Linode also has a vps for $10/mth which has been pretty great for me so far and
provides what CakePHP needs. Their support has been pretty great from the few
times I have needed to use it.

Hi Jose,

I am using Hostgator since last 5 years they have instant support for any
issue with toll free number. I see digital ocean has no quick
support https://www.digitalocean.com/company/contact. This is the first
time I face issue with hostgator.

Thanks

Re: cakephp 3.0 supporting web hosting list

2015-02-26 Thread José Lorenzo
That is a lot of money! I guess you are hosting plenty sites in that server.

You can compare with DigitalOcean, for example, you get a very decent
server for 160$ a year. https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing/

It requires a bit of server management knowledge, though. That is what you
are paying for in hostgator.

extension. My ticket on hosgator is in pending status since last 45 days. I
keep emailing/phone call them to resolve the ticket. But same response they
cannot support INTL. I am waiting till final version of cakephp 3.0 release

Thanks I will try to switch on godaddy.

Even godaddy supports 5.4 and intl, and I wouldn't say they are expensive.

Ask your provider to install the intl extension, as it comes by a default
in php 5.4. The more people asking for it, the quicker they will install it
:)

Hi Jose,

I am using shared hosting from hostgator.com (business plan) with php
5.4.38 and they do not support INTL extension also VPS solution of
hostgator does not support INTL. Other provider's VPS may support INTL as

But what I am thinking, only rich people can use cakephp 3.0 because they
can only afford VPS cost. The only issue is INTL extension.
what do you think how middle class people will use cakephp 3.0 ?

Thanks

Basically any provider that has a VPS option, or that you can mount a
server image (Amazon AWS, DigitalOcean, Pagodabox, EngineYard,
Rackspace)

Her you have a list of shared hosts, look for those supporting php 5.4 and
above http://phpversions.info/

Re: Cakephp website/app to a new domain and hosting

2014-06-30 Thread adam_g2000
Can I take it that you have had this site built for you, but are not the
original developer? If this is the case you would be wise to find someone
local to assist you. Some hosting companies will offer to move a site like
this for you. The one we frequently use here in New Zealand will do exactly
that.

You will need to acquire the Database, and all of the files from the
current hosting solution.

If you want to move the site yourself, you have no other choice than to
read the very good documentation that can be found
here: http://book.cakephp.org/2.0/en/installation.html this will help you
source a server that can host it and will give you the information you need
to set up the config files to the new server/database details.

Re: CakePHP BlueHost Shared Hosting

2013-09-15 Thread kdubya
Is the Webroot you show in your directory structure the CakePHP one? If so,
you have put it in the wrong place. It should be app/webroot (unless you
want to do non-standard setup - if so you need to look very carefully at
how you configure your .htaccess directives).

It seems like you are just starting to use CakePHP. I would suggest you put
CakePHP in a subdirectory. i.e.

public_html/
->gallery
->/
->/app
->/lib

Be sure to move the .htaccess file that Cake put in your public_html
directory down in the subdirectory for your app. If you had a .htaccess
file in public_html before you put CakePHP there, you probably want to
replace it.

HTH,
Ken

CakePHP BlueHost Shared Hosting

I am having a little trouble getting my set up and wondered if you could
help.

The directory structure is as follows:
public_html/
->App
->Lib
->Webroot
->gallery (non-cakephp)

etc.

I am having difficulty because cakephp has taken over the whole site and I
only want it to respond to the main folder but it does it to my subdomain
folders as well.

What should I do?

Re: Defining root directory for shared hosting

2013-09-12 Thread kdubya
You should NOT need to change anything in the file app/index.php. You have
not given enough information about you installation for us to help. For
instance, where (in relation to your webserver document root) did you put
CakePHP. If you did a standard installation and put it in the document root
directly, just go to and you should see the the CakePHP
welcome screen. It will tell you from there what needs to be done next
(like setting up your database connection).

If you don't see the welcome screen, and given that you are on a shared
server, you probably don't have mod_rewrite configured on the server
correctly. Try looking here:
http://book.cakephp.org/2.0/en/installation/url-rewriting.html

The installation instructions at
http://book.cakephp.org/2.0/en/getting-started.html are really very good
and you should follow them. BTW, they say nothing about modifying
app/index.php. Follow the instructions and you will get it done.

Re: uppercase letter names in controller not working in shared hosting

2013-03-29 Thread euromark
Please follow conventions as documented.

