one?
what's a good antivirus/spyware program?
also, I'm using iE9. i'm trying to figure out how i can change the
layout so when i download i get a save run etc. I have to his
alt-control-N to run it. I know that's risky.
also, in eudora how can i get it to where jaws can read the nams of
the sender, the subject of the message that sort of thing?

sorry for the barrage of questions.
I'm catching up.
