2012-01-26 Thread Thilina Buddhika
Most of the time these externals are set to config files, etc which are
modified hardly. So 95% of the time, it is safe to make that assumption and
exclude svn externals when performing an update. :)

[Carbon-dev] svn externs .. are they worth it? Fwd: More compilation errors in Carbon trunk

2012-01-26 Thread Srinath Perera
When we want to avoid putting the same file in two places .. we are
using svn externs

But they added lot of complexity IMO .. slow down the checkout .. are
they worth it? isn't there a better way? what if we refer to them as
../.. .. etc?

WDYT?

Hi Srinath,
We keep our BPEL engine API wsdls in
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.bpel.skeleton
.
Again we generate a stub and skeleton from the same wsdl.
We use the same mechanism for
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.humantask.skeleton
and
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.humantask.stub.
It'll be hard to maintain these without svn externals.

As well we have a svn extern from
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.bpel.skeleton
to https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/products/bps/modules/samples/product/BPSManagementClient/src/main/resources/mgt
.

Free RAM can be tricky; we can only obtain a instancial value of it as it
changes over the time. Also there can be cases like hosting multiple
servers on the same hardware.

Anyway, nowadays all the OSs have their implemntation of
*optimized*virtual memory. Therefore given that you have enough
physical memory,
performance is good. i.e. no use of having very very large physical memory
for most of well engineered codes (like the stuffs we have :) ) given
that you have sufficiently large physical memory.

Therefore I guess just checking RAM is what we'll need.

Thanks,
 - Chethiya

Hi Srinath,
We keep our BPEL engine API wsdls in
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.bpel.skeleton
 .
Again we generate a stub and skeleton from the same wsdl.
We use the same mechanism for
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.humantask.skeletonand
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.humantask.stub
.
It'll be hard to maintain these without svn externals.

As well we have a svn extern from
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.bpel.skeletonto
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/products/bps/modules/samples/product/BPSManagementClient/src/main/resources/mgt
 .

If we need to remove the externals, then we will have to commit the same
wsdl to two separate locations. I do not think that is a good practice.

Thanks,

Hi Azeez,
Can you check
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.bpel.skeletonand
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.bpel.stub/
are
upto date?

As
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.bpel.stub/
has
an svn external to
https://svn.wso2.org/repos/wso2/trunk/carbon/service-stubs/org.wso2.carbon.bpel.skeletonthis
error may be occurred.

There should not be any half commit. People should commit all relevant
changes in a single commit. (svn treats single commit as
transactional, so you won't get half of a single commit when you
checkout.)

Re: [Carbon-dev] More compilation errors in Carbon trunk

2012-01-26 Thread Dushan Abeyruwan
Hi
I do have a suspicious over the bamboo build strategy, as discussed
Bamboo will trigger if any new commits* within 1 hr gap*, when agent
starts to build* it takes the latest update*, so at the time of bamboo *svn
update there may be halft commits* *(because no body knows when it gets
build*) complete by different groups, so we *can expect compilation
failures during run time,* i think we better to come up with good
building strategy over Bamboo such as , we have to defined time periods
where no group should commits any source with period of time and we need
to build trunk/branch at predefined time (most probably better to build
over night) .. may be this issue due to this.. WDYT ?

cheers,
Dushan

This is because the required feature versions has to be updated to support
the trunk version. Currently it is pointing at [3.1.0, 4.0.0) in
required-features.xml under application-deployers component. But the trunk
version is 4.0.0-SNAPSHOT, so the issue comes. I'm working on this. You can
also try deploying with the released products, where this will not be a
problem.

Thanks.

The platform pom was also updated with new spring version. So i think you
have to update that first and then try building it again. I didn't get this
as i built from root.

Re: [Carbon-dev] Bad API in registry.core HandlerManager

2012-01-26 Thread Afkham Azeez
This class in in really bad shape. It has about 20 maps each correspond to
a method, and in the addHandler methods check for the method doing a String
comparison & add to the relevant map! Really bad OO design. I guess
introducing another class which has the Map & method will greatly reduce
the LOC in this class.

Re: [Carbon-dev] Carbon bootup validator component Architecture + Code review meeting notes - Dileepa

2012-01-26 Thread Dileepa Jayakody
Hi Nirmal,

The list of configurations to be validated are yet to be finalised.
The set of configs added to the current config-validation.xml are a set of
sample validation parameters.
Will finalise the set of configs to be validated in each Validator and
give an update.
First, I'm going to re-factor the current architecture to incorporate the
suggestions made at the review; the list of configs to be validated can be
finalised thereafter.

Thanks,
Dileepa

Re: [Carbon-dev] Error with Deployment Synchronizer

You can ignore that. It is logged at debug level. It binds to the locally
installed svn client.

Above mentioned jars are not direct dependencies in the logging.service
component. Its dependency is to spring.framework orbit bundle.

I tried excluding above mentioned dependencies and then the build was
successful. But, why this failure popped up suddenly?

BTW, I didnt commit the excluding part.

Thanks,

Folks,
The build has been broken for more than 3 days. Different people have been
introducing build breaks, including compilation errors over the past few
days. This is totally unacceptable. Everybody who committed code over the
past 3 days should build the latest trunk & fix all build errors.

Why we need both RAM and freeRAM validation? Can't we have only freeRAM
validation? (same question apply to Swap as well)

Thanks.

[Carbon-dev] Error while running MB's samples/jmsclient

2012-01-26 Thread Nirmal Fernando
Hi,

While running MB's samples/jmsclient, I got following error [1]. After I
manually add "slf4j-jdk14-1.6.4.jar" and "slf4j-api-1.6.4.jar" to
client-lib, it ran fine.

Should we add these jars?

Thanks.

[Carbon-dev] Tomcat OSGification - progress update

2012-01-26 Thread Pradeep Fernando
Hi all,

You can get a working carbon pack that runs on bundled tomcat (tomcat in
plugins) with web-app deployment functionality by building the source found
at [1].

You will see some exceptions while starting up the pack. Just ignore them
for the moment. They are related HttpTransport manager, jmx registering and
JNDI. Code is still in POC level. we are going to have a arch review soon.

build carbon product (it has web-app mgt feature)