If you got a controller in CamelCase (NotificationMessages), the access via
url is always underscored: /notification_messages/action_name etc

How are you constructing the URLs? If I remember correctly, it should be
'controller' => 'notification_message'.

uppercase letter names in controller not working in shared hosting

2013-03-28 Thread Soumya Ranjan sahu
I have a cakephp site on bluehost. I have several contollers and some are
named with 2  uppercase letters, i.e:- NotificationMessagesContoller.php
while others are with 1 uppercase letters, i.e:- UsersController.php

The Users controller working fine but the NotificationMessage contoller
shows problem like this "Missing controller: Error:
NotificationmessageController not found ;
createNotificationmessageController class in the .php file"

If I run the cakephp site on any localhost, all the links are working
perfectly without any error.

Is there anybody who has faced this issue any time ?

Thanks for help

You will have to add proper RewriteBase to each of the htaccess that the

mod_rewrite is definitely enabled, since I just tried with a

redirected me correctly.

Installing a Cake app on OVH, with shared hosting

2011-11-18 Thread wilecoyote42
Hi all:

I'm trying to install a CakePHP 2.0 app on a shared hosting account
with OVH, and I'm having a really hard time getting mod_rewrite to
work. After searching this group, I've found several people with the
same problem and talking about OVH's "exotic" Apache setup, but
without any specific details about how to set things up so that they
work, so I'm writing to see if anybody can give me a hand. Here are my
details:

1) I have a website with the web root at 'www/' (which is OVH's
standard setup), and I've created a subdomain, which is what I want my
Cake app to serve. The subdomain's web root points at 'www/
app_paintball/'; within this folder, I have the default CakePHP tree,
with no changes (i.e., the 'webroot/' folder is within the 'app/'
folder).

2) I've read the OVH guide about mod_rewrite (http://help.ovh.co.uk/
HtaccessModRewrite), and I've changed my .htaccess files accordingly.
For example, the one at CakePHP's root is now like this:

   RewriteEngine on
   RewriteRule^$ /app/webroot/[L]
   RewriteRule(.*) /app/webroot/$1 [L]

And the one inside /app/webroot/ is now like this:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php?/$1 [QSA,L]

3) The problem I'm having is that, for example, if I try to access a
URL like http://probando.mydomainname.com/Videos/ver, Cake responds
with an error saying "Error: VerController could not be found." (There
IS a "VideosController.php", and within it there IS an action called
"ver"; in my local testing setup it all works perfectly). My
impression is that there's something in mod_rewrite that isn't working
correctly, and thus the Cake engine thinks that "ver" is the name of
the controller, when it's the action.

Things I've tried:

-Leave the .htaccess files as they came originally with CakePHP, but
just adding a "RewriteBase: /" before the rules.
-Point the subdomain's web root to '/www/app_paintball/app/webroot',
i.e., directly to the CakePHP's webroot.
-I also put a debug PHP script in the subdomain, to find out about
Apache's variables, and it says the following:

 DOCUMENT_ROOT = /homez.443/[my_username]/www/app_paintball
 SCRIPT_FILENAME = /homez.443/[my_username]/www/app_paintball/
[my_debugscriptname].php

Disclaimer: I just started learning CakePHP a week ago, and my
mod_rewrite knowledge has never been too great (and it's been years
since I had to touch it). I don't really know what else to do. Can
anyone help?

Paulo.

Cake 2.0 1&1 hosting and htaccess problem

2011-09-20 Thread Raph
The problem is weird. We have two 1&1 linux servers managed by 1&1. On
development server we have weird errors because Cake "thinks" that its
base directory is directory above real base directory. The problem
dosen't occur on production server.

The weirdest thing is that older versions of Cake (1.2.x, 1.3.x) work
fine on development server.

Does anyone have experience with Cake 2.0 and 1&1 hosting

Re: cakephp shared hosting question

2011-03-10 Thread Tan Cheng
Hi everyone,

It seems like I kind of solved this problem. Thanks to everyone's
help, I learned a lot through the process.

Just in case anybody is having similar issue, here is what I did, I'm
really a novice, so I can't explain why every step is necessary, but
it works for me:

1) I followed a youtube tutorial talking about the configuration on
shared hosting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GobWo1rIkE&tracker=False

2) After I've done that, it worked for my homepage, but the rest pages
are still 404 error. So I finally found a tutorial here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1214658/cakephp-shared-hosting-dilemma/5262323#5262323
The reason I failed was because my domain looks like www.example.com/~username,

So in the .htaccess file located in your public_html folder, you need
to add the rewriteBase /~username/. So this is really a special case
for me, isn't necessary for everyone. And later if I change to a more
standard domain, I should remove this line.

