I don't understand why people create false personas to hide behind them so they can cause mischief. Whenever I run across it I wonder what their motivation is, just like when I see people deliberately litter. Now I try to ignore them or just leave the site, rather than engage. ___ http://mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l_mccmedia.com
Re: The worst
Something I've been meaning to mention here about my sister For a number of years, she taught English at a high school in St. Thomas, USVI. I went there to visit her and saw that she had a bunch of David Brin's books on her shelf - she was a big fan! Boy, was she tickled to discover that I knew David. Somewhere in her things, she has a couple of autographed first editions with personal notes. Come to think of it, I should make sure those books don't go to Goodwll or something! I better let my parents know. Nick ___ http://mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l_mccmedia.com

Not sure if I have ever really talked about it on the list, but my wife and I are part of a team that does a lot of crisis intervention and grief counseling (we were just sitting down with a family hit by suicide when I got the first news that Lesley was so sick). One thing I have learned is that life never returns to the old normal. What we can do is create a new normal... but I'm not even ready to think about that yet. I'm still just in the hurt. Thank you, everyone, for all the kind words. They mean more than I could ever explain. Nick ___ http://mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l_mccmedia.com

Hope I'm not stepping any toes, but I've exported the files listed below from Wikipedia (with full edit histories) and imported them to htyp.org -- for safekeeping, if nothing else. (I'll tidy them up and integrate them properly later, as soon as I get a chance.) Others are welcome to re-copy them within the terms of Wikipedia's license, of course. htyp.org has always been open for this sort of content. The other Brin-L still exists (although list traffic is low) and will remain active. The Brin-L.com website will also remain up and running. The Alliance for Progress Encyclopedia was added to it recently, further plans include updating various pages and doing a bit of redesign. Plus of course the overhaul of the A4P Encyclopedia. > I'd suppose that the archives for the two lists > should eventually be merged somehow. Why should those archives be merged? They share the name "Brin-L" but other than that they're separate mailing lists. Ohmygawd, archives. That just brought back memories of my second-largest project ever: The Great Brin-L Archive... > But in the > short term, how about putting up a link to > this list? That will certainly happen in the near future. In fact, once inspiration and sufficient nothing-better-to-do time will come to me I will even create a new website about this List. A little over a year ago I once again became the owner of the Brin-L.net domain name, but so far all it does is autoforward to the Brin-L.com website and provide me with an e-mail address to subscribe to this List (as you may have noticed from the headers). I haven't yet figured out what else to do with it, so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know!
