[BlindHandyMan] Questions about Heating?

2008-12-22 Thread Claudia
Hello All,

Our utility company came, during the early part of the week, and they set
our furnace to run more efficiently, so the whole unit is turning off again,
as it should.

However, here is my questions. Our bedroom is an edition that was built
onto the house, and it is a pretty large room. There are two floor vents in
this room, and sometimes, the furnace doesn't adequately heat the room. So,
we had a blower or booster, not sure what it's called, installed a few years
back. At first, it did work, making the room significantly warmer. Now
however, it normaly does not work during the winter months but does work,
during the summer, when we're using the central air portion of the system!

Any ideas why this might be?
And, if not, what can we do, to get this room warmer for us, in the winter?
Thanks.

what is a task light? is that just to keep the engine warm? I remember

liking the idea of having the solar hookup. so as blind folks we go

or is it better than using a piece of 12-2 or 14-2 whire/ romex wire? I
could also tag it into a whire I have coming out of the house which goes

We have a cat, so we have to buy cat litter. The litter we buy comes in a
large square plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. This is what I use
to store ice melt, and it works very well, even though I rarely use the
stuff. So, get a cat.

Last year I purchased a more expensive ice melt that is safe for my guide
dog. It is non toxic so also safe for plants.
I then bought a 5 gal paint bucket for storage of the 50 pounds. The lid was

not a tight seal and now I have a 5 gal rock. I can break it up to use it
but wondering how to store it. There is also a shake dispenser container in

which the ice melt did not get hard. I assume it is because it had a tight
lid. I am wondering if I took some silicone calk and ran a bead around the
inside of the lid and let it dry would it act as a sealing gasket?

2008-12-22 Thread Lee A. Stone

I would also be interested if the plumbing or heat pipes to that
new addition are insulated. often the farthestheat vent fro the
furnace is much colder as the heat or fan first comes on, if that
piping/ plumbing is in a cold air space. Lee

Hi,

I get mine from Lee Valley. Don't know if you would pay duty but the dollar
is now in your favour. The site will give prices in U.S. dollars. You can
buy aluminum 'T' track that size or some sort of high density Poly. Both
come in 24, 36 and 48 inch lengths. I just used a couple of 6 inch lengths
of the poly to make a box joint jig, it is sort of self lubricating and
tough as hell!

www.leevalley.com

The site is really very Jaws friendly. It is under Woodworking and Jig and
fixture parts I think.

Let me know if you need further help I can probably get you the direct URL.

2008-12-22 Thread Terry Klarich
Hello All:

I'm new to the list. And, have been reading the mail in the background for a
few weeks. I am a avid sailer and wood worker. I am
totally blind as well.

As far as the table saw runners go, I would highly recommend the steal runners
from www.woodpeck.com. The have almost no slop in a
3/4 slot. However, they will not work on the cheaper ridgid or craftsman saws
because the slots are not quite 3/4. These runners
are tapped with several 1/4x20 holes. They will last a life time. I've built
cutoff sleds, tennoning jigs, box joint jigss, ...
They also work very well on router tables, bandsaws, sanders.

They do not have the means to grip a T slot. Any jig can be lifted out of the
slot.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] making table saw jigs

2008-12-22 Thread Lenny McHugh
Dale, thanks, that is what I am looking for the poly. I have some aluminum
but want something that is easily cut. I want to make one jig that will be
used to make a 1/4 tennon on stock that is 1-1/2 wide. This jig will only
be about three inches long spanning the dado blade and riding in both
tracks. After I make the slot cut I plan to glue in a stop block. I have
several other jigs in mind but this will be the first using that material

Several places sell them. One of the places I use a lot is Peachtree.
Their web site is ptreeusa.com
Sometimes you can find things on Amazon that are less than what they sell
their own things for. Here is what Amazon said about the Peachtree miter
bar.

Works with standard 3/4 x 3/8 miter gauges with a T-slot
a.. Slides into miter track or miter slot on your table mounted tools
a.. Add a miter or sliding fixture to anything that can be routed to fit
Miter Track
a.. Use on table saw extensions, drill press tables band saw tables

$15.99 + $6.75 shipping
In Stock. Ships from and sold by Peachtree Woodworking Supply Inc

I went to the Peachtree site and typed in miter bar in the search box and
their 48 inch bar comes with a 48 inch T track as well.