That's it.

Happy Baking.

-David

Re: cakephp shared hosting question

2011-03-10 Thread thatsgreat2345
You said you wanted to have the website be example.com/exceltv so what
you can do is put webroot in public_html then just rename it to
exceltv

(the files inside webroot will now be in a folder called exceltv in
public_html)

Thanks for your help.

I have a question, when you say "put your webroot in your public_html
", do you mean put the "webroot" folder in public_html, or you mean
put the files in the webroot in the "public_html"?

Thanks!!

Re: cakephp shared hosting question

2011-03-09 Thread thatsgreat2345
I guess I should have used your example folder

where I said folder_you_want_to_access_your_site_through, name that
exceltv
and you can call your app folder whatever you want

This way, if you want to run multiple cake sites on your shared host
you will have all the apps inside your cake folder
Then make a new folder in public_html, and change that path properties
to what i posted there and you only have to have one cake core, but
multiple apps

Re: cakephp shared hosting question

2011-03-09 Thread thatsgreat2345
You need to put your webroot in your public_html and then change your
index.php file in webroot to point to your cake root and your app path

This is how I have it setup.

/cake
/appnamehere
/controllers
/models
/other stuff
/cake
/vendors
/tests
/other folders and files that come with cake

/public_html
/folder_you_want_to_access_your_site_through (example.com/
folder_you_want_to_access_your_site_through)

Inside index.php that is in your
webroot(folder_you_want_to_access_your_site_through/index.php)

Change to root to
if (!defined('ROOT')) {
define('ROOT', dirname(dirname(dirname(__FILE__))) . DS .
'cake');
}

And this to

if (!defined('APP_DIR')) {
define('APP_DIR', 'appnamehere' );
}

Should work now

cakephp shared hosting question

2011-03-09 Thread Tan Cheng
Hi everyone,

My boss wants the project I'm working with cakephp to be seen on a
host as soon as possible.

I signed up with Cirtex hosting, but when I upload, it doesn't work
directly, I am contacting them to change the mod_rewrite and some
other settings, but I don't want to sit here and waiting for them. I
just started this job and want to "impress" my boss what I have done
so far...

So, here is my question, has anyone of you know a shared hosting plan,
that I can upload my app folders, setup the database, and it just
works...

Here is the structure of my app, it's called exceltv, of course there
will be other files, I list the main ones...

/excetv
/app
   /models
   /controllers
   /views
   /webroot
/cake
/plugins
/vendors

I hope I can launch www.example.com/exceltv, and it will just work...

I am really in a hurry and don't know much about how the htaccess
works, any help really appreciated!!

Thanks.

-David

Cakephp : Shared Hosting (htaccess modified)

2011-02-14 Thread apps_bender
Hello Guys,
Good day!.. Just wondering if anyone find time to help me here.

I am currently working large file cakephp application more than 10mb
per file.
I came accross of modifying my php.ini and htaccess.

After I login in my account I added this to my htaccess.

Options +ExecCGI
AddHandler php5-cgi .php
Action php-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-custom-ini.cgi
Action php5-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-custom-ini.cgi

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{ENV:REDIRECT_STATUS} 200
RewriteRule .* - [L]
RewriteRule^$ app/webroot/[L]
RewriteRule(.*) app/webroot/$1 [L]

and Yes it work well.

But Then I found out lately, if this htacess will be loaded to my
hosting before I login. I can't get into my dashboard and it keeps
coming back to login page not even throwing any error message.

Any Idea how to resolve this??

Cakephp's email component doesn't support Auth, so you could use
http://swiftmailer.org/ as a vendor. It also has a multitude of features
and thorough documentation.

Re: App:import not working on hosting providers

2011-01-16 Thread roman_coder

I updated the path to be relative to the plugin/vendor directory and
it worked!

App::import('Vendor', 'Upload.S3', array('file'=>'S3/S3.php'));

I'm not sure why this plugin wasn't getting found automatically but it
looks like using the file option fixed it.

Thanks for the help!

The 'file' option path should be relative from your app/vendors
directory. So, no slash at the beginning, for starters. But you've got
this in a plugin's vendors dir for some reason. Are you sure that's
where you want it?

