[cayugabirds-l] Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Campus ducks
I'm surprised I have seen one before now, but there is a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER tapping and flying around in the woods just south of the main entrance at the Lab of Ornithology at Sapsucker Woods. Not too much of note on Dryden Lake this morning, but 4 COMMON LOONS and two HORNED GREBES were there. Yesterday an immature BALD EAGLE was sitting on the ice in the morning. George Road was also pretty quiet this morning (three Horned Grebes remain), but on Beebe Lake I had a flock of ducks land briefly that included 2 male AMERICAN WIGEON, 1 female GREEN-WINGED TEAL, and half a dozen Mallards. Two PIED-BILLED GREBES were still along the south shore. [cayugabirds-l] Black-crowned Night-Heron near Lab of O
Shortly after 9am I was walking in the big field east of the Lab of O and south of NYS-13 the airport. I did not see or hear any Swamp Sparrows or Virginia Rails or Eastern Meadowlarks, only traffic. I did venture under the power lines briefly where I flushed an immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON from the shrubby swamp. It flew north and east, more-or-less toward the Lab, but I couldn't see how far it went. Anyway, keep an eye open for it. --Dave Nutter

Rather, it flew north and west. (Is getting east and west mixed up a form of dyslexia?)--Dave NutterOn Apr 07, 2011, at 11:08 AM, Dave Nutter nutter.d...@me.com wrote:Shortly after 9am I was walking in the big field east of the Lab of O and south of NYS-13 the airport. [cayugabirds-l] Mundy WFG
Hi all, After long time I took lunch walk in Mundy WFG. I did find a cute GOLDEN CROWNED KINGLET, with his middle yellow line on the head flared and shining golden in the over head sun. There was also an Eastern Phoebe. In the Comstock Knoll, I heard a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, a few more Golden Crowned Kinglets and chip notes of a large bird which kept flying into the hemlock and pines may have been a Pine Warbler. I had glimpses of yellow in flight between the branches. There were also two Juncos singing. It is great time get confused with all the trillers. I was also hoping to see the Dairy Bar Chipping Sparrow, but I did not see nor heard him.