Their ad says:
Our T-Track is made in the USA out of 90% recycled aluminum to help
our environment. The T-Track has a 1/8 wall which will not bow or twist and
allows for everyday heavy use. The key to our system is a standard 3/8 hex
head bolt that slides into the track. No more hunting for hard to find
T-bolts or special locking pieces. The T-Track is perfect for building jigs
and fixtures for your radial arm saw, workbench, drill press, miter saw, and
various other machines. Our T-Track also works well for mounting
anti-kickback devices to your table saw fence or router table fence

I'm new to the list. And, have been reading the mail in the background for a
few weeks. I am a avid sailer and wood worker. I am
  totally blind as well.

As far as the table saw runners go, I would highly recommend the steal
runners from www.woodpeck.com.

Any jig can be lifted out of the
slot.

[BlindHandyMan] quick table saw jig

2008-12-22 Thread Lenny McHugh
I was just talking to a friend who was a woodworker. He told me about a
technique that he uses for making quick jigs. His runners are at least 1/8
narrower and a little thinner than 3/8. He puts something in the track to
hold the runner proud of the table surface and pieces of folded paper in the
inside of each runner. this keeps the runners tight against the outside
edges of the tracks. He then aligns his rip fence to the right of the right
track where he wants the jig to end. Using a quick drying glue he puts some
on each runner then takes his plywood against the fence and drops it on the
runners. Places a weight over the tracks and comes back after a cup of
coffee to finish the jig. By making it less than the 3/4 inch and so that
it does not slide along the bottom there virtually is no binding. I just
might have to give that one a try.
He said that it is so quick because there is no measuring or screwing
runners.
The last one that I made I used a little double sided tape on the metal
runners. Then carefully placing the plywood on top. by lifting and flipping
the jig I was easily able to screw the runners to the plywood. His technique
appears to be so much simpler.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] quick table saw jig

2008-12-22 Thread Dale Leavens
I made the slides a little long, wedged them into the slots then just
eye-balled and drilled and countersunk a hole through the base and into the
slides and screwed short screws through the top side of the base and into
the slides. No guess work at all.

I don't much like using glue that way but I suppose once set up one could
also screw or bolt.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] storing ice melt

2008-12-22 Thread Spiro
I had a big bucket of that stuff harden once. It had also started to work
on the metal bucket. So the moment I poured hot water into it; (to losen
it and help me with the mountain of ice I had to face) the bottom
literally dropped out. So we threw ice melt shush up the path and it
turned out okay. I find the plastic bags inside the boxes I get from
McMaster, hold the stuff rather well. I scoop with a big plastic cup into
a big tupperware and I walk with that to distribute about 5 lbs at a time.

On Sun, 21 Dec 2008, Lenny McHugh wrote:

Last year I purchased a more expensive ice melt that is safe for my guide
dog. It is non toxic so also safe for plants.
I then bought a 5 gal paint bucket for storage of the 50 pounds. The lid was
not a tight seal and now I have a 5 gal rock. I can break it up to use it
but wondering how to store it. There is also a shake dispenser container in
which the ice melt did not get hard. I assume it is because it had a tight
lid. I am wondering if I took some silicone calk and ran a bead around the
inside of the lid and let it dry would it act as a sealing gasket?

clumby and a verb like prance

Last year I purchased a more expensive ice melt that is safe for my guide
dog. It is non toxic so also safe for plants.
I then bought a 5 gal paint bucket for storage of the 50 pounds. The lid
 was
not a tight seal and now I have a 5 gal rock. I can break it up to use it
but wondering how to store it. There is also a shake dispenser container
 in
which the ice melt did not get hard. I assume it is because it had a tight
lid. I am wondering if I took some silicone calk and ran a bead around the
inside of the lid and let it dry would it act as a sealing gasket?

a task light is that oval half shielded bulb that you can hang anywhere? I

but I think the light isn't weatherproof as it hangs bulb up. Thus rain

Clothing detergent powder comes in big plastic containers with a lid, that
