Re: [Blind-Computing] Using Spell Check - Was: select excel nonadjacent rows and columns

2012-05-25 Thread tcorson2
This seems to be a growing issue with email lists that I have been on. What
is really getting out of line is the IPhone users who use Siri and do not
proof read. We have pretty much an uphill battle to be respected as
intelligent and capable people who happen to be blind, so the simple tasks
such as proof reading and using spell check should be considered.

Considering how many of us on this list rely on JAWS I have to comment on
the importance of using a spell check when sending off e-mail. I don't mean
to pick anybody here so please don't take it that way. It's just that it's
much more than considerate for correct spelling to appear on these blind
lists because of how a screen reader might mangle a word that looks "close
enough."

The plea should read, "kindly let me know how to select non adjacent rows
and columns in a excel 2007."

Woops, I meant control plus h is find and replace and you have to tab
through the dialog box.

I don't know which program you are referring to, but in word, control h plus
is find and replace.

Hope that is what you are looking for.

I'm looking for a keystroke, that I haven't used in some time, that works as
follows.

Upon applying this combination, you are asked what you wish to change. Whhen
the object of the search as been indicated, you are asked, "change to what,"
or something in that direction.

What is that keystroke?

My office suite is Microsoft 2003.

Hello.
Before you decide on a scanning program, check out
http://www.readingmadeez.com/products/TextClonerPro.html
I've been using it for several years. It does the job quite nicely for me
and at a fraction of the cost of other programs. Cost is $99.95 and you
can

download a trial version to check out.

Hello everyone.

Finally got a scanner for the first time in years. Just wondering if
anyone uses standard commercial OCR software (iE, not kurzweil or
OpenBook) and which ones you feel most comfortable with? I may shell out
for Open Book, but I'm not the only one using this computer, and it'd be
nice if I could just acquire a standard OCR package. I remember someone
telling me years ago that something they were using worked well with JAWS
and possibly other screenreaders as well...may have been FineReader, but
I can't honestly remember. So, any experiences to share?

Hi Donna!
Yes, (D) is a smiley in WLM for Martini so JAWS also recognizes it; try
unchecking "show emoticons" in the messages list under tools/options or try
some alternatives like small d instead or just D) without the left
parenthesis if it's also acceptable on their part.

Type with no spaces, left parenthesis then Capital d and then right
parenthesis.

I was voting on something and did this and thought I was voting for the D
option and Jaws said martini glass. I then called my sighted husband in to
look and it showed a martini. Am I going crazy? I don’t particularly like
martinis, but what the heck!

That's interesting if not a bit troublesome to hear it is blocked out on the

None of the mainstream OCR programs like ABBYY Fine Reader
or Reading Made EZ are as comprehensive or feature-laden as
Open Book. For instance, Open Book has a currency
identification feature and a photo copying feature, neither
of which are available in mainstream OCR programs.

[Blind-Computing] Weird Jaws

2011-12-23 Thread tcorson2
When I turned off the computer last night everything was fine. When I turned
it on this morning, I had two versions of jaws running and it was really funny
hearing the stereo voices. I could not tell which versions were running, so
unloaded one and then unloaded the other and then turned Jaws back on with the
hot key. Weird Jaws!
