Re: [Blind-Computing] MSE update failures

2010-08-12 Thread David

Hello there;

one way to check to see which update you have is to,

1, desktop,

2, MSE press enter,

3, now tab until you hear, home button,

4, right arrow one time you should hear,
update button,

5, now route jaws to pc, and read the information,
you should see/hear something like;

Microsoft Security Essentials
Computer status - Protected
Virus & spyware definitions status - Up to date
Microsoft Security Essentials updates your virus & spyware definitions
automatically to help protect your computer.

Definitions created on: 8/11/2010 at 5:25 AM
Virus definitions version: 1.87.1709.0 Update
Spyware definitions version: 1.87.1709.0
Did you know?
Virus & spyware definitions are files that Microsoft Security Essentials
uses to identify malicious or potentially unwanted software on your

computer.
These definitions are updated automatically. However, if for any reason your
computer's definitions don't get updated automatically, you

should get the latest updates to help protect your computer.

I hope this helps.

2010-08-11 Thread Margaret Thomas
I have automatic updates turned on and the latest bunch still wasn't in my
sys tray earlier this afternoon when I remembered to look before reading
this thread. There were about 13 and it took ages for the machine to check
for updates and supposedly download and install all of them. I'll have to
go through the whole thing all over again since I don't remember any of the
13 being for IE. Yes, I had it reboot for them to take effect.

I heard about them from tech podcasts. I did not go looking for them, they
were waiting to be downloaded and installed from the System Tray Tuesday
night. I like to set the update setting so that I am aware of updates.
This does require the user to be viligent! For most people, including my
adault kids, I recommend automatic updates.

Open Windows Update and check for Updates. If you use automatic updates,
you can check update history to see if the IE8 and Windows 7 security
updates were installed this week.

Yes. In fact, even though I have it set just to notify me if important
updates, so that I can review them before installing, it will still update