Unfortunately, the $search array option is not well documented. You
may need to peruse the source to figure it out.

thanks for the quick response. I've cleared my cache a number of times
but I have the same problem. The plugin isn't finding the file.

Any tips on how to debug this? I've been adding debug echo statements
in the cake/lib trying to find where the include is. I'm sure there
is a better way of doing this.

App:import not working on hosting providers

2011-01-15 Thread roman_coder
I'm working on Cakephp 1.3.6 and leveraging JonBradley's S3 plugin
(https://github.com/jonbradley/CakePHP-S3-Upload).  It works great on
my local dev box but once I put it on a hosting provider I get the
class not found error. I've tried both Joyent (old TextDrive & 1and1)
& got the same error.

Fatal error: Class 'S3' not found in /homepages/6/d271502791/htdocs/
demo/app/plugins/upload/controllers/components/upload.php on line 26

The import for the S3 class is here: -upload.php on line 26.

App::import('Vendor', 'Upload.S3');

I've even tried the below and got the same error:

App::import('Vendor', 'Upload.S3', array('file'=>'/demo/app/plugins/
upload/vendors/S3/S3.php'));

Anyone have any ideas why it's not finding this class?

Re: yahoo web hosting problem

2010-11-16 Thread fadhli
sorry my english is bad. :( but i will try again to explain it for you. i
hope u understand this time.

I built a website and use apache as a web server on my computer. then I have
to upload it to yahoo web hosting. in yahoo web hosting does not allow to
upload . htaccess files (so i think they use IIS as web server)

then I followed this tuturial:
http://book.cakephp.org/view/1533/A-Note-on-mod_rewrite, and make my URLs
look like
www.example.com/index.php/controllername/actionname/param
rather Than
www.example.com/controllername/actionname/param.

after i run in yahoo web hosting. i found some new problems. my tinyMCE does
not work like on my computer (apache web server). other than that I can't
upload pictures using my application. I do not know where he had gone but
the session said that the file uploaded successfully.

then I try to display the source in my webbrowser. the result between 2
webserver is different. use and not use prety URLs.
when I dont use prety ULRs the link for javascript URLs look like
and when i use prety ULRs, link to the javascript URLs like this :

then i think the main problem is i have to use prety URLs and find tutorial
http://book.cakephp.org/view/1636/URL-Rewrites-on-IIS7-Windows-hosts and
this
http://blog.knightdna.net/2010/07/enabling-cakephp-pretty-urls-on-iis.html ,
i've follow the tutorials but I do not know where is my fault that make my
website cant run prety URLs well. or this way this way cant be used in
yahoo webhosting? or are there other ways I can use?

i cant change my webhost.

Re: Strange behavior on shared hosting

2010-09-26 Thread Thomas
Thanks Cricket -

For (1) - I removed the 'containable' part completely - falling back
to only pure HABTM on Item into Tag.
On my dev environments, a find('all) on Item retrieved all Items and
all the tags for the items.
On the hosting, though, looking at the SQL debug output and log - only
the one SELECT statement
was called - to retrieve the Items. No subsequent statements to the
Tag and items_tags tables.
(All cache was deleted, tables re-created and all project was deleted
and re-uploaded to the server,
so I don't think it has any caching issues).
A note about the 'contain' use - I know there are different ways to
use it, but I don't think this is the issue,
again - this definitely worked on my local environment.

Playing around a little, I removed the HABTM from the models, and did
a bindModel on the fly:

$this->Item->bindModel(array(
'hasAndBelongsToMany' => array(
'Tag' => array(
'className'=>'Tag',
'joinTable'=>'items_tags',
'foreignKey'=>'item_id',
'associationForeignKey' =>'tag_id',
'uniq'=>true
)
)));

and that works as expected on the shared host.

Could it be that the shared hosting adds a suffix to the tables which
is
somehow 'transparent' to the application, so that suffix_items and
suffix_tags are translated correctly
but the link table (items_tags) is somehow referred to
suffix_items_suffix_tags instead of suffix_items_tags ?
This is a long shot - but I can't think of anything else...

As for issue (2) - you were right. I found it before reading your
reply but still - spot on! Thanks heaps

Weird. First thing I'd do is delete everything in app/tmp/models dir.
Next, check that your model files on the server are up to date. Ditto
for the DB tables.

And, possibly, there's an issue with that Containable syntax. That's
not how I use it.Do you have the exact same version of Cake on the
server as locally? FWIW, this is how I use Containable:

$items = $this->Item->find(
'all',
array(
'order' =>array('Item.created DESC'),
'contain' => array(
'Tag' => array(
'fields' => array(
'Tag.id',

Try passing the path, relative to vendors dir, to the class. eg.

