Re: [Blind-Computing] Java Access Bridge
What version of the Java Access Bridge do you have? Looking at the zip contents it looks like it could be version 1.2. The latest version I have seen is 2.0 and has been around for a while. Of course, I am just guessing. Sun has always confused me with their version numbering. Their should be a link on the previously provided link for the Java runtime to download the latest Java Access Bridge as well. Re: [Blind-Computing] Java Access Bridge
Hi It may help to install the Java access bridge. However, it may not solve every issue either. I install it on my machine and I am sure it helps. Re: [Blind-Computing] java access bridge
Victor, Thank you for the explanation. My tech said he didn't need Java and that I was probably correct that it was installed when the XP went to the shop in the fall and he uninstalled it, so I don't have to do anything with Access Bridge. Margaret "Victor Gouveia" wrote: Hi Margaret, Dual booting means that a screen pops up before Windows loads up asking you which version of windows you would like to boot into. He is using XP pro on his computer, but he has the ability to boot into Various versions of 95, 98, XP home and even Vista. When he boots up his computer, he will get a screen asking him which version he would like to boot into, which he then selects and can operate his computer using the particular version. This also comes in handy when he has to dispense telephone support, he can boot into the same version of Windows as the client, then he can advise them accordingly. Just like some people have multiple versions of Jaws installed on their computers, for reasons I would imagine are the same, so too do people install multiple versions of Windows. In terms of the message of installing it in a non-standard location, this simply means if you're going to install it on another drive other than the C drive, or even change the folder that the installer wants to install into. If none of these factors apply, I don't see what the harm is in installing it. Re: [Blind-Computing] java access bridge
Marvin, Rick, and All, I followed some links on the URL that Marvin gave and think I finally found a link to download Access Bridge at http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/accessibility/accessbridge/index.jsp However, there is a note that says "Please note: if your system is configured for dual booting or has the Program Files directory in a non-standard location, you must do a manual installation of the Java Access Bridge." I don't think my system is configured for dual booting, but I don't even know what that is and I have no idea if the files are in a standard location since, as far as I know, I wasn't the one who installed them. I'm going to take Rick's advice and wait for my tech. If this is the right thing, maybe it could be added to one of the web sites so someone else won't have to hunt for it. Thanks to everybody who helped. Re: [Blind-Computing] Java Access Bridge for XP Home?
Rick, Waiting for more information from my tech is an idea since I have a feeling that he might have installed something with JAVA and, as far as I know, I have no direct need for it except that there was a discussion on another list about Access Bridge possibly helping with the slowness some people, including me, experience at amazon.com. A couple claim they saw improvement after installing Access Bridge while others said it wouldn't have anything to do with the site. I don't know enough about the issue to know which "side" might be right and thought I could try for a "twofer."
