Try readcd dev=xxx f=/dev/null I will do that, and also try writing TAO, SAO, DAO and see what it does. If it fails for the last sectors, the CD has been written in TAO and the driver that does not fail is buggy and you should send a bug report to the maintainer. Was that a finger check, or did you really mean that failing is correct behaviour? And what mode is default for burning data (mkisofs output)? Yes, I will load the latest a24 to the test machine before trying the burns. -- rob bogus -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Right, failing is correct behavior for media written in TAO. Re: burning problems..
From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jun 20 18:58:58 2002 I read the same CD on the same hardware with the same application software (your sdd) and I have changed on the use of IDE-CD or IDE-SCSI. I have changed only one thing and if you change less than that I can't call it a comparison. Using the IDE-CD driver the end of data is found, the file written to disk is correct. Using IDE-SCSI there is an error trying to read one sector beyond end of data, but the file written to disk is identical. Using my own program I not no error in either case, but I'm not trying to do some fancy queueing of reads to issue one before checking the status of the previous. No, I didn't say you were doing that, just that I'm not. But if you use the same media for testing, the ATAPI CD-ROM drivers are broken. Everything is the same but the driver, what media do you think could be more same? sdd if=/dev/scd0 of=ide-scsi.iso bs=100k vs. sdd if=/dev/hdc of=ide-cd.iso bs=100k One of both driver _must_ be buggy. Sorry - it definitely is the other way round! I have been very polite in former days and Linux people have been very rude and arrogant Not that I see that that are either unwilling or unable to cooperate, I name things. Wrong: There are too many bugs in the kernel that do not ocur for the average user and thus never get fixed as long as the default kernel configuration is not using a model that fits ATAPI drives. .. They tell me that they cannot change this because it would break too much but why then did they change the VM system after 2.4 has been released?
