Corp-to-corp. It is a payment method where the contractor has a
corporation that bills the client instead being paid on a W2 or 1099,
both of which are US tax forms.

Are you confident that this is a viable money maker? If so, make sure
you get everything in writing and have an attorney review it for you.
Don't trust the others to do right by you, even if they are friends.

 Cameron,

Some people read these in the forum through their browser, and there, if you

Some also read in digest mode, so it is definitely a requirement to post
your contact e-mail if you want EVERYONE to be able to respond.

each time they do to keep myself from posting a warning to any poor
soul that might fall into their clutches.

I feel like I have an ethical duty to my fellow consultants to at
least post a sign that says here be monsters.

Re: FW: [JOB] Sr. CF Developer, San Francisco, CA | 70-80k

2006-08-22 Thread Maureen
Senior CF programmer here, living in SF. It doesn't really cost me
more to live here than it did in my last location, however, here I
have 400 square foot studio apartment with one tiny window overlooking
an alley, and there I had a 4 bedroom house with 3/4 acre yard.

I haven't encountered an abundance of CF programmers here in SF,
although there are several extremely good ones. They don't work
cheap, however. That rate seems low to me, but I have a hard time
getting motivated to even wake up for an annual salary that doesn't
have 6 numbers to the left of the decimal point. YMMV.

Re: cost of living estimates

Housing in San Francisco is very expensive, but if you don't mind a
commute the outer areas are not so pricey. I don't have a vehicle, I
use public transportation (or taxis when it rains).

No way is the cost of living roughly equivalent to Charlottesville.

Re: Too much experience

2006-02-13 Thread Maureen
There is a lot of truth in way you say, and in my case it is even
harder, because of my age. I get a lot of the overqualified
rhetoric, which is my case translates to you are too old and you cost
too much. Fortuntely I found a contracting firm that looks at what I
can do and not what I cost, and they keep me busy I'd be happy to
hook you up with them if you're interested. You can let me know

Re: A Question For Recruitment Agents

2006-01-21 Thread Maureen
The current contract I am on they are marking me up 120% to the client
on a 1099 contract. I've never seen one markup 300% but it wouldn't
surprise me, especially if the agency is withholding taxes or
providing any kind of beenies.

I know of one guy who wanted to charge the end client nearly 300% of the

Re: software developers vs web-site developers?

Web developers usually only do websites. Software developers are
experienced in creating applications for use beyond the web, or
integrating web sites with other applications.

developers? We are talking about ColdFusion here. ColdFusion is strictly
web-based. Aren't all ColdFusion applications web sites? Aren't all
ColdFusion software developers web-site developers? What are the
requirements you should have in order to call yourself a software developer?