App::import('Vendor', 'phpThumb', false, null, 'phpThumb/phpthumb.class.php');

Strange behavior on shared hosting

2010-09-24 Thread Thomas
Hi,
I have a Cake application that's running perfectly on my local
machines - Windows7 and Os/X (both have XAMPP 1.7.1 with PHP 5.2.9).
I tried to deploy it on a shared hosting environment (PHP 5.2.14) and
it is mostly ok.. However, I get two failures that I can't resolve and
would really appreciate any help.

1) I am using 'Containable' in the following manner:
In app/app_model.php, I specify
var $actsAs = array('containable');

In the 'Item' model: var $hasAndBelongsToMany = array('Tag');

In the 'Tag' model: var $hasAndBelongsToMany = array('Item');

In my controller:
$this->Item->contain('Tag');
$items = $this->Item->find('all',array(
'order' =>array('Item.created DESC'),
    'contain' => array('Tag.id','Tag.name')));

This works very well on my local machines, but once deployed to the
shared hosting I get:

Warning (512): Model "Item" is not associated with model "Tag" [CORE/
cake/libs/model/behaviors/containable.php, line 363]

And the SQL generated only gets the items - not the tags.

2) I am also using the markdown parser class.
I have Markdown_Parser.php in my vendors folder, defining a class
called Markdown_Parser.
 load it in a component like so:

if (!class_exists('Markdown_Parser')) {
App::import('Vendor', 'MarkdownParser');
}
$this->parser = new Markdown_Parser(); //This is line 36

When I call the parser from the controller I get:

Fatal error: Class 'Markdown_Parser' not found in /home/narp/
public_html/yarp/app/controllers/components/markdown.php on line 36

Any help will be very much appreciated...
Thanks

Do not use Godaddy. They have so many restrictions you have to get
around and its annoying.

Go with something easy like Dreamhost, MediaTemple, Slicehost, etc.

If not CakePHP any other Application Framework for PHP & MySql?

Re: hosting problem

f you don't want or can't get mod_rewrite (or some other compatible module)
up and running on your server, you'll need to use Cake's built in pretty
URLs. In /app/config/core.php, uncomment the line that looks like:
Plain Text View <http://book.cakephp.org/view/333/A-Note-on-mod_rewrite#>

   1. Configure::write('App.baseUrl', env('SCRIPT_NAME'));

Also remove these .htaccess files:
Plain Text View <http://book.cakephp.org/view/333/A-Note-on-mod_rewrite#>

   1. /.htaccess
   2. /app/.htaccess
   3. /app/webroot/.htaccess
   4.

This will make your URLs look like
www.example.com/index.php/controllername/actionname/param rather than
www.example.com/controllername/actionname/param.
"

thanks it works.

but how about .gitignore ?

Godaddy hosting and mod_rewrite

2010-07-06 Thread Jay
Hi All:

  I have a godaddy hosting account and having some problems with
routing. The files are under /cakephp under the default /html folder.
The full url is still showing instead of the desired www.domain.org
Please help.

The current setup

/cakephp/.htaccess

   RewriteEngine on
   RewriteBase /cakephp
   RewriteRule^$ app/webroot/[L]
   RewriteRule(.*) app/webroot/$1 [L]

/cakephp/app/.htaccess

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /cakephp
RewriteRule^$webroot/[L]
RewriteRule(.*) webroot/$1[L]

/cakephp/app/webroot/.htaccess

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /cakephp/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L]

Another suggestion is www.servint.net. I've been with them for a few years
and they have been pretty good to me.

+++ on VPS. I went that route almost ten years ago and can't imagine
using shared hosting again. Of course, you need to be comfortable
managing a server but there are a lot of control panels available that
(more or less) do a half-way decent job. (Personally, I avoid them,
though) Having a VPS means installing what you need, when you need it,
without a lot of useless junk that's never used except by someone
exploiting some security hole. And you can also install Cake globally
(eg. in /usr/share/php, /var/lib/php, etc.) and create symlinks so as
to quickly switch between Cake versions.

I'll recommend johncompanies.com, which was one of the first to offer
VPS in the US. Their support is EXCELLENT. They obviously know what
they're doing and are prompt (REALLY prompt) and pleasant to deal
with. They didn't just jump on the VPS bandwagon last month. They also
run rsync.net for offsite backups.

