Re: [Blind-Computing] Defragging and Maintenance for Win/7

hi Trish,

defragmenting more than once a month is as far as I see and know useless
unless your doing a lot of file intensive and altering things on a daily
basis.

about once a month is more than enough for most regular computer users, just
you need to remember to do it then!

I use a alternative to the windows defragmentation application that is
faster than the windows version called auslogics disk defragmentation:
http://auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag

but if you wish to work with and re assign the time of the windows
application, it is in my windows 7 useful hints download off my grab bag
site:
http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com

along with numerous other useful hints for windows 7 use and repair.

or you can follow the tips out of one of it's files, windows 7 tips and
tricks below:
Setting up scheduled defrags is easy:
1. Click the Start button, type defrag, and click Disk Defragmenter.
2. Click Configure schedule.
3. Choose a time when your computer is turned on, but you are not using it.
4. Click OK and Close to save your settings

Your disk will now be defragmented regularly.

Hello,

Where do I find the Defrag for window's 7? I did search and thought I found
it but it vanished..

I tried going through control panel, found the maintenance button almost
entered on it, but didn't want to get somewhere that I could do more harm
than good.

So, do I envoke this maintenace button or not? Also, when I found the
defrag, it said it was set to defrag at 2/a.m. each morning, well now...I am

in the habit of shutting down my laptop each night, so should I leave it on
so it can do this defragging?

Thanks for help,

Trish

Hello. If I remember correctly, the defrag option should be
under maintenance in the control panel. You can also access it
by going to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, and
then selecting disk defragmenter. As for whether or not you
leave your laptop turned on, that is a personal choice. If you
leave it on, it will automatically defrag at whatever time you
have set. But leaving it on obviously consumes power, either
from the battery or the ac adapter.

As in Windows XP, I just go to, Computer, select the drive I want,
and then open the properties to perform cleanup and defrag.

Thanks Josh, I wasn't aware I could do it this same way as I had done in xp,
that's pretty handy. I did find it as well through search, hmm maybe I
misspelled it or something.

Hi,
You can also find it by going to computer, press Alt+enter on your C
Drive, now press control+Tab, tab once, and you should see it in there.
