FYI

I'm working on some presentation materials for a possible meeting next
week on CFC's (a new way of writing functions in CFMX). Hopefully we
can arrange a meeting for early next week at either the UMKC location or
southern Overland Park.

I am also working with the MM Tools group in town to put together a
presentation and demo on Flash Remoting for November. Flash Remoting
allows you to use Flash to create a cross platform front end/rich user
interface that can interact with a backend server like CF (or J2EE,
.Net, etc.) to create dynamic applications that give you the
capabilities of Flash for the interface instead of the typical html and
horrible to debug javascript.

I am also working on a number of book reviews that hopefully I can start
sending out in the next few week.

Ryan

2002-10-23 Thread Jim T. Pickering
Too bad you couldn't go Ryan. I'm not going either. I decided to spend
about $250 (instead of $2k to go to DevCon) and rely on three new books
from Ben Forta (Reality Series: Flash Integration, Intranets and Content
Management, and MX Web App Construction Kit) to learn how to use Flash
Remoting and CFC's. I also bought the new ColdFusion MX book by John
Cummings, called Inside ColdFusion - which is really a great book too.
Together with the Macromedia Web site, I am starting to get the hang of
it. I also built a Video Chat application with the Flash Communications
Server. I video chat with my uncle Dennis in Dallas, Texas. He's a PHP
programmer. Works great!! Maybe next year, on DevCon.

Randy,

Unfortunately, I am not. The costs were pretty high and I have been
working 2 contract jobs the last few months and taking a week off work
and spending $2k didn't seem like the best of ideas since I seriously
doubt I could get funding, increased bill rates, etc. from my clients.

I believe that Bushnell Optics in town is sending 3 people and I think
1-2 others might have posted to the list that they were going to go.