Also, A2Hosting.com has some pretty decent VPS packages. I've
currently got 5 servers between those two, running between one and
eight sites on each. I might check out linode.com, though, for my next
server (good to spread things around a bit).

I have similar thoughts on VPS after switching to one.
It's not as easy as shared hosting, but you can find tons of tutorials
online.

Btw, Big THX for the linode.com link. I was searching a affordable VPS
in US and these one is just sweet!

I second that suggestion, after switching to VPSs I'd never switch back.

In the UK I like www.bytemark.co.uk
In the eu www.linode.com have US and uk data centres
Also in the US is www.slicehost.com

I have sites with bytemark and slidehost, linode were lacking a backup
solution but they now have that in place.

It's actually pretty cheap now to get your own VPS, and set it up
exactly how you want to.

I can recommend both HostingZoom + 1&1, faultless service over a
number of years for an excellent price.

Re: Cannot get CakePHP working on GoDaddy Grid Hosting

2010-06-14 Thread Suvlaki
I have a solution. Turns out mod_rewrite is not supported with GoDaddy
Windows grid hosting. It is only supported on Linux hosting plans.

Therefore, I had them switch me to Linux, installed CakePHP, and it
worked without a hitch. If you're going to go with GoDaddy, make sure
you choose Linux.

Yeah you might have to use cake internal rewrite

the following threads poster reports success but he might have been on
godaddy linux - it might be that not using rewritebase and putting */*
index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L] (putting the slash before the rule will make it
work) - there is a general consensus to avoid godaddy; the combo of windows
godaddy might be even worse

Also, I have to go to: http://www.mysite.com/app/webroot/img/cake.icon.png
just to see the cake icon images. I should only have to go to

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Cannot get CakePHP working on GoDaddy Grid Hosting

2010-06-11 Thread Sam Sherlock
you may need to add RewriteBase

You may need to add it to just the root htaccess (but if that does not work
then try adding to other files as shown)

/.htaccess

   RewriteEngine on
   *RewriteBase /*
   RewriteRule^$ app/webroot/[L]
   RewriteRule(.*) app/webroot/$1 [L]

/app/.htaccess

RewriteEngine on
*RewriteBase /app/*
RewriteRule^$webroot/[L]
RewriteRule(.*) webroot/$1[L]

/app/webroot/.htaccess

RewriteEngine On
*RewriteBase /app/webroot/*
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?url=$1 [QSA,L]

Check that you got the .htaccess files transferred to your site!

Cannot get CakePHP working on GoDaddy Grid Hosting

2010-06-11 Thread Suvlaki
I have recently purchased a GoDaddy Windows Grid Hosting account. I am
currently running a CakePHP site on a Linux Shared Server account
without any problems.

I installed CakePHP on the Grid Hosting account but it doesn't seem to
be configured correctly and I cannot get it working no matter what I
try.

1. I installed CakePHP by dragging the 4 folders (cake, app, ...) onto
the grid hosting file system in the "development" setup. I cannot run
the "production" setup as I do not have access to the root with Grid
Hosting.

2. I went to the home page (index) and it seemed to work. CakePHP was
giving me all the warnings about my database and stuff. However, I
noticed that no CSS is being displayed.

3. It seems that I have to qualify the CSS files a little differently
to get them picked up by the server. For instance, $html-
>css('default') does not work but $html->css('/app/webroot/css/
default') works.

4. When I go to www.mysite.com/NoExistController/NoExistView, i should
expect a CakePHP error saying that there is a missing controller.
However, I just receive a GoDaddy 404 file not found error.

This makes me feel that CakePHP is not configured correctly for this
particular server setup.

Any comments? I have waded through the available resources on
CakePHP.org to no avail.

Thank You,
Nick

Well spotted. They must have very long arms.

The error log, incidentally, was /var/log/httpd/error_log

Thanks, Andy. You're quite right. Given that the .htaccess looks
like below, it seems it's not even getting that far. I'll harass the
hosting support team again.

Action php5-script /interpreters/php5-script
AddHandler php5-script .php

   RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/awstats/
   RewriteRule^$ app/webroot/[L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/awstats/
RewriteRule(.*) app/webroot/$1 [L]

I bet this is related: http://www.absolute-escapes.com/user

If you aren't doing that redirect yourself then "According to the
hosting
support team, the word 'users' has no special meaning. " sounds like
that really means they're sitting on their elbows.
